Make no mistake, it's awesome. But even the most dedicated collectors I've talked with all have the same opinion, it just costs too much, along with too few being available. Hey Mattel, make 25,000 sets priced at $100-$150 each and feed the hobby...instead of dissapointing the people who keep the Hot Wheels brand alive.
The problem with that is at $20 per car times 16 come out to $320 for the cars alone, $100 to $150 on mettels is not feasibility.
Ok then, $350. It just feels like a rip-off when the box costs 150 dollars.
Dew2667, agreed. I just hope HW continues to sell the remaining 8 after making the first 8 individually available...
I totally agree! It's the 50th anniversary of Hotwheels! This sort of stuff should be for everyone. They can have these really special extra quality sets for the guys who have money burning holes in their pockets, but what about all the other fans of the brand? Like, the people this stuff should actually be made for... if the cars were like the 5 car series they made, and the whole set was much more affordable, it would be a much greater service to the real fans, but they're catering to the people who will give them the $$$, which I understand, it is a business at the end of the day. Still disappointing, but they have given us some great stuff this year regardless.
Supernice !! But the fact that Mattel made it next to unaffordable for a hobby peice kind of dulls the shine.😫
I remember this display well, I’m 65 years old an I remember seeing this display at a local Toy store that sold Hot Wheels
For the price of $500 Mattel should've used acrylic instead of cheap plastic for the window display.
Those wheels ruin it for me
This is the pinnacle of classic redline hot wheels collecting. A true heritage/nostalgia piece. It does not get better than this!
I remember trying to buy one these sets 12 months after they where realised people where asking $1500
For them and had 3 of them.
Greedy bastards!. Now they are $3000
The greedy then now wish they had kept them. Not many of us true collectors got one,
Can't deny its nice and nostalgic for those who remember when hotwheels were 1st displayed like this when they came out
Its quite expensive
Only to the most dedicated or opertunist of hotwheels.
Near 32 dollars each plus the display and the historical value is a very fair price.
When you think about it, it's really not that expensive, and shipping is free. I mean, if you buy 1 RLC car, it's $26 with shipping. This set runs about $31 per car, and you get the display case. You don't have to use it, can display them any way you want. Plus, the cars are loose, so you don't have to ponder the ever-present questions about opening the blister. They are ready to be played with, just as they were in '68! Plus, the colors are exclusive to this set, so they will forever hold value and will go up in price as long as you take care of them.
I bought this set and plan not to open the box.
Wow awesome set but waaay too expensive for the average collector, theres no way Ill be able to afford it in Australia, Ill buy a real car for that money, thanks for showing its really cool
I would pay five hundred in a heartbeat for something so rare and buitiful this one be a center piece to any collection
All I can say is.."I have this set.!!!... It gets better and better each day I walk by it and look at it..."Sho nuff stunning !!
Opening part on the VW is the sunroof. I had all of these as a kid, sold them at a yard sale when I was in Jr. High long before any of these became collectible.
I am 100% sure that I am...
not going to get this!!
Eddie Munster you’re not alone bud
Empty Pocket strikes back
Now they go for 1500 sheesh
While it looks great and comes with the original "Sweet Sixteen" castings, i feel that you could make a replica of it (minus the cars of course) for way less money than the $500 asking price. Reason is, this display set will be hard to acquire as only 1500 are made. In any case, thanks for the detailed presentation Lamley, that was awesome to watch!
This set of cars are far better then the cars that first came out in 1968 ...Bought the case of ebay without the car s Then went back bought the station with all the cars from a guy that gave me a deal .YEP !! I spent that much !
I had so many of these when I was younger . nice set
That was like Easter because all of the beautiful colors. I love that custom corvette the most!
Man this set is the holy grail of sets
The paint is so Beautiful! Spectraflame bliss!
I got one ! Cant wait for it to arrive and set it up....going to keep it until I die, then kids can have it.
So $500 - 2018 $5000 in 2021
- WOW People cant tell me Collecting Toys isn't its own Stock Market.
i was 7 in 68...i have no memory of this in stores...that doesnt mean it wasnt there...all i remember was the blisters hanging and the sets on the shelves
I think the "original 16" is for the models, not the display case.
the O-16 are the models...but its an O-16 display for the models
0 (zero) not O (letter)
no its the letter O for original
i currently collect the old 1968 hotwheels so if you have any left and want to sell them let me know :)
Wow, I'm glad I don't collect HotWheels. I would definitely have to have this! It's beautiful and I love when things from the past are recreated with the same quality they had originally. Not cheap knock-offs that resemble the icon that we remember. It's sad how everything we buy nowadays has been devalued but still costs a fortune. It's even more sad that in the future people will look at the throw away junk we buy today as quality compared to what they have.
the cars the came in the box in my opinion are way to shiny compared to the originals and the spectro flame orange looks really nasty compared to the original spectroflame orange
I nabbed one of these this past Tuesday- sold out in under 10 minutes so I heard. $500 is a lot of money, I agree. However, is $500 too much? Well, that is for you to decide. For me, I saw a very special opportunity to be able to acquire a very special set of cars. All exclusive models in an exclusive display, from an exclusive club (RLC). I am honored to be able to acquire a set, and look forward to getting it in the mail.
