Why should Lesley have gone right back to the man who hurt her so badly. Lesley deserved to enjoy Monica's (and Rick's) moment of comeuppance. Alan was brilliant to expose the truth as he did. General Hospital to me was the greatest a soap could be in 1979 and 1980 -- you couldn't get a better quality soap. Every storyline was great. I loved Jeff and Anne's storyline, but I was just as interested and invested in Scotty and Luke and Laura and Monica and Alan and Rick and Leslie. Now this scene with Leslie and Monica where Leslie slaps Monica was CLASSIC. Man I don't care if she was the other woman or trampy, but I love me some Dr Monica Quartermaine. That confrontation between her and Leslie, and Alan telling the party AJ was his son was EVERYTHING. It's a shame soaps lack this type of writing nowadays.
And that Rick is exactly what you deserve for thinking of only yourself. Lesley had so much class and you did not deserve her. Even though she loves you with her whole soul you should have worshipped her when she allowed you back into her heart.
Well said. I've always liked Lesley and remember when she was on the "front burner" as they say. She comes across with so much warmth and class. She's a wonderful actress!
Gotta love Alan! He threw Monica right under the bus, letting Rick, Lesley and everyone else know that she in fact did know the truth about Alan Jr’s., paternity but did not want to disclose it. LOL!
Oh god i forgot how much i loved old skool Q's Alan relishing sticking it to Monica in public and knocking the air out of Rics selfish sail at the same time. Les was such a class act still caring about Ric despite his tendency to be a complete arsehat.
You know what, RLL? I was so excited to be able to see all these scenes -- the hunt for them and all...that it has taken me this long to really and truly think that Rick does not deserve Lesley. It is true, though, that sometimes one loves a person who doesn't deserve it.
OMG Sussezq how right on you are. Thank you so much for these wonderful truths that is what makes you, you your EPIC greatness! .... and yet you are so damn right sometimes in life sometimes one dose love a person who doesn’t deserve it ? But in real reality get’s that love from that certain person . If truth be told that person deserve a whole lot more then they are getting now! .... Sorry I know some of you fans may not think what Laura May deserve’s But I have to say in all honesty Laura deserved a whole lot more! JMVHO. Thanks. Rosie.
I must have missed something, because after Alan revealed that AJ was really his and not Ricks', Rick wanted nothing to do with Monica. Rick threw Monica off to the side out on the Patio after the revelation and before her confrontation with Lesley. If you remember the fallout from the revelation, RIck forced Monica to tell him when she knew the truth in his office and after that, wanted nothing to do with her. So, Les was actually right.
Oh Lesley, just when I think I couldn't love you more, you go and say that last part to Moni. Understanding what she did...and still worried about Rick's well-being. Somebody give that woman a medal! ISIS (aka me) would NOT have been that kind. No ma'am.
I know Lesley loved Ric and was glad to have him back, but I think he needs a good slap-a-roo too, for treating Lesley like he did. It takes two to tango, and Ric was just as guilty as Monica.
You know, the funny thing is, Monica didn't realize that Rick was aware that she used her ability to carry a child as advantage over Lesley and to keep him. Rick said it after the revelation, when Monica went to his loft asking for his help, when Alan challenged her for custody of Alan Jr. He then threw her out!
YES! That’s why so many people couldn’t understand why Monica gave Carly such a hard time back then! Like, uh, didn’t you do the same thing, Monica?! Have some understanding! 😂
Every soap back in the day had an evil villainess you loved to hate. ATWT had Lisa ,OLTL had Dorian and GH had Monica. I loved Leslie ❤️ As the years went on definable ,clear cut bad and good characters disappeared
The writers/actors/producers/directors should see this clip. This is what DAYTIME does BEST! This new triangle involving Dr. Patrick Drake/Sabrina/Britt is nothing compared to Rick/Leslie/Monica. What was the last good triangle with substance?
