It was fantastic to catch up with this one... I love hearing some of these guys stuff. from hearing an interview or two of theirs I know they opened for a number of years for Merle Haggard. very tallented guys.
Saw these guys at the Minnesota State Fair last year, they put on a great show. If you close your eyes, it sounds like Merle singing. These guys toured and opened for Merle Haggard.
Hi Don, another good re-up. I heard or read their name but don't believe I had actually heard them before. Really good traditional country music. They are carrying on a long tradition of brother acts in country music. The Delmore Bros., The Louvin Bros., The Osborne Bros., Jim & Jesse, The Statler Bros., And more recently The Avert Bros., and now The Malpass Bros. Thanks for reviving this one Don it was very enjoyable.
They opened for Merle for seven years, between gigs they would go back to their day jobs. They are also hilarious, check them out on Larry's Country Diner. They're amazing.
Well Don you nailed the reaction to this one! It's so great to hear real traditional country done so well - and I don't think another genre can match it for this song. And the steel guitar makes it whole. BTW, the most common pedal steel has 10 strings ... I tried to learn to play it once upon a time, but I never really "got it". So I went back to my trusty old 6 string, yeah I know, "boring" eh
@@mikebarnett9012 I'm nowhere close to mastery, but I sure love playing. I got a little rusty (work took over my life for a while), but I'm getting back into it. Also I just built a guitar kit - didn't even know they existed - an ES335 style. Maybe after a few more years of practice I could sound a little like Chet Atkins! OK, I can still dream ...
@@terrywoodyyc I'm sure you're better than me, W/me about every third chord is a real stinker. I wish I would have either practiced/played a lot more when I was younger, just couldn't find or make the time. Now I have the time and can't play snything, but I sure love listening to folks who can. Cool about the guitar kit sounded fun and gratifying.
I have a suggestion. Country music is turning 100 years old on June 30 of this year. It would be kind of a cool tribute if you reacted to "Sally Gooden" by Eck Robertson, which was the first commercially produced country song recorded on June 30, 1922
Somewhat of a late comment.Just wanted to say the brothers dad plays the bass in the group. You have to see and hear the song just suppose that they do.
Almost cried....Almost, a real tear jerker
The Malpass Brothers are from Eastern NC. Good friends of ours. Clyde Mattocks is the steel guitar. Great guy and musician. He's also from Eastern NC.
The Malpass Brothers just did a concert this past weekend at Lancaster Pennsylvania with Wilson Fairchild and Jimmy Fortune.

Don't undersell yourself, I've never really been able to master the 6-string.

My Lord, where'd these come from? Great stuff.
They were born and raised in Eastern North Carolina and when they are not touring, that's where you will find them.
Hey Don! Please do Keith Whitley between an old memory and me or Merle Haggard the show's almost over.
