I began collecting Joe in late 1988 so Tiger Force and Python Patrol was the only way to get older figures and vehicles. The Python Vipers and Officers were my front line soldiers for Cobra till I could get the original versions.
I've had the theory (and have wondered if there was any reality to it) that Tiger Force and Python Patrol were a way for Hasbro to reintroduce characters that were heavily featured in the original Sunbow cartoon (which would be in syndication and home video at this point) but which were no longer in stores, and get kids who were watching to cartoon reruns hooked onto the current Joe line.
@@DarkWizard83 It makes sense to me, since I continued to watch the Sunbow cartoon in reruns and as a result I wanted to purchase many of the action figures of the characters featured. Tiger Force Duke was the first version of Duke that I owned. Likewise Slaughter's Marauders appealed to me for the same reason, get new versions of popular characters from the cartoon. I never got any Python Patrol action figures back in my childhood, although I wanted to get them. Hopefully down the road I can get some, I would not mind getting more of the modern sculpt Python Patrol figures either.
I think python patrol works better as a commando unit that's how my friends and I used them when we were kids. Each member was at the top of the cobra forces an were picked to be special unit.
Love Python Patrol agree completely that there are worse figures like the non crimson crimson guard banana suit and the televiper I love the officer and Trooper I hope to see more reviews in the future also the Star Trek skit was awesome thanks to die cast enterprise for sponsoring hcc788 so we can get this content bring back the comic reviews every now and then I really enjoyed them
Love this video! And not just because the thumbnail is based on a photo of my cosplay of the Python Patrol Viper ;-P Keep up the good work, Commander!!!
I love this figure and I am thinking quite a lot about 1989 and when I saw Python patrol figures sold. Now my memory was I only saw them for sale when I was in New York in October 1989 but never saw them ever here in Los Angeles as well as Arizona or Texas all places I was going to frequently in 1989-90 and always checking the toy shelves for new GI Joes. I was always sad not to have found them again as I wanted to get some of the other figures and now in retrospect wonder why I never saw them outside of NY City?
My theory is that the goggles are night vision or something similar that enhances vision and they could be used over the face plate. Other possibility is that face plate is removable and goggles are used in combination with typical Cobra balaclava.
those goggles are useless. how does he pull them down to his eyes? the strap is threaded through loops on the helmet, both on the figure and the card art.
As a joe collector I severely hate Python Patrol and Tiger Force. It worked on the business level to reuse old molds but as a kid and into an adulthood I truly hate them.
Now I understand your point & respect . Hoover in 90 when I was kid in Poland I was 10 years stupid kid who has been happy to see new line of Joe's in stores ...
1980Triumph tiger force is when i checked out on gi joe, even as a 12yr old i knew what hasbro was doing. I do think python patrol is way better though. There version of the conquest was one of the nicest vehicles in the joe line
I rather liked them, but I was born in '84. Which meant Python Patrol was my first chance to own any of those figures, except for the Crimson Guard I'd inherited from my older brother.
I like this figure, but I think they should have left the face plate silver, like the original. Had they done that, painted those arm straps, this would have been a top notch figure.
I almost army build my with this viper. Lucky I only found 3 when it first came out. But I did get the set. But not the vehicles since I had the originals. I only wanted them because my original versions were all worn up. I mostly keep these guys as Dessert troopers. One Question. Who's the person that sings these songs. Like Python patrols theme song. Heck. Who sings the original opening for the Joes.
For stealth mission I suggest SMG / AR with silencer not grenade launcher especially in night or storm ... But what I know ... Have a nice week commander !
I did exactly that with the rifle. I hated the subsets because they weren't new figures. But if I saw a reason I would pick one up. I wanted the head and the rifle on the Viper and I put it on the old Viper and made him awesome. And then I took the gray and yellow pants and I put that on the second Dr Mindbender. I also got a Slaughter's Marauder Bazooka but that's cuz Bazooka's rad. The rest of the rehash subsets are dumb. Ha
wasn't the starfleet insignia on the other side of your shirt before your pythonization. the file card has a glaring error. if the vipers are the bottom rung of the ladder, then where do the python officers and python troopers fit in. overall the figure is a definite mid tier.
what always baffled me more than the goggles was that the strap is run through loops on the helmet. even if he needed them, how would he get them down over his face?
I like all the colors except the red goggle lenses. They look like distracting red eyes. Better if the goggles were all one color like the original. All gray maybe, like his uniform. It just all black. Good review!
2spooky4me Python Patrol complicates even more the difference between Vipers and original troopers. Vipers are the backbone and troopers are basic infantrymen? Sounds like the same thing.
sirkowski python patrol officers are standard cobra troopers and pp troopers are Cobra officers. it's an upside down pyramid. I don't even know what pp guards do.
Pyhton patrol needs more reviews but it's sub team that is confusing. python patrol officers are my favorite of the team. I'm still confused about Copperhead and his piloting the Python Conquest on the box art.
Always the fun tradition to see the new video on a Sunday afternoon. However Python Patrol was horrible to me as was Tiger Force and I didnt like them as well as the Marauders. It was so frustrating to see remakes of the orig figures I would have bought multiples of at the time in these horrible paint schemes. I kind of am gettign like you on the topic of Cobra-La so that should sum up my feelings on this sad era of the Joe line to me.
nice work man ..I am not a fan of banana man ..hahaha...now there is a toys r us exclusive python patrol set that included major bludd (version two), lamprey, rock viper, heat viper, saw viper ,and laser viper in Python patrol coloring gold, bright red ,and black not sure what year it came out 2000.maybe but it's a nice set the figures look good I do like the idea but the yellow gotta go the red would look better I do like the viper trooper bit I'd stay away from this version the red and gold looks better I'll see if I can find a pic and post it for ya
M.G.Villan I no longer collect. I did sell the exclusive set for $150. never opened, no damage to packaging. the individual that bought it was frothing at the mouth.
matt lerch hahahahahahhaaa.lol..wow it went for that much ..I actually considering getting this set I've seen it going for anywhere between 60-100$ I'm just looking for the right price
It's funny that hasbro has been doing the same thing all this time, releasing the same figures over and over with just different paint schemes and call it something new. They even do it with the marvel line. I rather buy the original figure in it's original color scheme, I was never able to find most joes when I was a kid I had mainly cobras

