    Quick Summary:
    1. Kit
    a. Body Armor and Side Plates due to artillery.
    b. Lots of Admin and Dump Pouches.
    c. Microfiber cleaning cloth for Optics fogging up.
    d. Foam padding for protecting NODs, i.e. night vision devices aka NVDs.
    e. At least 2 fragmentation grenades and smoke grenades for trench warfare carried on person.
    2. Drones
    a. Defensive positions need top cover with heavy reinforcement and netting to prevent drones from flying in.
    b. Offensive assaults need to immediately seek concealment under brush if in the vicinity of a drone. Retreat immediately if spotted to avoid artillery strike.
    c. Old school shotguns with bird-shot to shoot down any drones.
    3. Mines
    a. Single file patrol formation for the mine threat.
    b. Spacing 5 to 10 meters apart to mitigate threat of exploding ordnance.
    c. Look down for un-buried mines and up for drones.
    d. Use rigid stick to detect tripwires in a cross, i.e. up down side to side, movement
    4. Trench Fighting (it's back)
    a. Assault by closing with the enemy quickly, i.e. run, and using fire superiority by blasting everything in sight using up all your magazine's ammo.
    b. One group assaults and the other provides suppressive fire when assaulting a trench.
    c. Cover corner, throw grenade, and then approach corners.
    d. Trenches booby-trapped with radio detonators (so use Thor jammer).
    e. Don't risk taking prisoners due to conscripts having no valuable intel in trenches; take prisoners for intel if able.
    f. Safety rounds, i.e. shoot any enemy body you see to make sure they are dead. Russian are playing dead then throwing grenades.
    g. Speed, surprise, aggression.
    5. Weapon Setups
    a. 308 for rifle.
    b. Optics for short and long distances.
    c. Don't use lasers designator to avoid being shot at by a tank.
    d. Night vision and thermal absolutely essential for fighting at night. "If you don't have night vision, you are phocked."
    6. General Advice:
    a. Enemy quality varies tremendously.
    b. Enemy probing to locate your position with conscripts then followed by enemy artillery fire or highly trained SVR in gillie suits.
    c. Tape up camera lens so not visible to IR detection and subsequent tank fire on your person.
    d. Use ponchos to view any electronics due to IR signature and subsequent tank fire on your person.
    e. Aperture detection, i.e. cover up the end of your optic with tape so only a small slit (so a sniper doesn't shoot you or a computer shoots a laser in your eye) with the Killflash Anti-Reflection Devices" product.
    7. Artillery
    a. Heavily used and detected with sound signatures.
    b. Fragmentation consistency is poor compared to Western rounds.
    c. Get prone immediately if hit with artillery, i.e. hit the deck, (by wearing knee and elbow pads that allow you to drop immediately and repeatedly).
    d. Constantly look down (for mines), then up (for drones), and around (to remember the nearest piece of cover in the event of artillery).
    8. Words of Wisdom
    a. Get trained and take the training seriously.
    b. Basic training ensures survival.

For tripwire detection, you can also modify the stick method with a 3-4 foot length of paracord or flagging tape. Let it hang down from the end of the stick and watch for the flagging to begin to bend as it catches the wire. Flagging is super light so less likely to set off the wire.
You can also use a visible laser and slowly sweep up and down, left and right. Watch for the laser to reflect off of the wire or line.

I’ve been in the woods in pitch black darkness with the point with a set of PVS-5 goggles. During Desert Storm. We had three sets of PVS-7 goggles. I had one. I was driving, and we were trying to find the main element of Division HQ moving north on day one of the ground offensive. The only reason we've gone back to trench warfare is because it's well-armed white guys versus well-armed white guys again for the first time in 70 years, except this time it's in open fields unlike the majority of WW2, where trenches were pointless by virtue of the Axis forces having equal (and sometimes superior) air power... Following WW2, we fought nothing but poorly trained (in comparison) men weilding poorly maintained Russian-made rifles in the tropical forrests of Asia where trenches were pointless for a completely different reason to WW2. Trenches exist when both sides have respectable weapon systems, but almost no air support, and it's not simply an asymmetrical Turkey shoot against compariatively untrained, illiterate religious zealouts who have been promised 72 virgins in the afterlife.

Few other tips from Ukraine... A few sheets of 3a Kevlar inside your shoulder straps, covers subclavian, it'll be enough to stop some shrapnel. If you're working a defensive position and expecting to get pounded, an Osprey Mark 3+ or similar with full neck, shoulder, and groin protection is ideal. Get a torch with an ultra low power moonlight mode and usb car charger, spend sometime in basements. Bring a lot of CBD for your knees...

@@CorruptDemocratsJ6I agree with your comment that “war never changes” is inaccurate, with the implication being that war is always the same and strategies and tactics never change or advance. However, that isn’t even kind of what he said. He said that war is hell and that will never change, which most certainly agreeable and accurate. For those who have actually fought in wars, for those actually fighting in wars, and for the civilians caught in the middle of the war, war is hell and war will always be hell. I struggle to find anything inaccurate or disagreeable about that comment. War was hell for the people involved in the US Civil war, war was hell for the people involved in the First World War, war was hell in World War 2, and war is hell for the people involved in the Ukraine War. While each person may describe different levels of the intensity of their experience, as a blanket statement, actual warfare will never change in that it will always be hell for many of those who experience it. Sure strategies, tactics, technologies, and methods of warfare will most certainly change, but the human experience of war firsthand will never really change.