I absolutely love the Sweet 16 Hot Wheels.
I remember in the early years of Ebay. one of the original displays going for about $33.000 with the original cars. The cars in the display were the original cars with the elastic bands to hold the cars with the dab of rubber cement to hold the hoods open. I was blown away and saved pics from the auction with the idea of replicating it someday. Several years ago I would have happily bought this repro set for $500.00 but I am now retired and save my money for taxes and etc. And I am again jealous of those that with have this beautiful set.
Beautiful cars. The set is way nicer than I expected, but there's no way I can spend that kind of money.
These are so much better than originals the quality on the paint is really sharp and perfect they almost look like candy .these awesome casting are really smooth and VERY COOL!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I found myself saying "WOW!" a lot.
It pains my heart that RLC membership was limited to only a few thousand people.
I can't be a part of it, since all the spots are filled. I'll just stay here and rewatch this video for 5 hours now ;-;
Way to expensive. I'd rather buy a few nice original redlines for that much money.
so lets all get on ebay and pay the original buyers a $1000 who did not want them in the first place.well done hot wheels.you have done it again.
taking away an item that all the real collectors can not afford to buy. because you choose to make the greedy greedier! by not making enough,
Everyone saying they won't buy this, but I can guarantee it will sell out. Also, the sunroof opens on the vw and the 'originals' are actually based on real life show cars of the day.
One drawer i would kill for! Sorry it sounds worse than i intended. But kt is awesome. Awe inspiring
They are Beautiful!
Why no commemorative HW buttons or badges also included??
I wish I could afford one.. Great video as always sir!!!
Hot Heap was based on a real 1960s show car, Don Tognotti's King T. The Cheetah (aka Python) is also based on a 1960s show car, built by Bill Cushenbery.
Yeahbitcwas called the CarCraft DreamRod.
This is a great and i repeat great example of you the great perks to what you do!!!!!!!!!!
let me guess......i wont be able to get it cause it'll be exclusive rlc stuff again....& on evilbay it'll be the price of a small size real car....at least i do have an original 1968 set
I have bought real cars for less than the price of this.
You have an original store display?
You are right some people want 2k
This set will fit my 1968 Drag bug well. The first one not the replacements.
I would like to see all 16 released into the mainstream. Not spectraflamed up or with the original suspension maybe. But regular paint? Light green = Antifreeze
Dark brown = chocolate. That type of thing. Modern pr5s for wheels with straight axles. Thats what I think would be cool for the collector who cant shell out $500.
So sad that Mattel won't sell stuff like that in Germany. The shipping costs, the membership fee and the price make this way too expensive. At least the German diecast collectors got the 50th favorites, the black & gold and the zamac series to celabrate Hot Wheels. But I would had like to see the heritage line in the retro package at least. I got from the 50th favourites 2 VW Drag Buses one opend and one carded, one Datsun 510 loose and the VW Squareback.
Jan Ruber you atleast get to attend the conventions in Germany, meanwhile in my country (India) we are still devoid of that
Nice I still need the squareback, drag bus, truck, and the 56 chevy.
@@civicrider5556 In my case I didn't attend the conventions, but you're right. There are many toy fairs and conventions in Germany. I got most stuff of my diecast collection from local flea markets and stores. Siku is a big collector's favourite in Germany. These are high-quality diecast cars. These were made in Germany until the 1990s. Old Sikus in mint condition are worth a lot of money in my country. Some of them have similiar prices compared to original mint Redlines.
Germans are lucky
Jan Ruber we have siku in our country too but old stock, we haven’t got the new one yet, really waiting for the Bugatti chiron
It’s very nice BUT i rather use the money for my kids it’s way too much money!! This set should be at Walmart for a good affordable price so everyone can afford it and enjoy it!
I collect NASCAR 1/24 diecast. Hot Wheels are indeed more of a toy hobby.
Make no mistake, if I had the coin and was in the RLC, I'd scoop one of these sets up, set it up, and leave it untouched.
No words mate.. Absolute stunner
😍 love hot wheels forever 💓
Wow what a Beautiful set! Thanks for the sharing 👌 and making us feel depressed bcuz I can't have one lol!
Excelente video amigo aunque no hablo inglés se que es el set más bello que haya visto agradezco que lo hayas compartido y pues ni modo aunque no hay mercado abierto para México me hubiese gustado tener la oportunidad de adquirirlo gracias nuevamente
Laaaaawwwwwwd the paint job is AMAZING!
Just waiting for the Tuesday website frenzy again...hopefully get at least 1 of these bad boyz !
I’m drooling 🤤 right now!!!! Great set but one question though, will you be doing the hotwheels 50th Ann. Master set too?
I was 8 yrs old those were the days
That paint is where the money is at. Too bad it sold out already, would have been worth every penny.
What a beautiful set! Way to expensive for me’ love the paint and colours.
