I just did the same procedure you did. Just hit 5500 miles and drained catch can before tomorrows 1st oil change. I got about the same volume as you did at roughly the same mileage interval.

I installed my catch can to the right of yours on the battery tray. I drilled and tapped a new hole and mounted the bracket lower...my catch can doesn't stick up so high like yours...mine still easy to get to. It collects alot...especially in the colder months!

Seems like an easy addition to help keep unwanted contaminants from getting into the intake as I have found to be an issue with any GM engine I have worked on. My question is that I have heard these catch cans may not be the best for colder climates like in Wisconsin where I live because of the condensation freezing and actually may clog the ventilation system. Has anybody that runs a catch can in colder climates have any issues with freezing? I love the idea of a catch can because my 2013 Silverado 2500 6.0 had a puddle of oil laying in the back of the intake manifold when I replaced the manifold gaskets and I could only imagine how much of it got splashed into the back two cylinders whenever I would press on the gas. Not to mention that having oil being burned into the combustion chamber will come into contact with your catalytic converters and may eventually cause those to go bad and cats are a very expensive repair.

Very concise, articulate description of the PCV function. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I run rx catch can . I believe they are best . I get 3 oz oil in catch can every 5000 miles in wife’s Camaro. The drain will plug in catch can and wire clears it .
Next one for my Silverado .
Debate on coking the valve stems . I used valvolane modern engine oil with low oil vapor theory. I still got 3oz. Some engines had low tension rings .
    Nice truck -

I have 45k on my 6.6 gas and haven't had any consumption issues.

Be interested in a video are how you clean the valves as you described. 14’ Cummins deleted here, but seriously considering going to a 24’ Chevy L8T or a ford 7.3L.

Oh yea that’s similar to what I would get in a Chevy. I have to tell you of an old school way to clean valves and piston tops within the combustion chamber. That is to get the engine up to optimum temperature, then with a spray bottle with just distilled water, find a place past the throttle body, or at least past the intake sensors. That you will slowly spray into the best area you can find at a high idle at high temps. That will steam clean the intake track and combustion chamber.

I’m looking to build this in a AT4X

Would be interesting to view two 6.6L engines with and without catch cans and inspect the intake valves for coking. I am likely not going to bother on my 2024 GMC I just ordered.

You don’t need to. The 2024 already have a built in catch system in place.

I have a 2024 2500 HD Silverado 6.6l gas I just took it into Chevy. It had 5 quarts in it after 4000 miles. The head of the shop tried to tell me it was normal. 😂 thoughts?

I have a 2024 12,000 miles on it hasn’t consumed any oil. I have more issues with the 10 speed transmission hard shifts. I’ve had every make truck out there in my 58 years and in my opinion it’s the worst transmission I’ve ever had in a truck.

@@rhod8201 interesting. I have the same truck and transmission and I love it. Transmission is smooth as butter. 6.6 L8T with Allison 10 speed. With any brand and any truck you can get a lemon. I would get it looked at

You have to run catch can on V6 twin turbo Raptor or the hot valves the oil sticks to and bakes the oil on valve stems..

Catching anything at all does but mean anything.
The engineers understand and have designed proper baffles and oil separators!

You don’t need a catch can for daily use . You don’t even need one for towing . It’s a NA motor by the time you’d see the benefits your taking the engine down anyways for somthing else .

Mobile 1 is Dexos gen3 which is recommended and will likely do more than the catch can. I do not believe Penzoil is Dexos gen3 certified.