Anybody else picture these guys as Cobra dog handlers? I just keep picturing him holding Junkyard's leash.
I was always a big fan of the original 1986 Viper. I owned one. Never owned any Python Patrol figures. The Python Viper looks cool too.
I think I have a whole bunch of different Viper troopers, I love those Laser Rifles
Look here Captain!!!
I think Mrs. Hoody is very civilized! 😁😁😁😁
You guys rock!!!
i almost like this figure more than the original. pretty cool repaint in my book.
Awesome review always liked PP (yep all the PP figures) Viper, Trooper, CG and Copperhead esp. Great Review 🐍
This viper was as good as the original
Love this video! And not just because the thumbnail is based on a photo of my cosplay of the Python Patrol Viper ;-P Keep up the good work, Commander!!!
Great episode, and now I'm checking out the Diecast Enterprise podcast!

Loved the Star Trek reference my friend!!!
The ultimate Cobra Viper infantry....🐍
Oh, and where on earth can I get the 1994 Convention exclusive Fighter Pilot?
Ever wonder why they have goggles on their helmet when they have a face shield?
The original Jackal My theory is that incase the faceplate cracks or goes missing, they switch to the googles.
I have always wondered that myself. I was thinking maybe they were afraid people would think it's Cobra Commander in yet another uniform.
As was said previously, it's almost certainly reserve eye protection in case the visor is damaged.
My theory is that the goggles are night vision or something similar that enhances vision and they could be used over the face plate. Other possibility is that face plate is removable and goggles are used in combination with typical Cobra balaclava.

My favorite as well, great and fun reviews
Glad you did this guy one of my fav going to Tulsa this weekened any place to. Find joes there
Hey, Justin! There is a vintage toy mall in Broken Arrow at the corner of Elm and Houston. It's worth checking out.
Great vid! The Python Viper needs a medic, he has a cracked right elbow lol. That happens a lot to the figures. Keep up the great work
MY FAVORITE WEAPON OVERALL
I loved both the original and this one the super sonic viper wasn't bad either.
Question: What do your neighbors say when you make a video in your back yard?
I almost army build my with this viper. Lucky I only found 3 when it first came out. But I did get the set. But not the vehicles since I had the originals. Hey, HCC. Is Battle Corps on series 12 and 13 (93-94) only? I want to complete Battle Corps, Slaughter Marauders, Python Patrol, and Night Force.
I did exactly that with the rifle. I hated the subsets because they weren't new figures. But if I saw a reason I would pick one up. Great review. Cheered me up.
Like the name Python Viper even if they don't really go together
...where's the credit for the Cosplayer in the thumbnail?
Another great review. Question do think you can solve the mystery of way they have goggles when they have a visor over their faces?
Do they have night vision ???
what always baffled me more than the goggles was that the strap is run through loops on the helmet. even if he needed them, how would he get them down over his face?

Great review Commander
Well there is simple method than " Pythonization " in SF like clones , cyborgization or gene play . :P
What’s the 788 mean
Didnt Kirk have a ripped shirt at the end of every fight ????
Pyhton patrol needs more reviews but it's sub team that is confusing. python patrol officers are my favorite of the team. I'm still confused about Copperhead and his piloting the Python Conquest on the box art.
Why are you referencing the original Star Trek when it's a Next Generation podcast?

another great video!keep up the good work
What’s 788 mean
It's the number on the HISS tank.
what about the sonic series viper of 90.
nice work man ..I am not a fan of banana man ..hahaha...now there is a toys r us exclusive python patrol set that included major bludd (version two), lamprey, rock viper, heat viper, saw viper ,and laser viper in Python patrol coloring gold, bright red ,and black not sure what year it came out 2000.maybe but it's a nice set the figures look good I do like the idea but the yellow gotta go the red would look better I do like the viper trooper bit I'd stay away from this version the red and gold looks better I'll see if I can find a pic and post it for ya
M.G.Villan I had this set. unfortunately I had to sell it a few years ago. sad day
matt lerch it's a nice set unfortunately I never got it but I like the color scheme a little better than the yellow
matt lerch have you ever looked Into getting one ...they not that expensive but they are hard to come by
M.G.Villan I no longer collect. I did sell the exclusive set for $150. never opened, no damage to packaging. the individual that bought it was frothing at the mouth.

I wager 50 quattro's on the newcomer.

Releasing the same mold in different decos is standard industry practice; just saying.
wraiths were a better name
Python = rehash. Slaughter's marauders = vomit
awesome video and review but can you do more python patrol reviews?
Hey, Hoodie... Check it out on google FORÇA NAJA GATILHO (TRIGGER) Brazil.
beep-boop-baap-beep-beep-boop-baap-beep-beep
No interest in these sub teams.
