Every time I see a new JB video, it's like hearing from an old friend. I'm happy to see that some of those new Scandi lines look to have a little bit of spice to them!
Hey John! Nice games, the last roller coaster was particularly entertaining :) Have a great vacation in Iceland. Hopefully no volcano eruptions during your time there :)
OMG! Did you even see that your rating was 2799 on that last game?! ROFL, almost had a heart attack!! Congrats on being a lowly 2806!! Great to see you back, can't wait to see the Scandi course!!
John, could you please look into why the Twitch live video from August 23rd isn't available on Twitch? All the other weekly videos are there, except for this one. Could you upload it?
In the last game, 14. Ne5 would have been crushing! The knight on d7 and the bishop on h5 are both hanging, and the bishop is also protecting against an eventual mate on the f7 square, so it can't take white's bishop.
Good point, that struck me as very winning as well. Also later when John thought he was forked with Qa5, there was Qc1 defending both the Ba3 and Re1. Sloppy game but fortune favours the brave!
He played the right line for the fishing pole. There are very few scandi lines in which you can try this idea and I believe they're all in the 3. Nf3 line. The correct follow up which I think John mentioned was f5! instead of g3. f5 simply adds a defender to the g4 pawn but the sinister idea is to play an eventual g6 allowing the queen to traverse the 7th rank. Most likely you would play f6 to add some extra cushion to g4 because white always has the option of saccing the bishop for 2 pawns for a queen exchange
@@seanlee7054 I totally have the brains of a fish. I'm just going to keep staring at it until I bite. I usually try to ignore it but what can a fish brain like myself do? I just play the classical variation and forget about the whole fishing pole idea altogether.
I think John is trying to prove equality with the scandinavian. If he manages that would honestly be game changing for the game. The scandinavian really has a undeserved bad reputation because beginners all seem to play it. I'm really looking forward to the course. It might honestly have a huge impact on the game of chess.
Game 3 "this is a great opponent...we're rated about the same..." With all due respect, your rating is kinda' like the nine-year-old with cheeto dust on his or her fingertips...if you were able to simply enjoy playing, whoa...big numbers. Instead, we get to enjoy your outstanding commentary. While going 5 for 5...
Thank you, AFrenchman! I've found it challenging to balance my videos/streaming while working on a major project like this, which I think is natural and OK. I'm looking forward to completing the course and returning to a more frequent upload frequency, though.
Hey John,this is guys
@27:50 why not qc1 defending both pieces?
Exactly my question
Maybe because of bxc4 and then qxh4 threat?
Honestly didn't see it!

3:51 i first thought you said 'stupid' after taking that pawn. I was like wow john being sassy today lol
Loved this video! Really a good one.
Especially the gem insight about life in the end… thank you John, really!
Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed it!

Happy birthday John! 🎉
You create the best chess content on RUclips and my family is always exited to see your new video.
Greetings from Serbia!
Awww thanks so much. Appreciate you tuning in from Serbia!
wow, 5th game, amazing scramble at the end
Instructions unclear, opponent has now pressed assault charges.
Great to see you back bro.
Bravo! Glad to have a clock-as-a-weapon video from you...s'been quite a while.
Cheers!
Great performance, John! Finally beating the clock after all these years 😄
Even though I’m 6 months older than John, he’s still my chess dad
Less time on Scandi course. More content pretty please 😊
😅 Working on it!
5/5 John very impressive. Strong opponent - that last game they were throwing everything at you. Hope all is well buddy 💪
Enjoy Iceland
Good games. And 02:34 bon voyage! :)

Hello! I was playing some music, so I didn't archive the VOD.
When would you estimate that the Scandinavian course would be out?
I'd estimate late November/early December. Really want to get it out before the holidays/end of the year!
Your pure class JB!
Oooooe.. I win
Game 5
Nice reaction

Great games, John! I was wincing on that last game since I know how those usually go but pumping my fist for you at the end. Cheers!
The good old fishing pole. I usually try to ignore it. Sometimes it works. But probably not a good idea.

Thanks a lot - I hope it leads to people paying a bit more attention to the Scandi, yes! I think it's a great practical option for almost any level.
Pawns are real spooky sometimes
Yes they are! 🦇
The last opponent was Shelev Oberoi, an 18-year-old NM with 3 IM norms.
Strong player! I remember teaching him at a chess camp a few years ago.
I need my hands on that course!
🙏
The layout (with the pieces in the left corner above) is confusing
John, do you ever watch the old Warzone Chess vids with Jerry yelling H2! H2!!!
I love the Kan and the Taimonov. It's not just tricks, it's solid fun!
Also, great finish! Wow goin to town!
Hope you enjoy your visit here, make sure to check out our "tourist volcano" while here, since it's erupting these days 😅
Thanks - I'm loving it here!!
Heart rate through the roof. Enjoy your vacation and new rating.
Thanks a lot , and sorry to spike your heart rate!
Have fun in Iceland dude!
Thanks so much! I'm back now - it was a memorable trip. Beautiful country
Enjoy some time off! Will you visit the grave of the late great Bobby Fischer?
Thanks, West! I may have to visit - I have not done so yet!
1:11 what was the idea after Bxf3 and Rc8? Qe4?
6 blunders on that last match 🤣
Always a good day when a new JB video drops. Thank you!

At 27:40 when white gets forked, can Queen c1 not defend both pieces? Or am i missing something
