- The Mercedes GLA is a rival to the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 - and along with those cars it shows just how far compact premium SUVs have come in recent years. Rebecca Jackson tries the 2020 GLA 220d to see how it fares.

I like the way the presenter is dressed as inspector gadget
😂
I rather like the presenter. The end. 😂
Lol true
Must say, i always look for Rebecca and CarGurs for reviews, well edited and such a lovely presenter.
We bought one a few Months ago just love it, the dash is top class, the diesel version does 48 miles to the gallon that's very good really. Hey Mercedes love you to bits
What does it do around town? mpg
@@patrickbarks997 It does about 45 Miles to the gallon around town
@@jamboreeband Thanks for replying. I'm impressed by that figure, it's really good.
how has it been so far?
29000 km no trouble at all
thanks for your car review rebecca your no 1 test driver i always watch you very good channel
i don't get why most of the reviews of the GLA are on an AMG trim and all say about the ride that is not so great on 20 inch wheels. Why would you go AMG on an SUV?
What a lovely lass Rebecca is and I like the simply explained reviews she does. Just ordered an amg line 200 hope to get it early next week, it's lost a few bits of specification which weren't deal breakers for us but maybe for you. Mercedes didn't offer a penny off the list price either so bear this in mind if you plan to buy one anytime soon.
I have had one of these for 3 weeks while my Ateca is in the body shop. The handling is not sporty in AMG trim . Plus the 2.0 mild hybrid struggles get the mpg around town that my 7speed Ateca petrol does. On long trips 8 speed helps but still less mpg than a Tiguan 4 motion bi turbo I ran before the Ateca. I dislike stalk gear selector and find the head unit and digital dash less intuitive than VAG system. The way the screensize shrinks when attached via Android Auto is disappointing too. Obviously I'm not a MB fan. If you are, I'm sure you might be happy.
Just got the Executive Sport GLA 200. Its fab & far too good for a peasant like me, but I'm going to enjoy it.
Me too, it arrived yesterday
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. A great 👍 looking Compact SUV
It has raised suspension that's been lowered. Great.
I'd be interested in knowing the British motoring press' definition of a premium manufacturer. For example, VW sometimes gets mentioned, probably just as often as Lexus, but not DS?
always nice to see and hear the excellent reviews by Rebecca. the A class is a cousin of the hyundai i30 , as a result of a financial relationship going back to when Daimler owned Chrysler, and by extension a third of Mitsubishi and a tenth of Hyundai. They sold Chrysler and Mitsubishi, but the Hyundai tie- in still exists. Hyundai opened up a facility in Germany near Mercedes, and they avoid competing head-on in mostly all market segments.
p.s. the tie in , part ownership, resulted from hyundai building engines from mitsu designs, and chrysler doing emissions and safety engineering so mitsu could sell cars in the usa. this goes back to the 70s and 80s..
It would be useful to go over all the engines availavle and in detail as well.
Being five foot four and a half, Rebecca has no fear of her scalp brushing the ceiling
Rebecca Jackson’s always does great
She's got style. Always had. Can't argue with that. 👍
I don't think I've ever seen this poor girl without an umbrella.
Most people that buy these, buy them for the boot size.........you can get the collapsible wheel chair in it
Is it really an SUV just because Mercedes says it is? Let's be honest its just a raised hatchback
Raised, then lowered and stiffened with massive wheels with little sidewall, no less. No German sport-line rides properly in uk, so you would have to have a serious mental disability to buy one...... that's why we see them in disabled bays. Makes sense.
Why not demand more humble versions for the vast majority of us.
HOLD UP. MANUAL seats on a Benz?!
Why do manufacturers put squared off wheels arches on cars?....just looks weird. Get some square wheels on it, would look much better ;-)
Am I the only one who dislikes the new Mercedes iPad like screens that appear as if they are glued to the dashboard.....
Yes
They don’t have 10 SUVs do they?
Yes, gla GLB, glc, glc coupe, gle, gle coupe, gls, gls coupe, g glass, x class
@@qasimabbas615 there is no gls coupe and x class isn’t an suv, besides it’s discontinued
@@colm112 good point
Lovely Jubbly video, but I just don't get the SUV thing, unless it's a R Rover or something similar.
"It's intuitive, once you get used to it" 🤣😂🤣
With raised suspension that's been lowered.
Nice B class...
Just another pumped-up hatchback, sadly everyone is now doing it and shouting "SUV". They are not.
CUV more like.
With GLB being so practical and so good looking, there really is no reason for this to exist. I it is too similar looking to an A class
It's an A-class for older people. The A is quite low.
A lot of people just want more visibility on the road.
why review the version the least number of people will buy?
Pretty sure the manufacturers supply the car they want to show off the most, and the journalists have little choice.
Thumbs up Car Gurus if you appreciate your subscribers..
I had pretty high expectations with this car. Mat Watson said that you can hardly feel the bumps at all. But when I test drove it, I was quite disappointed. It was bumpy, loud road noise, and rattling sounds in the back. The A-Class I test drove was much better.
Call me mad, but I prefer the old one, despite итс odd looking front it was more muscular.
Rebecca however is feminine as ever :)
Where's the storage check ✔✅...
So no banana 🍌😖🤔😝
This is the worst car I have ever driven. Owned it for 3 months and sold it. Honestly, I was so disappointed - exactly as she describes, the driving experience is not smooth
I'll take a Q3 thanks!
Chris don't I bought a brand new Q3 and it was an absolute nightmare gearbox problem after problem, and Audi customer services are next to useless, I couldn't get rid of the damn thing quick enough.
@@marklightfoot9113 oh wow, that's not good. So did you get rid of it then? What did you get instead?
Chris I part exchanged my ford Kuga in for it, I then part exchange the Q3 in against a new Kuga, couldn't be more pleased, I can say without doubt I wouldn't ever touch another Audi again. I do like the look of these Mercedes though but again after reading reviews I'm not so sure I'd have one if these either 🤔
@@marklightfoot9113 oh go back around haha!! Does look pretty smart that new Kuga! Enjoy your Kuga!!
@@marklightfoot9113 Was looking at a new Q3- curious if this was the manual/auto you had problems with?
Man-made leather seats! I think you'll find they're effectively vinyl seats, which were popular in the 1970's, which you're stupidly paying loads of cash for & Mercedes laugh all the way to the bank as idiots have the perception these things are premium!
You can't really compare it with the vinyl from the 70s. It really feels leather and not like what we had in the past. My previous car had real leather and my new one man-made leather and it feels the same. Not the sticky stuff we had years ago. And you don't have to kill animals.
In the 1970s Mercedes called their vinyl seats MB Tex but in more recent times, it is called Artico (abb for artificial cow!) but if not described properly in the description, it could be seen as false advertising.
So without stupid 19inch wheels and hard suspension this car could be comfortable?? Naaah I don't want that?! I want to hop from bum to bum with loads of tyre noise...great..
Only idiots would put such wheels on 2.0 diesel
do some collab with Mat Watson for old time's sake
Overpriced and underwhelming.... 5 years down the road it will start to fall apart..
Z
Looks like a big old blob of Motability scheme dullness
Underwhelming.
Audi Q3 is more appealing
Isn’t it boring and normal from outside ? BMW cars are more classy than nowadays Mercedes.
