It's an unreleased song but it's still gorgeous. You're lucky you live somewhere that's easy to make a song out of.
Something I just realized after really listening to this again is that the chords here were used in Cut the String on No Culture. Just like the lyrics with Alligators Play and Baby Boy. I find these little facts very interesting. It just goes to show that even though one song might not get officially released, that doesn't mean parts of it don't exist in other songs. I wonder if any of the other unreleased songs make cameos in MM songs that we just don't realize
I also just wanted to add that I love the start of Cut the String. Every time I hear the beginning, I mentally prepare myself for all the emotions it makes me feel. Now I can thank Mississippi for giving me one of my fav MM songs (almost all of their songs are my fav though, they're all so good)

That's the thing I like about most when it comes to discovering lost/unreleased songs from Mother Mother. They sound so different, yet so beautiful. Their unreleased songs such as Fat Kids, Play/Insane, and Mamma Told Me are such incredibly good songs, I really wished they were more acknowledged in the MM community

I just watched the interview this song came from a couple days ago and I felt the same way! I absolutely love the chorus for Alligators Play and its so interesting to see how most of that song was turned into what we now know as Baby Boy. I would love it if you did one of these videos for Alligators Play, I appreciate all the effort you put into documenting these hidden gems 💖💖💖

This is where I first heard Mississippi! I'm surprised that you sound surprised cause I just assumed you had seen this same video. Seeing Alligators Play evolving into Baby Boy years later give me hope that maybe one day some of the other hidden songs we love will become fully developed and realized creations. I'm also just hoping that that chorus will pop up again somewhere in the future, maybe even in the next album they're making rn

Im glad that I got to expose another person to these sets of songs. They have such a softness to them and I could ramble on about how much I like them too
I've been listening to this song for months and I can't get it out of my head. It's genuinely one of the most beautiful songs they've ever made. It makes me think about how many people believe life has a purpose or there is a greater reason why we're here. People form religions ("probe the ancient proverbs"), write long existential books ("place a thousand words upon some designated insert"), and ultimately rack their brains trying to figure out their purpose in life ("I could get all up in arms and I could battle with frustration"). It is exhausting trying to find your place in the world. But we are human and we die. The narrator has accepted this and is no longer trying to torturing themselves figuring their purpose. This is why I think a river is such a great metaphor. A river can be deep, shallow, and have strong or weak currents but ultimately it ends up in the ocean. We are the rivers; we are complex humans that vary throughout the span of our lifetime. But ultimately, we die. The narrator asking his loved one, "Would you be a river with me, honey?" is such a powerful but soft sentiment because choosing to believe that we do not have a purpose allows us just to enjoy our existence.
