Route 66 has not been expensive so far, taking out RV parks because I’m doing it in the HOTTEST part of the year! Gas is about 173 gallons Chicago to LA, one-way. 173 x $3 gallon = $520. That is plus food, trinkets and campsites. Not that expensive in $$ actually, Get your kicks, Jan on … :)
What a blast from the past for me! Springfield is my hometown and our grandmother lived next to the souvenir stand on the street leading to the Tomb. She worked in the souvenir stand and was on call whenever a bus full of 5th graders would arrive. Every child in the state was somehow funded to go on the Lincoln Tour in 5th grade. And I truly believe that each of them bought a bullwhip from that store to take home with them. The Tomb is a place for a pilgrimage for many. A lot of parades went past Grandma's house with bands and Boy Scouts, and especially POLITICIANS! I saw JFK, Goldwater, LBJ and Bloomington homeboy, Adlai Stevenson. Thanks for spotlighting artist Bob Waldmire. Looking forward to more of your travels on 66!
Been there on more than one Route 66 trip and love al the Lincoln history, car and van selfies in front of the giant 66 shield in Pontiac, and of course the cozy dogs. Love reliving it all and seeing things anew through your journey. You are doing it right taking your time. You can’t see it all in one trip no matter how long it is, so enjoy the journey.
You are an incredible man, Scott. You always attract people with your personable demeanor, your passion for travel, and attention to detail! And you always get the great interviews too! More power to you, man! Can't wait for future videos and WUW's!!! Be seeing you!
Exceptional video!. I am enjoying the every minute. The pace is perfect. I truly like the cards that has the location and additional information. Kudos, Scott! Safe travels!
Hey there! You are right on the sweet graphic ... yes Audience Angel Artist Mike has been doing some artwork for me. Might even see a GSLL sticker in the near future.
Scott the museum was great and the restaurant and the showing of Route 66. That Route 66 plate looked real awesome and cool on your van. Can’t wait to see more.
This is a fabulous video. Loved every minute. I had the pleasure of driving on Rte 66 briefly. We picked up AZ-66 just west of Williams to Kingman. What a treat. A tumble weed blew across the roadway in front of us. Made my day. Driving from Chicago is definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.
Great video Scott!! Loved the format! Roger and I really enjoyed joining you on this part of your Route 66 adventure! Met great people and made some wonderful memories. If anyone has a chance to join Scott on one of the Route 66 segments we highly recommend that you do so.
ROUTE 66 Baby, that there’s Merica! So cool to be able to drive the old road for a bit. Man there is so much to see on this trip and you’ve just started. Hi Kyle! Cheers!!!
Holy smokes… what a great travel video. Damn. I really enjoyed this. You don’t have to be “van life” person to go on this journey with Scott. I’m late as usual, but thanks for sharing. Awesome journey. Thanks for taking us along.
That IS a Very good museum to visit. The Military section of that museum is fantastic because each of those uniforms actually belonged to a soldier from the area! My old stomping grounds were south in Bloomington, IL, however, I would travel to Pontiac quite often up rte 66 . In the mid-'80s Jamie Lee Curtis made Pontiac "famous', she was there as part of a movie, I think it was called Grandview, she was known to visit the local bars, and had quite a reputation. Glad to hear there is a harvest host and we will visit it again next month as we head back 'home' and also take in Atlanta, IL, as they have a harvest host there as well!
Love 66. Definitely going to drive it end to end someday. I’ve only gone from Flagstaff to Oatman. I know all over Pa they had advertisements on barns like that. Lots of Chew Mailpouch tobacco or Redman tobacco seen off the turnpike and I-70. Just lots of cool stuff to see. Great video 👍🏼 These are the videos I like, the back roads.
I love watching how much you are enjoying this trip! I’m trying to talk my husband into doing this trip, and I think your videos are really going to convince him!!!!!!
So many great stops! Loved all of the pictures. Great to see Kyle getting to join you for part of the trip. The third floor of the Pontiac museum was kind of sureal with all of those manniquans. Wondering if they were stories of those who served from Pontiac or connected to Route 66 in some way? That would be amazing if you could get Buzz (Bob's brother on WUW - oh the stories). Love all the little insets added to the videos explaining what you are stopping to see. Keep them coming!
Yeah, should have explained the mannequins wearing service uniforms were all from that rural county in IL. Was so moving. I could barely keep from crying for what they did for us and others.
Those corn dogs and fries looked tasty! Love the vanity plate! I'm going to be driving part of Route 66 sometime in the next week or so when I bring my new (to me) class B home to Texas! If we are in the same area would love to say hi!
Love these kinds of videos! I like when you use the map and show us where "we" are as you go along. Gotta say though, not a fan of the techno music. Would rather have your narration a little bit more. Thanks for everything!
Showing what you see along your trip is interesting, but I'm more concerned with the nuts & bolts of where you stayed and how you found those places to stay. Was it all Harvest host?
That’s great! I bought a competitor van, a Thor Sequence A20 with pop top about 3 months ago. I haven’t really travelled long distance yet, very similar to your van . In our group forum, 40-50% new van owners, all switched their OEM tires to AT/ all terrain tires, and had a spare tire rack mounted on the rear door. It got me worry about doing the same!
That is my dream trip to take whenever i can afford it. Yep from one end to the other. Love it. Love it.

What a great video, so cool. My Father was a WW2 vet, we should be so thankful for these brave stoic men and women. Thank you.

Thank you for promoting Pontiac, IL. My dad grew up farther south in Arzenville IL. Love those small towns in Illinois!!
Pontiac IL is doing it right and deserves exposure. You got it nailed on the small towns.
Exceptional video!. I am enjoying the every minute. The pace is perfect. I truly like the cards that has the location and additional information. Kudos, Scott! Safe travels!
Very good Eileen. That app, Route 66 Navigation, has been indispensable.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Sweet new Lily graphic. Love it.

Thanks for Sharing. Pontiac rocks. They do NEED a craft brew pub downtown though !
Love 66. Definitely going to drive it end to end someday. I’ve only gone from Flagstaff to Oatman. I know all over Pa they had advertisements on barns like that. Nice video, Scott! Makes us want to do this route.
You should!
Great video. I’ve been on most of Route 66 but not on this leg. I have to plan a trip to visit this beautiful area.

@@gosmall.livelarge Yes! I got lucky, someone was selling an identical van to what I had on order, can't wait to start the adventures 😀
Love these kinds of videos! I like when you use the map and show us where "we" are as you go along. Gotta say though, not a fan of the techno music. Would rather have your narration a little bit more. Thanks for everything!
Fair enough! thanks for watching and commenting
Another great video!
Very Jelly wish I were there
Give Kyle his own key fob 💦
How did you manage to eat so many times over just 100miles?
I'm gaining on Route 66 !
Showing what you see along your trip is interesting, but I'm more concerned with the nuts & bolts of where you stayed and how you found those places to stay. Was it all Harvest host?
Will more of that in…. thx for wathcing
Hi Scott, Greetings. I see you don’t have a spare tire like other vans. Have you encountered that you really need a spare tire?
Hi Eddie. No spare tire. 75,000 miles and haven’t needed one yet!
That’s great! I bought a competitor van, a Thor Sequence A20 with pop top about 3 months ago. I haven’t really travelled long distance yet, very similar to your van .
