Have you ever tried using a holdfast instead of the different surface clamps you showed? Another one you might want to add to your arsenal is a couple of spring clamps. Very fast to use for simple jobs.
I agree a holdfast seems like a good option for a surface clamp. I wonder if it might cause issues/not work well with his bench top though (it looks it might be melamine or some type or particle board vs sold wood). It would be cool to see a comparison between a holdfast and his current surface clamps.
Great selection. I couldn't agree more on the "Quick-Grip" Clamps. I have six that I bought over 20 years ago and they are going strong. For Pipe clamps and bar clamps I have had pretty good luck with the inexpensive ones from Harbor Freight. I use the Pipe clamps for jigs. I made a version of a work-mate out of laminated 2x material. But the cheap Quick-grip style clamps at harbor freight and the tool tables at farm and ranch stores have always broken on me. The only clamps I use that you didn't mention are picture frame corner clamps. They are great for face frames on cabinets to keep things nice and square... but they have fallen out of favor. I don't see them in the stores much any more.
Thanks Bill! That is great input! I actually have 4 corner clamps (Irwin brand). I bought them on Amazon for $16.68 each. There are other brands and sizes on Amazon as well. I use them for exactly the same thing you mentioned, face frames etc. I didn't include them because I will probably do a video on "specialty" items or oddities that may not be essential, however things like the corner clamps are something you wouldn't want to do without.
Thank you Eric 👍 I watch a lot of your videos and I learn a lot. Being from Denmark I struggle to find the right tools and I don't know the english names of them. Now I know the clamp names and I can order them online. Thank you
Thanks Eric. Glad I watched your video completely, as I was just about to ask about the wood screw clamps. Personally, being somewhat of a beginner, I use the pressure clamps most of the time.
Thanks David : ) The screw clamps are a classic design but when I see them they are usually overpriced. I can get a bit more out of the squeeze clamps - that's just been my experience.
#5 looks like the edge guide clamp I picked up at Harbor Freight for around $15 and #10 looks like the one I picked up at HF for $6. If you don't mind the cheap Chinese stuff. Appreciate the review on all these clamps. So many different ones out there and nice to know how they get used.
Instead of the expensive Veritas Clamps, I use Holdfasts and I love them. Here is a link to the ones I have. I added a piece of leather at the end to avoid marking www.toolsforworkingwood.com/store/item/MS-HOLDFAST.XX/Holdfasts_by_Gramercy_Tools
Love the bench vise method! I'm using that. Thanks😎

Grab some of the screw clamps you can pick them up cheap they have a multitude of uses
You need to get some microjig matchfit dovetail clamps. I use them on everything. Extremely versatile

You just sound John Malkovich.
Great video Eric but you forgot to mention that "one can never have enough clamps"!! :)
Thanks Steve! : ) LOL - I didn't want to be seen as an "enabler" of clamp addiction.
You can never have to many clamps
Indeed!