Such a nice display
Those cars are the best I've ever seen
I really want the hot wheels Deora 1
I wonder how much the price will be on the secondary market.
2009 was first year of the O16. Plan was 2 per year leading to this year. Didn't quite work that way, heh
$32 per car...roughly... Well worth it. I can sell each car 3 x that amount...
what is your tie with Mattel or HWC/RLC How do you have one of these prior to sale?
My wife said if I order 1, she'll leave me. Guess I'm single.
Just had my set delivered outer ship box damaged inner white mattel box damaged and plastic mould tray damaged I paid ££1400 not happy it's got to go bk
How much should I ask to be knocked off to compensat damage I'm thinking £800 of if not I'll open a case with paypal
wear did you get this display is it in the stores
Awesome HWC original sweet 16 set and display case you reviewed congrats.👍
I just want you to know I love your videos
This is the only place I've seen the 50th anniversary cars without the 50th anniversary decals on the side and I prefer them that way. IMHO: why plaster a decal onto a gorgeous car! Racing stripes, etc, I could see. Are these decal-less cars only available with the set?
Wish I could of bought one when they came out...sets over a grand on ebay😣
These are nice, but to much like an over restored show car. Way nicer than they ever left the factory.
Is it just me or did some of the cars have imperfections not found on the 0-16 they have been selling for years. The Barracuda seemed really pot marked and toned. Camaro, Firebird and Mustang all seem spotty as well. Lighting?
yea i noticed that too :/
I don't think so. Their perfect
Are these castings available separately?
Everyone says it cost too much and no one's going to buy it but I bet it'll sell out before I get my chance
I got all the first releases but missed out on this set😡😡😡
It will be nice for those that collect those...!!! To much money for me 👍🏽👍🏽
I'm seeing the display box is over $100? Whoa. I'd rather just have the black felt drawer to display them in. The black makes the spectraflame POP. Either way I can't afford this. Hell I still haven't gotten over half of this years mainlines.
Smaller production numbers on the cars themselves raises the price as well. It is cheaper per car to make 10000 of one car vs 1500. Yea the display ain't cheap either, but production numbers are also a source of the cost.
Mattel really should have produced more of these for a lesser price. Nice looking set, but too exclusionary.
So for $500 I can get a hard cardboard display and sorta pokey clear plastic? For that price it should be wood and and a strong plexiglass or acrylic. 🤷🏼♀️
if any one deserves this set it is me I was there from the very beginning its so sad to me there wont be none to be have except on ebay for 1000 I dream of these cars...
Me too I bought them all when they were first released. I need this
Can you tell me the exact measurements of this display , just want to see if I have room for it , thanks.
Whoa!
Cost way to much. There is no good reason they should cost that much. They are made from pot metal with some cardboard and plexiglass it looks like for a display. There is noway the materials justify any price like that.
the materials of a Ferrari 250 GTO do not cost 50 million, the car does though ... it's always a question whether you find the people paying for something and I'm sure that there will be 1,500 and more people around the world willing to pay it. Does not mean I agree with the decision, because I'd wouldn't mind owning one, but not at that price ...
Let’s say each car is $20, that gets you to $320, display costs $50-$75 and the rest is exclusivities....
Some just don't get it, you should have been there in 68 I was 6 and absolutely crazy for hotwheels and the commercials on Saturday mornings
CoOL...but 500.00 ❓❓❓❓❓Mattel is just ripping joe collector off with costs like this ...Why not make something that is available as a mail in ❓❓❓
Love your videos
I scored one of these today. Yee Haw!
I would love to have some dimensions on the Store Display itself. W x H x L so i can see if she fits in my glass display case. Thanks in advance for any help
I think I read somewhere it's 27 x 12 x 12 but don't quote me on that. Mike Zarnock video shows a good shot next to him, so those sound about right.
@@bdanyluk Thanks you sir I appreciate the reply.
Very cool set.
The paintfinish is way better than the orig. ones, right ?
it's rlc quality, can't be compared to 68 spectraflam
Nice package and display. Unfortunately less detail than the RLC single package counterparts.
Where you buy it
Super awesome classics 👍😂💖
Why is this set not available in store for all the collectors? What a disappointment. Plus it's way too expensive. I was hopping to get one but looks like I will have to forget about it.
Esta bien de poca madre!!!!!!! I WANT ONE !!!!! 😲😍😆😲
Is this video from the future? They have not even shipped this item yet? WTF?
Awesome cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just wondering does Mattel let you keep these items when you preview them
i want this
why don't u unbox the 50th anniversary originals.....?
Very cool!
its cool, but 500,- for what in essence is a cardboard box and 16 cars seems really steep to me...
I mean, 500 divided by 16 equals 31.25 per car,and there still is that nice display, but I do wish it would go for less though
Yeah, replicas are cool but, do you know what's better than replicas? Originals. So glad my dad never opened his and kept them. The display case would be cool to have though.
Hola buen día saludos yo ando en busca de la serie tendrás alguna información me sería muy útil gracias
Awesome but impossible . Make this stuff available for everyone , not just the elite few.
