The store owners have practically zero sense of self preservation. First blatantly following them around whilst staring at them autistically then acting unpleasant towards what we're at that moment paying customers. Then finally mouthing off instead of just letting them leave.

Now that i’m older rewatching this scene. They truly provoked that response. Let’s just throw a hypothetical in the air “As a business owner you’d rather engage in some ignorant people who were already aggravated because they were being racially profiled by your wife over a drink that costs a few dollars or would you just give the man his change and let him walk out the store.” Ofc he shouldn’t have lost his life for that comment but he provoked an already angry individual and fucked around and found out.
He didn't provoke that response. He was disappointed in what he saw and expressed his remorse for the other people in his life that were probably disappointed as well. Nothing he could have said should ever provoke that response, especially not what he said, which was more compassionate than antagonistic.
O Dog totally fucked up Caine's life in the opening of the movie lol was only a matter of time before the cops found him, and even if he'd bounced to Atlanta, the feds would have hunted him down.

Just minding my business having a good day till I walk into a seven eleven and get followed and watched and accused of something that’s not even in my mind and it is really aggravating.
