One of the BEST ever on combustion chamber activity and ignition waveforms. I have studied under Mac for A LOT of years. Thank You TST for this GREAT Presentation.
Thank you Mac! When I spotted your videos ,,, I said,, WOW. I took some of your classes,,, probably ,,, some 31 years ago. You are amazing and I leaned a lot from you. Very happy to see you again. Just like old times.

What an awesome instructor who enriched the lives of many in our trade. I am so happy to have been considered to be a friend and colleague of his. Godspeed Mac VandenBrink! Thank you TST for capturing this awesome content!
Scott thank you for your comments....Mac was a nice intelligent man. I loved listening to him...his jagies and how he would dig so deep into ignition...Father of the Allen Smart Scope, Mac ...God bless,...RIP... 🙏
I have RUclips premium and just turn the video off and listen with headphones, when I'm doing other boring tasks in life....heck, might as well learn something while I'm painting the fence 😅
so cool to see, learn what i have learnt as electrician automobile does, great explanations.wow cool i would like to get deeper insight to what i have learnt.

I have been looking this presentation several times and had to go back and forwards several times to understand. Any way the approach to "understand" instead of "memorizing" is a very interesting approach. I payed special attention to the sequence that starts at 1:06 and which I call the "15 seconds cranking". I was astonished that cranking with the gas pedal at the floor would cut fuel. I never experienced this and don't understand it. Maybe I do it wrong. Can somebody explain please?
Glad my friend Mac (may he rest in peace) was able to help you learn. Mac was a great instructor that really knew ignition. great video, at 1:13:00 ish, how did that guy guess timing? i guessed compression but how does timing change where the spark ends up? does anybody know? thanks in advance
When at idle, the kv demand is "high", therefore the spark jumps thru the light bulb as it is the path of lower resitance in comparison to the in-cylinder pressure combined with the relatively late ignition timing. When accelerating , the timing is being advanced and spark takes place earlier when there is less compression in the cylinder at the given moment where the spark occures, hence there is less kv demand.in the cylinder than thru the light bulb and the gap tester. Now, whe nthe bulb does not flash while rising the rpm it tells you the current is indeed flowing thru the other path. It only can flow there if the kv demand is lower than in the other path.Itonly will be lower if the timing is advnced... CONCLUSION: If the bulb does not flash the the timing advance is indeed working.
Excellent explanation!! I have it in my head from years of being around it but to make a carpenter or window washer understand how timing is the affected by pressures and vacuums in degrees is just damn good. Hi 5 Juergen!! Hi 5