The scene between Lesley and Monica is gold! IN it we see Monica stripped down to what she is really about where Rick is concerned. We see the orphan talking here. The desperation to hold on to what she feels is hers comes from a history of not really having anyone. Aside from Gail (who didn't "officially" adopt her but acted as her parent when she was a teen), the Webbers (Rick, Jeff, and Terri) were her family! It's sad really. Now she married Alan, lightweight on the rebound, but also she did love him when she married him. It is inexcusable how she has in a sense used both men though, and this embarrassment was destined to happen. I feel bad for all four of them. Lesley was the most innocent of them all and did not deserve the heartache she has endured. BUT, whhile she is MOST innocent, I will say this...her marriage to Rick was rocky from the jump and not just because of Monica...but Lesley always putting Laura and Laura's issues first before her marriage was also a part of the issue. Rick should have been man enough to handle it and deal with it though. He is in no way a saint and so what's happened here, while I feel bad for him, I am lightweight like, "Yeah! That's what you get, dummy." And the things is, it is clear that while Rick had love for Monica he was not IN love with her. He was clearly IN love with Lesley. Lesley is his match. They vibe in ways that he and Monica would never vibe. And Lesley can put up with things that Rick will do that Monica would NEVER put up with. And Alan,,,he's not a saint at all...but not a bad boy either. He was CRAZY in love with Monica. She is his boo, his bae, his forever love. He will put up with things she does because of this. A strange love at times, but they are indeed a matched set. The thing is, it will take a while for Monica to finally get it, but she too will realize Alan is HER it thing as well. LOVE this storyline. So much great stuff has come out of it.
Adding to GHRickLesley's response, Les asked Rick to move out when she discovered the true paternity of baby AJ. She tabled divorce while still in self preservation mode. Rick didn't want it. After moving out, he had an identity crisis meltdown and eventually weakened to the idea of having a son, with Monica as part of the pkg. i.e. making an honest woman of his son's mother! Pure selfishness on his part. By the time Les realized she still loved him, he had already gone over to the other side.
I'll say it again,,,,, This scene was the only time when I WISHED a guy would slug a woman. But no worries Rick! Your EX will fight your battles for you! Awesome to finally hear it all in English to tell the full story that we could only see through expression before now. Still think they directors should have had Les push the witch into the pool as a scene finale!!!!! That would have been the only thing that would have made it better!!! Rock on Cath & Jenvideo!! We are blessed! :)
I agree here When I first watched it I wanted them together so badly but as an adult not so sure Lesley really knew Rick in this clip Les tells Monica you don't know the man he is not coming back because he is vulnerable and he cares etc.. she always knew Rick Monica always cared about Monica-When Rick kicked Monica out of his office is another scene I love and when he called her a baby maker is another
DonnaMazzella Lesley did indeed know Rick. When the quarantine was lifted and Rick came home and told Les that he wanted to sleep with Monica; Les told him that she wished he did sleep with her to get it t out of his system. You notice after Rick slept with Monica the day of Laura’s accident, he and Les got back together Rick didn’t look back while every other minute Monica was thinking back to that night. Meanwhile Rick was happy and living his life with Les.
Juanita, I see a recent comment here or yours. This site fills in so many questions for me. I've only had L/L videos for Suzy's. Now I know so much more, this is WONDERFUL. Rick and Amy did know and Alan is a nice guy to tell Lesley about Laura's call.
sharon oksen I was introduced to Rick and Lesley through the actors of DA and MG and then i stopped watching GH. Connecting to the sites that these wonderful ladies have created introduced me to CR and the rest of the Rick and Lesleys story.
@netguy02 I totally agree. I cheered when that slap originally happened! The part that makes this all so unbelievable is that no man stays friends with both an ex-lover, but also someone who blackmailed his wife, AND helped cause her miscarriage.
Rick - What kind of man are you who leaves his wife for another woman and a baby! Rick got exactly what he deserved!!! SWEET JUSTICE!!!!! Lesley should've slapped Rick TOO -------for not putting HER, HIS WIFE FIRST, along with the marriage. FINALLY, Lesley gets to be human!!!
