  • This is a short clip comparing night vision on the Alpex 4K LRF and Arken Zulus. The IR used was the onboard IR on the Zulus unit, this provided the IR source for both units.

    Alpex knocking spots off the competition, for their price range they've got to be the best 🙌

    sorry but why didnt you use the same ir so we can compare optics? i can see that the arken is not as clear but is it because of IR or simply the optic is better on alpex? you have a thumbs up anyway 😃

    Hi, Alpex with original Hikmicro 850 IR or another?
    Thanks

    Hey guy just got the arken off you and im enjoying it and have had much better results than that although i know it can be affected by fog moisture ect. Did you try adjusting the beem and brightness on the arken ad it could have been getting splash with it being on the gun. Also daft question as this is my 1st digital scope but what ir does the arken have as it says it can have 2. Thanks

      The Zulus is supplied as standard with an 850NM IR module . Yes moisture in. the atmosphere can dramatically reduce viewing range on smaller aperture models.

    That ir is tiny too, i hope arken makes them available as a stand alone illuminator in both 850 and 940 🤞

    Alot of comments on how the Arken image looks bad. Moisture in the air no doubt, but I think it might also have something to do with the fact the IR has a tendency to bounce straight back whereas the Alpex looks off to the side so seeing less as it's offset to the main IR beam. Also can see breath misting across the Arken. Did the lens get fogged?

    • @blackwoodoutdoors
      @blackwoodoutdoors  4 месяца назад

      I think you will find it's due to the Alpex having a huge fast lens that lets a lot of light transmission into the sensor whilst the Zulus has a tiny slow lens that restricts light transmission back to the sensor.. Obvously VCSEL Laser IR helps, but with ambient moisture limiting transmission , the smaller lens hinders it..

    • @paulh71
      @paulh71 4 месяца назад

      Yes, maybe, although the Zulus sensor is probably more sensitive, negating some of the need for a wide aperture lens. It would be interesting to see both units tested with a separate IR source mounted exactly in the middle of the two so that either one of the nv units isn't getting direct IR bounce back. At 1:54 - 1:59 you can see what appears to be smoke blowing across the Arken from the left. What was that? Certainly hindered image quality on the left side of the view for the Arken. @@blackwoodoutdoors

      Makes no difference Paul, the fact the lens is slow is the unit's achiles heel at longer ranges and in humidity and in flat open fields with little hard standing objects up close in them.....The Alpex with its much larger faster lens performs better in all these conditions and the sensor/processing also...
      Don't get me wrong the Zulus is a cracking little scope, I like them... BUT you have to be real when comparing scopes, there is so much BS out there, especially from all these promoters and people who have vested interests..... I don't have a vested interest, I have sold 2.5x more Zulus than Alpex and it's more beneficial for us to sell a Zulus than an Alpex ...
      Take both into an open field with no hard standing objects, no hedges, no trees, a flat open field... at night and compare at 300-400 yds
      Then take both at the same distance and terrain again and wait for a high moisture night
      Then anyone with any doubt, can tell me there findings, this shows true night vision ability. @@paulh71

    That Zulus is pretty good considering it's half the resolution of the Alpex 4K. I don't consider the Zulus a long range option. I have one on my .22lr and use it out to 100 yards max and it's fine, £300 cheaper than the Alpex, half weight and size and runs on 18650 flat top batteries that I have a bagfull of.

    • @blackwoodoutdoors
      @blackwoodoutdoors  6 месяцев назад +4

      Lower resolution = more sensitivity due to larger pixels gathering more IR transmission. So this is not the case, the difference is due to the lens apertures being opposite ends of the spectrum, one is very slow, one is fast.
      £250 in fact, but a totally different product, different sensor, different eye display, internal batteries and takes an external 18650 battery also...
      The Zulus is a good unit and I'll add some footage at closer range to show it soon.

      I agree with you, that picture is awful. Having said that I've not seen a video yet that does the picture quality justice. It's like it doesn't record in as good a quality as it looks to the naked eye.

    Crosshair blurred on the zulus and if thats not clear on the view given on here, now both crosshairs clear, its a better comparison,
    Ir looks like its running wide (zulus) and other more on pencil beam.
    Same mag/focus/beam set. Then it shows the difference.
    Near 20years looking in nv units,
    So can see there not set on a equal start,

    • @blackwoodoutdoors
      @blackwoodoutdoors  3 месяца назад

      Cross hair is blurred on both if you zoom in, due to any video compression , they are both at 1080p . You cannot make a digitally rendered cross hair or icon that are recorded blurry , . Yes you can adjust a diopter for your own eye, but that does not affect recorded output at all ..

    not nice to mislead people.....its so obvious you were not switching the Arken between flood and tighter beam you had the Arken on flood the whole time. if you were switching, you would see the blacked out edges like we did on the Apex....You had the A[pex on beam the whole time. naughty naughty!!!.....lol

      I sell both models and I have sold more Zulus than Alpex models, plus they cost less to purchase with equal margin.... So that is utter BS on your part. Put that with the fact I have pretty much used every bit of night vision and thermal equipment available, I'd say I have a pretty good idea of what performance and comparision is like. SO if you call being honest and actually knowing how to use a product. That is showcased it on a flat field with no hard objects in the scene for IR bounce back, with humidity in the air also...
      One lens is fast one is very slow, doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what will perform worse at night, with moisture and in a scene with nothing to bounce back IR...

      IR is great on the Zulus Dave. It's the moisture in the air, no mist, no visible rain , but humidity was high, under 200 yards its a lot less affected , but at longer range the, the damp air just kills the IR transmission back to the sensor. Closer ranges its not a problem and the image is great on the Zulus.
