- The Art of Redemption: A series of videos featuring Team USA avenging each of their international losses in the 2000s leading up to the 2010 World Championships.
On September 4th, 2002. I attended a game in Downtown Indianapolis that would trigger a chain of events for remainder of the decade. On this day Manu Ginobli & Argentina defeated the United States in the Fiba World Championship. The win broke a staggering 56 game winning streak of NBA players in international competition since 1992.
The United States came back in the 2003 Fiba Americas Tournament & defeated the same Argentina team twice. These wins are rarely mentioned in history because the following year in Athens, Greece at the Olympics, Argentina shocked USA again in the Semi-finals of the 04 tournament, denying the USA a shot at the gold medal.
Following 2004, USA Basketball changed their mindsets. They have played Argentina 4 times since, once in 2006, twice in 2007, & once in 2008. All United States victories.
The game in 2002 got me really interested in International Basketball. For all the talk about European basketball, Argentina, a South American country has really been the US's real rival in the 2000s. These videos are done with the utmost respect of those countries who have been able to compete & defeat the United States.

This sport is exiting because there's so many great players and teams, watching them face off and give their best is already pretty awesome. No need for petty insults.

and Im gonna give you a fair warning also, in the last two wins the U.S. had, Argentina was playing with their B team, Ginobili and the other guys werent there, only Luis Scola, this year they are all back!!
i don't care who is ranked #1, team usa is the favorite to win the tournament. lebron, d-wade, bosh, howard, williams, paul anthony, all great young talent... plus veteran leadership and killer instinct from kobe

I think American players are and will be the best in basketball, but Argentina beat USA a couple of times because of a better team. This is 5 on 5, not 1 on 1, thats what happened in Indianapolis and Athens.

Whatever "dude", any self-respecting US B-ball fan respects and appreciate Argentina. And the few of us that like soccer, always root for either you or Brazil to bring the WC back home to the Americas. So chill out bro, you know who the top dawgs are in b-ball. I remember when i went to Spain in '86, and all their fans were like "the USSR beat you, we can beat you, you're not that good" bs. I kept trying to tell them that our pros didn't play, just college kids. They didn't believe me. Odd, eh?

redemption? this is not about redemption, no team in the world could beat a USA team with all their superstars playing, giving the necesary time to train on their camps year by year as all the other teams do it, is just not fair to make a redemption video for an unequal situation, USA has by far the best basketball in the world, for any country the reason to beat any kind of USA team is a matter of glory even if you beat a college one, something similar with baseball

Well, since you are going to pick and choose which ones count, you are 0-2 against the USA after 2004 in either the World Cup or Olympics. That's 8 years ago.

Not any more.. this are the one US win.. but in the past years many team beat usa! And they want more!! thanks to Argentina the world knows that us is not longer unbeatable

well since 2002 we're 2-2. (in 06 we played for a 3rd spot, who cares and in 08 we had no manu, so we still can get ya)
@mmp11 Manu got hurt in the actual game. Also I guess you're not including the FIBA Americas championships in 2003 and 2007 where Argentina was 0-4 against USA.

US are definitely the best national team.....but hell.......I think Euroleague is definitely far more tactically advanced than NBA,which I think is dumb,either shots from the perimeter or penetrations....

If you compare the salaries of the Spanish and Argentine players with those of the so-called Dream Team, and if you consider the lack of popularity of basketball in Spain and Argentina, I'd say the USA team does a lousy job lately...
yeah i know the USA basketball team is the best in the world, any person who think that us basketball is not the best have something wrong in his mind, but i always have a lil bit of confidence in argentina, even more when we beat you in athens 2004, i know it won't be easy, but i just have faith in my country like you with USA. Even if we loss in any moment of the olympics, and you still competing i will support USA.

I'm going to give Argentina a fair warning, it's only going to get worse for ya in 2012 when players like Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, and Blake Griffin join the likes of CP3, Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Melo and Dwight.
That was for people talkin all that shit about US Basketball vs Others. This was the forst time in a long time the US had its best player on the team. Wade, James, Anthony were no longer rookies too.