He may of had left Lesley but he didnt deserve for what Monica did to him because she knew the whole time that baby belong to Alan but because she decided that Rick belonged to her she decided to destroy Rick's marriage which yes he destroyed it too on himself. Monica never liked or cared to respect Lesley in fact she never intended to keep a friendship of any kind with Lesley
@@loislane4421 look I think what I said needs to be read carefully again I never said I disagreed with the fact that Rick would deserve anything that came to him from the time that he walked out and just left Lesley the way he did. I simply said and ill say it once more because I think it was cruel and wrong and Monica did go way too far, Rick did not deserve for Monica( for the snake she always was) to use that child against him by trying to trap him knowing full on well that child was truly Alan Quartermaine's son sure had her cruel Secret stayed hidden perhaps she would've succeeded in it all but that still wont change that she used that child to hurt other people most especially Lesley in the case that Monica knew Lesley was never able to give Rick or anyone else a child because of past trauma. Monica new that so to stick it where it would hurt most Monica pretended to want to be to being friends only to burn and show her true intentions later burning Rick in the process. In any other circumstance I wouldnt be defending Rick at all but in this instance involving Monica I will because no one deserves to have a child ripped from them rather if its by murder or any other way to include with what Monica did
@@Meadow214 Rick badgered Lesley to take him back and when she couldn't easily forgive and move on, he dumped her and repeatedly reminded her that his first consideration was his son. Rick knew the kind of woman moni was, he just turned a blinds eye and it bit him hard.
Yes you are correct. It was when Les was pregnant w/ Camerons' baby, he had died and she was dating Rick. Monica went to Lesleys' home to threaten her to end it with Rick & Les then followed her and lost her footing on the stairs and fell. While Monica didn't push her, if she hadn't of gone to there w/ her rotten intentions in the first place, Les probably wouldn't have had the miscarriage! G'rrrr!
The slap may have hurt, but Monica began to slowly wake up and over the years, she has suffered for her sins being the last of the family, losing both Lila and Edward, later Lee and Gail, the only parental figures she had, other family members (some several times each) and thanks to Leslie Charleson's layered acting, Monica has become a better woman. Perhaps at their reunion last year, Monica should have thanked Lesley for the slap for that reason alone. By 1983, Monica was maturing greatly, very protective of her family, and slowly came to love Alan's illegitimate son, Jason, as her own. I love stories of atonement and watching Monica grow from the vixen of this era to the respected matriarch of not only her family but the hospital is an example of how people in life, not just on soaps, can change. Lesley did forgive her (never forgets though!), and you can tell that they did come to like each other when they shared scenes. It is also obvious that they got along very well as actors, and Leslie is still close with Stuart Damon. Leslie Charleson is like Marj Dusay, the anti-diva diva, more comfortable with her horses and charities than with creating conflicts on sets or acting like a spoiled "b". After all, she was "the ultribrite girl". "GH" outtakes has her always having fun when she screws up or someone else has a blooper.
Monica, unable to let go of the love-illusion Rick represented, hurt Jeff, Lesley, Alan, her sons, and even Rick. At first, Alan responded poorly to her lies and rejection. But, Monica was broken in her early life, so learning to trust her own ability for love and emotion was difficult. Deep down, Alan was full of love, which she needed. At his death, Monica finally realized that she had her soul mate right beside her all along in Alan. It took her way to long, but she did learn to love.
I TOTALLY AGREE .GAIL HUSBAND WAS PART OF THAT. GAIL THOUGHT MONICA WAS SLEEPING WITH HER HUSBAND ALL THOSE YEAR'S.GAIL HUSBAND FORCE HIM SELF ON HER AND THREAD HER.
Young Monica reminds me of Scarlet O'Hara. Ruthless and desperate for love and security. Thinking the "good" Ashley Wilkes was the cure. Ashley was tempted - but truly loved his loyal and understanding wife (Rick/Lesley). But, true passion lay with handsome, fiery, passionate and rich Rhett Butler. He saw true woman - WARTS and all. He loved her anyway (Alan/Monica). If Monica had gotten Rick, she would have been like Scarlet - disappointed and begging and scheming to return to Alan.
Exactly. Had Rick and Monica stayed together it would not have lasted long. He would've bored her and Alan and Monica would've ended up having an affair anyways and back together because they had the real chemistry. There is something to be said about being with someone equally yoked. Alan was always Monica's match. Rick was someone from her past that should've just stayed IN her past. She settled for Jeff because he was in the same family. She felt security with the Webber family as a whole. But they were never meant to be FOR her in the long run. From the jump when we first saw her with Jeff, we saw that Monica, her spirit and all, was too much for the Webbers in general. This ending was bound to happen. It was a painful process for all parties (and viewers). We viewers knew all along that Rick belong with Lesley, and Monica belonged with Alan. And watching the pain that Lesley especially went through was gut wrenching. That woman was a saint. I could not have been the one. Rick could have kicked rocks with jagged edges.
