  • Barn Memories is an oral history project completed by the Appalachian Barn Alliance (appalachianbar...) and sponsored by the Hart Family Fund for Small Towns of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The project involved interviews with long-time residents of Madison County, NC, all reminiscing about their most cherished barn memories. This interview is one of ten collected during this endeavor.
Willa is one of two daughters of Buster and Reva Plemmons and grew up on their Shelton Laurel farm where she lived until her marriage to David Wyatt. Soon after their marriage in 1967, they bought a farm in Mars Hill. After retiring as a public-school administrator, Willa has dedicated her time toward public service, first as the coordinator for the Madison County Schools Backpack Program and most recently as chair of the Friends of the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School rehabilitation effort. Interviewed March 2023.
