I just finished this book, and I'm still wiping the tears from my eyes. Interested to know what point you DNFed. I felt so much reading this novel, and the evolution of Yara by the end had me sobbing tears of happiness. This is one of the most moving novels I've read in awhile.
I cannot recall anymore where I DNF'd it....but it may have been half way. I love that the book moved you so much! Finding those books that bring you on such an emotional journey is such a wonderful experience :) One of the reasons I love being here with other readers is how we can all pick up on different things when reading the same book, or feel differently about what we have read. It is always so interesting to hear! Hope you have many more great reads in 2024 :)
Just want to correct that Yara (main character) was born in New York, and she is not an immigrant but a child of immigrant parents. The book is about her struggles with anxiety and depression caused by generational trauma and how she overcomes that.
Just finished the book, my background is similar to hers and I found the description of her desperation very touching. I agree that the other character could have evolved little better but in general I found her story very compelling.
This is so disappointing. I read A Woman is No Man and liked it as well. I didnt pick it up from BOTM but I still may get it from the library and give it a try.
What a disappointment! I also loved A Woman is No Man and chose this one as my BOM for September and was really looking forward to reading it. I saw on Goodreads that you only gave it a one star and I have been anxious to hear why you didn’t like it. Oh well we can’t love very book!
It’s so nice to see someone genuinely rating a book and giving their real opinion without sugarcoating things. Love your reviews!
Thank you, that really means a lot!