Back again. I just needed to see this slap before I went off to work, and YT kept suggesting it, so I watched it. I had a chance to go to a GH thing where Genie Francis was there, and I asked her about slaps (I called it a soap opera slap, which puzzled Genie Francis, and Finola Hughes said bitch slap. I didn't want to curse, so thank you to Finola Hughes on that one). She said that some people take the slap, some people stunt the slap, ad sometimes the connection on the slap is accidental in the stunting. The actors usually collaborate and figure it out. There are some good slaps, but this one is my all-time favorite.
What really stinks is that without OLD video, the fact that MONICA is the one that caused Lesley to not be able to have any more children! Yet it is Monica's ability to have children (specifically his!) that causes Rick to leave Lesley. It was just so wrong. I gotta say -- this is one thing the "old" Rick would never have done!
yocathyberger you are so right. The character of Rick played by MG knew how to handle Monica. He would have never engaged in the foolishness that they had CR character do.MG’s Rick even told Lesley that what he had with Monica was not love. He told Lesley that she was his true ❤️.
I remember watching this scene when I was 10 years old. I can still here my mother yelling at the TV “that Monica is a low down bitch I tell you” lol. This was when General Hospital was more than these overdone mafia wars mess they have going on!!!
Donna, That's th gist of their conversation. Jeff knows they belong together.... Even if his dense brother hasn't figured that out yet. Lesley, being the proud and selfless person that she is - chooses to step aside and let Rick have the son she could not give him... She stays silent..
"Monica likes to have her fun / That is why she had a son / She told Rick he was the dad / Soon found out that he'd been had" - General Hospi-tale (Afternoon Delight)
Was this a real parody that existed at the time!? Lol! Monica suddenly turns out to the witch. Lesley gets the ugliness of it all. Well if that is the real Monica, Alan is the only one who can deal with her. Which was the truth. He kept her on the better path. Rick was a jerk in leaving Lesley for a kid. Sad.
Ah the good old days. I miss those times when there was realistic real drama, good writing and a lot of the cast were people who worked in the hospital since the show was called General Hospital. Best of all no Carly or Sonny.
I think Rick was very conflicted. I believe he still loved Lesley and was in agony over the hurt he caused her over the choices he made. I think he definately wanted his son & with that came Monica. When Lesley was drunk after the divorce he took care of her and it was obvious he still loved her but right around that time he had a day at the beach w/Monica where they declared their love for each other which was the same day they were having sex in the Cottage when the explosion occurred.
I love when they try to shame Alan over his announcement with did it have to be done in this way? but Alan gleefully and rightly so gives no fucks Champaign?
Oh wow it is very funny that Pat told Rick about jumping off of a cliff when two loving people are going to get married right..... I do have to say in all honesty Luke was so happy about marrying his Laura he yelled to all of PC... Plus Luke also sang about it too! That is solo very funny! JMVHO! Funny right? Rosie still laughing!
The sound quality is pretty bad on a lot of those, (or they're in German - LOL), so I'm trying to watch with the closed captioning on. I just have to say that youtube's closed captioning is a joke! It SUCKS!! And I almost never use that vulgar term! But, still glad to be able to watch all these. Thanks a bunch!
Many of these are the German video with the audio muted and cassette tape audio laid over. With cassette tapes, there is often the people in the room and their noises that also get picked up
Loved this! Lesley just got stronger & stronger throughout. Hated though that Monica tossed the stuff in about Lesley basically being frigid - totally different then the Lesley we see in ‘81 & when RL remarried - there imo she was the lead in their “moments”. The innuendos, the kisses, etc & RL should have most definitely hashed this whole conversation out before she took the jerk back. Oh and Lesley “understands the passion???!!!” WTH???
By this time, Monica had been a pest in Lesley's life for over 3 years, and Lesley had always managed to show considerable restraint, so that slap was long overdue. I hated how GH turned Alan into a psycho to make Monica look like a victim and to somehow try to justify her devious behavior. It was a relief when she revealed her true colors as a selfish, conniving bitch before Lesley finally smacked her.
Oh, and as much as I love Moni...I cheered when Les slapped the taste out of her. BUT, Moni still a G. She took that slap like a champ. LOL!!! Silly girl. Lesley slapped her good though.
