Funny thing about Show-Ya, is that they still rocks on stages. Keiko is even more savage now on stages. A true storm with about 60 years... and still hot as fire. They were one of the first all-female bands in Japan and "show the way" to a lot of other girls to follow their passions in music. Still today they produce every year a festival for rock and metal. Only conditions, the bands must be all-female.
Great band formed in the early 1980s. Their annual event NAON no YAON have been hugely imoprtant for todays giant wave of female japanese metalbands and musicians.
Show-Ya would be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame if they were a Western band, based solely on music catalogue alone, gender withstanding. Their contribution to rock/metal music in Japan is just as important anything Led Zeppelin or Metallica has done in the West. The you take into account what their Naon no Yaon Festival has done to promoting and encouraging girls in musical performance, going back 30 years, and its a no brainer. Mayu has said losing an audition to be cute girl opening act for Naon, while she was in the band Lipstick, was part inspiration for the lyrics to "Life". She also studied Keiko Terada's as a role model for being a rock and roll front woman. Saki has also spoken to how much of an influence Miki "Sun-Go" Igarashi has been to her, and if you watch some of Show-Ya's older videos you can see a young Sun-Go's stage presence in Saki. Then that tone! Sun-Go's guitar tone is so huge, and I don't mean in sound, as in 'loud'. I mean its huge like its taking up the whole stage, and its been like that for 30 years. A lot of these great Japanese musicians we are all getting to know out a lot to Show-Ya for paving the way.
“I Am a Stormy Woman”_WATASHI ha ARASHI_(1989)SHOW-YA Lyrics: Yoshihiko Ando, music: Keiko Terada, arrangement: Masanori Sasaji and SHOW-YA Released June 7, 1989: 9th single (English translation of rough lyrics meaning) As if I was swept away by the wind That blew like an endless stream I chased the lightning that shone so brightly The stormy sky we both saw that day Nothing has changed. Now it's a dead age where dreams can't be born That's just a man's line What changed your mind that you were so strong? I hope you'll never betray yourself I'm a strong woman like a storm I'll blow away the false peace I'm burning like a flame Once more I'll set our world ablaze Blowin'you Women wear glass masks We can hide our true faces from the world And yet, somewhere inside, A man always has a rusty dream that he can't get rid of For the sake of love, even if it hurts I fear nothing now I want to go back to that night in the middle of a distant storm The lightning that ran through us both I am the woman of miracles I open this night that has been closed up And let it go I give birth to the future We can feel each other forever You can get! The lightning that calls tomorrow Woo Woo Now it's ripping through the sky I'm a strong woman like a storm I'll blow away the false peace I'm burning like a flame I want to burn once more The fire of our life Blowin'you SHOW-YA is a Japanese Hard Rock Heavy Metal band with five female members. The band is a pioneer of Japanese girls metal bands composed entirely of women in the 1980s. The predecessor of the band was the band "Medusa" with vocalist Keiko Terada and keyboardist Miki Nakamura, which later changed its name to "SHOW-YA". In 1982, the band won the grand prize in the ladies' division of a band contest sponsored by YAMAHA. In 1985, they made their major label debut with Toshiba EMI Japan. Two songs from their seventh album "Outerlimits" released in 1989, their 8th single "Marginal Lovers" and 9th single " I Am a Stormy Woman " became consecutive hits, and the album sold over 600,000 copies, making them the most popular girl metal band in Japan at that time. The band went through member changes, breakups, and reunions, and is one of those rare bands where the original members are still active with a career spanning over 35 years. It is truly regrettable that SHOW-YA did not have the chance to sign a contract with a Western record company to release their works(CDs, DVD) in the global market during their young heyday. The Japanese popular music scene of various genres had a history of more than 60 years, almost the same as that of the West. However, from the 1970s to the present, Japanese musicians, no matter how talented, have not been given the opportunity to sign contracts that would take them to the world market, but only release contracts limited to the domestic Japanese market. many musical talents who shone in the 1980s had limited financial success and no recognition in the world. Show-ya are... Keiko Terada - vocals, Miki (captain)Nakamura - keyboards, chorus, Miki (mittan) Tsunoda - drums, chorus, Satomi Senba - bass, chorus, Miki (sun-go_third) Igarashi - Guitar, Chorus,
Miki “Sun-Go” is considered possibly the first female shredder in Japan. Saki of Nemophila is close friends with her and caused some confusion some years back with a tweet on Mother’s Day calling her mother. They are not related just feel close enough to call each other mother and daughter.
Before Babymetal, Band-Maid, Scandal,. Lovebites, Nemophila, there was Show-Ya. They started about the same time as Shonen Knife, and like the Knife paved the way for female bands in rock, not just Japan.
“Watashi wa Arashi” means “I Am The Storm”! KEIKO is a Japanese National Treasure. (The rose tattoo is fake.) Look for concert footage from the late 80s. They all are still performing with the original lineup. You can see them performing with GACHARIC SPIN and NEMOPHILA in video from NAON のYAON.
Cool - I was going to mention that, they (SHOW-YA) just dropped two new videos from the 2021 NAON のYAON of just that: plus some others all performing together. It's pretty awesome. 🏳⚧💜🤘♀⚧♀🏳🌈🦘
Thanks for checking them out. There is a much better, live version of this (see links below). The godmother of metal bands, Show-Ya were founded in 1981 (before Metallica). They locked in their lineup in 1982 and are still touring with that lineup (there were a few years in the mid 90's with a different lead singer). They have been sponsoring an annual rock festival (NAONのYAON) just for Japanese female rock musicians, and mentored many of the bands you are seeing now. They modeled themselves after Deep Purple, whose tours in the early ‘70’s had a big impact on Japanese rock. Show-Ya’s early work was mostly covers of bands like Purple, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, etc. Then they began releasing and performing their own stuff, and never looked back. It is also a daring song for the times-she is essentially daring a man to have the courage to be involved romantically with her. As you watch these women rock, keep in mind that they are all in their mid-40s. I consider them one of the most underrated rock bands ever. The fact that they were not bigger in the U.S. is an indictment of the U.S. music establishment, which repeatedly turned down opportunities to promote them here. A guitarist with a star is not a guy😊, but Lady. SHOW-YA is an all female band and already in the 80s of the last century they played heavy metal. This song is from the album "Outerlimits" (1989). The Music Video is also from 1989. In 2021, SHOW-YA released a new Album "Showdown". If you watch the Music Video "Tokyo, I Scream" (2021) from this album, you will see that Keiko Terada (lead vocals, she is 59 years old) has this rose on his chest which is on this MV.
As J O A stated, Show-Ya, and especially lead singer Keiko Terada, have been very important in encouraging and supporting the Japanese female rock/metal explosion that started about 15 years ago with the formation of the all-female bands Destrose and Aldious. If you are interested in seeing how Keiko Terada looks today and see another live Nemophila performance, you should watch the song Oiran at the 2021 Naon no Yaon festival. ruclips.net/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/видео.html
1989. They were the best all-female rock band back then, no contest. Of course this is an MV but if you wanna check them live (no surprise for a japanese band - they were even better live!) there's many concerts on YT (including on my channel). I have all their records, they started in the early eighties but by 1989 they were superstars in Japan and their album OUTERLIMITS is a classic. They are still playing, with the same line-up! And they did A LOT - and are still doing - to support the young generations of female rockers, including creating a festival, NAON@YAON, where nearly every female rocker in Japan has played.
When these ladies got together, Japanese record labels were initially not willing to give them a chance. Girls "weren't supposed" to do rock music, they were supposed to be cute and submissive. But when one label gave them a chance, they wound up becoming one of the most successful rock/metal bands in Japan. They didn't open the door for the all girl metal bands you see in Japan today, they kicked it down.
The guy with the tattoo? They are all female here. And yes, the girl that sings is now 60 and still active .... and good! Actually ... the whole band is intact. They had some years break though.
HAVE YOU DONE WAGGAKI BAND YET? TRADITIONAL JAPANESE INSTRAMENTS WITH WESTERN INSTRAMENTS. METAL/ROCK WITH TRADITIONAL SINGING STYLE. EXTREMELY POPULAR IN JAPAN. VERY INTERESTING AND THE ENTIRE BAND IS VERY TALENTED.
Funny thing about Show-Ya, is that they still rocks on stages.

