Thank you for your watching! Please support my activities by buying my products.🙏 japanesegardentv.com/ I've even simplified the purchasing process! Purchase a total of two items and receive a free cloth towel (Tenugui).
I loved this second video on lanterns. Maybe in the future, you could take us through the process of choosing the stone, hand carving, and the final product. Thank you both.
Thank you Mr. Kitayama for sharing your expertise about stone lanterns. After watching this video, I learned so much about Japanese garden stone lanterns and their purpose!
I love Japanese gardens and the explanation of the lantern types will help me view them in a different light now (pun intended😊). Wish there was a way to buy these in the US.
Love it! Mr Kitayama's knowledge and passion is infectious. Thank You for the additional tutorial. I would certainly watch another in-depth vlog on the subject. Cheers
The older I get and the more I work within my own garden, the more I truly appreciate the skill and love that is put into a handmade object. I hope humanity will continue to place value in artistic masters such as the ones who create these beautiful lanterns. Thank you for making this video, it has enriched my life!
Thank you JapaneseGardenTV and Mr. Kitayama for great explainig on the stone lanterns. Mr. Kitayama does good job in front of camera! Greetings from Poland.
Thank you Matsunaga-san and Kitayama-san for this valuable information! It would take a great deal of research to learn the information found in this video. I did not know about the Yukimi lantern height being preferred at eye level, but it makes sense the way it was explained. If there is a future video, I would like to know about the origins of the figure carved on the sao of the Oribe lantern if Kitayama-san could please explain.
Another good video, but you never asked Mr Kitayama what you put in the window to light up the lantern and how do you stop the wind blowing the light out? Matsunaga how about a video on the aesthetics and lay out of a Japanese garden? これも良いビデオですが、ランタンを照らすために窓に何を入れたのか、風が吹き消すのをどのように止めているのか、北山氏に聞いたことはありませんか?
Who would have thought there was so much to stone lanterns ? Now it makes sense why you c some lanterns in certain places ... Love your videos - keep up the good work !!!
Please accept my thanks to both you and Mr. Kitayama for the valuable lesson about stone lanterns. I am preparing to renovate an American yard into a Japanese garden. Mr Kitayama provided very special information that I will use as I design and build this garden. Thank you for doing these videos. I have learned a great deal.
I have always been fascinated with japnese gardens and koi ponds. At least here in America, i notice Pagodas around the gardens and always wondered what their purpose was because theu always looked like lanterns but i would never see them on or a place to put a fire. Its interesting to hear that they are indeed used as a source of light and with great purpose. Very fascinating
Another wonderful video. You brought us the thought process of another master craftsman. Thank you. I do have one question. Does the master, Mr. Kitayama, have the ability to export his work to the United States?
Thank you! He can ship lanterns as far as the US 😊. He has a experience with that kind of thing. If you are interested, please contact me at my email address. niwayama.plan@gmail.com
Thank you to you and Mr Kitayama! This was very interesting. If you do more videos on this topic, I would love to see some more examples of the lanterns in context, what they look like in various gardens. Learning about the process of how the lanterns are crafted would also be interesting.
Another great video with excellent information whilst being beautiful too! I would definitely like to learn more deeply and could watch at least an hour of pure information and probably more!!
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed learning some basics of stone lanterns. I cannot thank you enough for the two of you to walk me through purpose and beauty. More videos would be so appreciated. Everything that was discussed answered questions I quietly wondered about. And, absolutely I agree….make it by hand the way it is supposed to be to enhance the texture and creativity. Thank you 🤗. Peace 💫
Thank you so much Mr Kitayama. I now know a little about the history of Japanese lanterns. I think they are all beautiful. I look forward to the next video on this subject.
This was such an interesting video; I learned a lot about stone lanterns, and I would like to learn more! It would be great if you could make another video, maybe with Saida San showing how they are made! I wonder if Saida San has made any of the lanterns at this place. Is this Ishi-ya near Ryoanji? This place has such a great atmosphere, except for the cars driving by on the busy street 😆 Did he call the stone craftsmen "Ishi daiku"? Thank you for such an informative video!
This is a wonderful video. These videos are so helpful and interesting. I don't speak Japanese but I learn better English reading your translations. All the best to you and Kitayama-san.
Thanks for these information and charing the wisdom of stone lantern. I dont why but stone Lanterns let me feel inside my mind and connected to the nature and japan as well. ⛩
As much as I like the garden videos, these information videos are more important please make more like this. Also would you consider making a video on the mosses used in gardens?
So, I will plan to put a small, low lantern next to the two steps leading down from our patio area into the garden. I learn something useful from every one of your videos! Thank you.
I do love it. I think the hole Japan should be proud of you. your work, your cinema is truly rich of pure information. God bless you all. God bless Japan.
Yes thank you for this follow up video - I have learnt a bit more to think over and very interesting to know that I need to elevate my Yukimi lantern to eye level.... thank you Mr. Kitayama for your time again.... look forward to knowing more in-depth information you are wanting to share... Japanese stone lanterns definitely give a romantic feel to the garden. Pip from New Zealand 🌸
Very interesting and educational. The passion for the respect for master craftsmanship and subject is clear, as is the tradition, purpose and beauty of these peaceful and enduring objects in such carefully constructed temples, gardens and other sites. Bravo.
Thank you. This information is valuable to me as adding a lantern to my garden is my next project. I learn so much as I watch the gardens you film evolve. I enjoy your content.
Loved and shared. Thank you both. Yes please do more on stone lanterns' especially the ones with the un-even tops. They are so interesting.... speaking of hand carved. Mahalo again to you both!
wow! Great to see the many types of lanterns you only find in Japan. Is there a way to contact them in English and order any small lanterns? Would they do a video chat so you can pick one out? Do they ship abroad? Like to the UK or USA?
Thank you for this interesting video. I appreciated the explanation of context regarding how the various lanterns are used and where they can be used. Like other commenters, I am interested as to how to light these lanterns. Whether you can adapt them to electric or perhaps solar powered sources. I truly appreciated the information on the snow lanterns. I inherited a small one and, given that I live in a snowy climate, I now have a better idea how to make use of it in a garden design.
Glad I could be of help to you 😊. You know, in modern times, most lanterns are illuminated by electricity, but I'd love to shoot for something called how to illuminate them with oil lamps, too! ruclips.net/video/clAoB34Rc-M/видео.html
thank you very much again! it was incredibly interesting video. but too short. i still have many questions:) for example: could you tell more of the details about other types of lanterns. like you did about snow lantern. how to choose a place for it, at what height to put it, what are different parts called and what purpose do they have, what should their size be? also, maybe you could make one or few videos about making lanterns? and one more: what are the pricing? there are so many different lanterns! so, it would be great to know how much some of them can cost? how is the price formed? why one is more expensive than other? (i'm sure it's not only about the size) so many questions:)
Thanks for all the different questions 😊 It would be interesting to talk about the characteristics of each lantern next time. I'll keep making interesting videos!
Great video, thank you. What kind of lamp do you recommend, using today's technology? And maybe a video of Kitayama san carving a stone lantern could be filmed.
Today, of course, we use electric lamps, but someday I would like to make a video of the oil lamps being filled 😊 ruclips.net/video/clAoB34Rc-M/видео.html

Take a look at some bonsai nurseries near you, they should have something in stock or be able to point you in the right direction. :)
And Australia ...
Really good video. I would like to see how lanterns are lit and how effective the light is in a garden environment. Thank you.
Yes, it is!