Rick was the one who asked Lesley for the divorce after their long separation. He had decided he wanted to be with Monica and his son after the baptism/attic collapse. Rick told Lesley it would be better if she was the one who filed.
82mmkay 39 seconds ago Watching this again & I still anticipate Lesleys' calm, cool takedown of the B*&TCH - leading with the Slap heard round the world!! It then reminds me to wipe my "sympathy" for Monica, clean away during Alans' post paternity deceit of her w/ Susan and getting it socked to her @ the Rib, seeing Alan & Susan together, while she's alone! This scene signaling the emergence of the feisty & fiercely independent Lesley, makes it all the more enjoyable!!
That scene at the Floating Rib where, once again, Lesley shows she’s truly a woman of class and compassion as she sits with Monica to “shield” her from Alan and Susan
I've never seen this portion of GH before. I have never understood why Leslie wanted Rick or what happened between Rick and Monica that he didn't marry her. This explains it finally. Thanks for posting it. P.S. I never could stand Rick or Monica until later when Monica and Alan got back together. Could never like Rick.
Don't you talk to my Lesley that Way!! And you were incapable of treating Jason right, when he was just a baby!! And innocent!! She Should I Slapped you!! 👏👏😀✊✊!! You Go Lesley!! Woo!! Woo!! Woo!!✊😄✊!!👊👊!!!
Lesley was wrong. Rick was willing to marry Monica after SHE LIED TO BOTH HIM AND ALAN about the paternity. Rick knew Monica was a liar and yet he turned the other cheeck because of the SON!!!!!!!!!! They both got what they deserved!!!!!!
Susan Moore in the background!!! Yikes Alan run away now she’s crazy as her cousin ! I’m sure Jason and Drew would rather not be born than have her as a mother!
Now this is the classic GH I remember! And no Sonny or Carly in sight!
With the amount of people who can’t stand sonny or Carly the writers should do something about that. The current storyline has sonny with amnesia. All the sonny/Carly fans want him to regain his memories and run back to Carly l. I want something else!

JMVHO. Thanks. Rosie.
Way to go, Lesley !
Dennis Fodor so true this was a good scene
Rick has no right to call anyone a liar with all the crap he put Lesley thru.
Rick has a turbulent evening and good old Mike, God bless him, comes along to cheer him up.
Rick and Alan and their son quest.
@@LynnEllingwoodIt was the eighties lol
Great episode
Thanks for posting this! I was hunting for this scene. Remember it from my childhood.
Watching this makes me laugh especially after how Monica acts towards Carly like she's completely clean.
Look at Monica pulling a Carly on Alan with none other than AJ!!!
YES! That’s why so many people couldn’t understand why Monica gave Carly such a hard time back then! Like, uh, didn’t you do the same thing, Monica?! Have some understanding! 😂
Mike actually made his debut way before this. It was around the time Rick moved above Kellys.
Lesley was just too too kind...
This was soaps at it true best and this time was something else.
Dan Rooney: “That was a strange way to make a point about the teaching wing.”
A moment of levity in an uncomfortable situation. 😅
Every soap back in the day had an evil villainess you loved to hate.
ATWT had Lisa ,OLTL had Dorian and GH had Monica.
I loved Leslie ❤️
As the years went on definable ,clear cut bad and good characters disappeared
MsTexas73 very well said and I couldn't agree more!
MsTexas73 so true
I also agree. I felt most sorry for Lesley in this quadrangle.
This was epic!! Scandalous if you will at it’s original best♥️🥂
I agree here
When I first watched it I wanted them together so badly but as an adult not so sure
Lesley really knew Rick in this clip Les tells Monica you don't know the man he is not coming back because he is vulnerable and he cares etc..
she always knew Rick
Monica always cared about Monica-When Rick kicked Monica out of his office is another scene I love and when he called her a baby maker is another
DonnaMazzella Lesley did indeed know Rick.
@@Meadow214 rick got what was coming to him. Payback is a bitch.
In any other circumstance I wouldnt be defending Rick at all but in this instance involving Monica I will because no one deserves to have a child ripped from them rather if its by murder or any other way to include with what Monica did
@@Meadow214 Monica was always a insecure bitch…
@@Meadow214 Rick badgered Lesley to take him back and when she couldn't easily forgive and move on, he dumped her and repeatedly reminded her that his first consideration was his son. Rick knew the kind of woman moni was, he just turned a blinds eye and it bit him hard.