Lyrics: Yoshihiko Ando, music: Keiko Terada, arrangement: Masanori Sasaji and SHOW-YA

As if I was swept away by the wind
That blew like an endless stream
I chased the lightning that shone so brightly
The stormy sky we both saw that day
Nothing has changed.
Now it's a dead age where dreams can't be born
That's just a man's line
What changed your mind that you were so strong?
I hope you'll never betray yourself
I'm a strong woman like a storm
I'll blow away the false peace
I'm burning like a flame
Once more I'll set our world ablaze
Blowin'you
Women wear glass masks
We can hide our true faces from the world
And yet, somewhere inside,
A man always has a rusty dream that he can't get rid of
For the sake of love,
even if it hurts
I fear nothing now
I want to go back to that night
in the middle of a distant storm
The lightning that ran through us both
I am the woman of miracles
I open this night that has been closed up
And let it go
I give birth to the future
We can feel each other forever
You can get!
The lightning that calls tomorrow
Woo Woo
Now it's ripping through the sky
I'm a strong woman like a storm
I'll blow away the false peace
I'm burning like a flame
I want to burn once more
The fire of our life
Blowin'you

Sun Go one of my favorite Japanese guitarists. She always made her sound bigger than it was.
You can also see Mayu copying Keiko Terada with her stage moves
She has so much emotion in her vocals.

Show Ya and Girlschool on the same bill fer us even older rocker types who love all female bands.
Godmothers of female rock band
Also try their "Eye to Eye". You'll see how they are after near 35 years!!
Guy? 😂 They're all women. And yes Keiko Terada's tattoo is real.
Yeah that was a WTF moment for me too.
Good choice !
SHOW-YA is great band !
But she is No.2.
No.1 is "MARI HAMADA".
This is her best song.
"BLUE REVOLUTION"
The guy with the tattoo? They are all female here.
