  • UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier speaks with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto about getting acclimated to the weather in Abu Dhabi ahead of his title unification bout vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. “The Diamond” says he’s not focusing on the man, but the style of his opponent and that his experience is making him confident ahead of Saturday. (4:40) Poirier describes his long road to UFC gold and the fight where he felt the furthest away from his goal.

In several videos you can see khabib feels no one can beat him. In the promo video of this fight khabib says "no one can beats me", which means none of my next opponent can beat me. There are plenty of men on this planet who can wreck khabib in a fight in or outside this cage, even less strong opponent, (I would start with buakaw banchamek for example)... he was born muslim and has been taught all his life that god have all power over human destiny. So part of his "humility" comes from his religion. when he points his finger to the sky at the start or the end of a fight, it's because he was educated into islam, nothing less nothing more, it does not even comes from him, but from a guy who died 1500 years ago in foreign land far away from his... He 's no god nor semigod. (there is no god, only godliness but that's another subject). Khabib is a top grappler/wrestler/samboman and never met a fighter able to beat him in his ufc division for around 30 fights. Ben askren had 19 consecutive wins and thought he was invicible, he says it himself. Of course he was not as masvidal showed in 2,3 seconds. Mike tyson had 37 consecutive wins before meeting his destiny and lose vs buster douglas. He too, tyson, thought he was invicible and tyson was 100 times more a beast of a fighter than khabib is ...last but not least: anything can happen in a fight, all fighter knows it inluding khabib, but at the end of the day, khabib knows very very well that the biggest threat to his belt is not poirier but ferguson. I'm not saying poirier can not beat him, but I do say that fergsuon has much more elements in his game to beat khabib than dustin have, and khabib knows this very well :-) that's why khabib want to fight tony, lot of respect to khabib for this, khabib truly wants to fight tony cause he knows that tony is different from the others in this division... may the best wins