This was classic General Hospital
Yes you are correct. It was when Les was pregnant w/ Camerons' baby, he had died and she was dating Rick. Monica went to Lesleys' home to threaten her to end it with Rick & Les then followed her and lost her footing on the stairs and fell. While Monica didn't push her, if she hadn't of gone to there w/ her rotten intentions in the first place, Les probably wouldn't have had the miscarriage! G'rrrr!
Monica you are so disrespectful to Lesley and that is exactly why you were so miserable.
That is a very cool story!
I guess Monica didn’t know about the skeleton in the attic..
"Frank Parker as Paddy Kelly
owner of Kelly's Pub
later Shawn Brady
owner of Brady's Pub
on Day's."-🤔📺.
What a great slap! Monica needed it, though.
They needed to revisit this when Lesley came back in 1996 or when Rick came back in 2002. Perhaps Lesley should have hooled up with Alan!
Sexists
"Monica likes to have her fun / That is why she had a son / She told Rick he was the dad / Soon found out that he'd been had" - General Hospi-tale (Afternoon Delight)
"Alan was the father of course and he won't give Monica a divorce" Lol! I remember that.
Sad.
+L ellingw General Hospi-tale was a rap song in the early 80s, it was on the radio a lot at the time. It was a modest Hit.
I'll look it up.
fwdthinker Burma shave!!!
Monica thought she could keep Rick using sex, boy was see wrong 😂😂😂
Ah the good old days. I miss those times when there was realistic real drama, good writing and a lot of the cast were people who worked in the hospital since the show was called General Hospital. Best of all no Carly or Sonny.
If this was at a fundraiser, they would have loved to see this shouting and slap fight.
I think Rick was very conflicted. I believe he still loved Lesley and was in agony over the hurt he caused her over the choices he made. I think he definately wanted his son & with that came Monica. When Lesley was drunk after the divorce he took care of her and it was obvious he still loved her but right around that time he had a day at the beach w/Monica where they declared their love for each other which was the same day they were having sex in the Cottage when the explosion occurred.
can't feel sorry for him, no matter how bad that ingrate wanted a child!
The innuendos, the kisses, etc
& RL should have most definitely hashed this whole conversation out before she took the jerk back. Oh and Lesley “understands the passion???!!!” WTH???
Probably another reason for her to “hold out” on Rick during the reconciliation...the celibacy conversation, needing to be sure he really desired her
Jamie Stablein Probably. & good for her. I would have loved loved them to have had that conversation though!
Jill Cerchia agreed!...I laugh at myself sometimes, exploring the psyches of the characters we know and love so well😉
Jamie Stablein Lol. I do the same thing... must be why I like to write fan fics so much.
Jill Cerchia where can I find your fanfics?....I’d love to read them
By this time, Monica had been a pest in Lesley's life for over 3 years, and Lesley had always managed to show considerable restraint, so that slap was long overdue.
The debut of Mike Barrington Blake Webber!
Rick was the one who asked Lesley for the divorce after their long separation. He had decided he wanted to be with Monica and his son after the baptism/attic collapse. Rick told Lesley it would be better if she was the one who filed.
way to go, Rick, for throwing Monica to the floor

Watching this again & I still anticipate Lesleys' calm, cool takedown of the B*&TCH - leading with the Slap heard round the world!!
Now this was when general hospitol was genersl hospitol!!

Years later Alan and Monica become long-standing couple on gh
Honestly Lesley and Alan would’ve made a better couple.
Glad Leslie slapped Monica, to bad she didn’t knock her out. I can never understand why Laura likes her.
When Leslie finally stood up for herself and slapped Monica we all high fived each other. It was great fun watching back in the day and so addictive.
God forbid that punch from Lesley or anything would ever get through to Monica.
Fast forward to every name Monica called Carly for doing the same thing
Is that the actor who played Shawn Brady on Days
I’m curious Rick-Lesley historians; Did they every discuss these results specifically.
They did not. Soaps never talked stuff out.
Well AJ slept with people related to Rick so I really hope Alan is his dad and stay that way since they are both dead it should.
It’s a real thing. Monica got the results and it was explained by the specialist. Alan learned about it too. Some partial clips out there.
