A race driver friend (RCN) once gave me this advice: Just because you are trained to operate your vehicle at high speeds with your reflexes at the ready doesn’t mean the people around you are. Most people aren’t good at judging speed, distance and brake performance. Assume errors and adapt to react.

Its easy to blame others but driving high speeds in this ‘unrestricted’ speed areas as you call it, there is a proposed speed of 130kph, comes with a responsibility. You decide not to follow the proposed speed so you take the extra caution. Don’t get me wrong. As a dutch guy I really love the autobahn. It gives me a certain feeling of freedom, and i’m driving also 200+kph if the situation on the road let me. In my opinion, given the situation in this video, you should have lowered in speed. @ 0:12 you not slow down while you can’t see whats happening in front of the bus. So if someone drives in front of this bus he/she can’t see you either. And then in general there is a lot of traffic at this point. Just slow down a bit for a few seconds.
People like you makes it very easy for the German government to change ‘unrestricted’ speed areas into restricted ones and that would be a shame. German people can be really proud that they still have this freedom, you should cherish this.

Excessive speed is not equal to speed over the limit. I ride motorcycles, and have been doing that for more then 30 years and I also drive cars. I know , and most of us know, that if your going much faster then all the traffic your are assuming a big risk. If someone is going twice the speed of the other car it really doesn’t matter if others look in the mirror because you won’t be there when they look, but will be real near when they start to Act in accordance to there perception. He’s not to blame, he just didn’t see you. Either you learn that going that fast you cannot count on being seen, or you’ll risk a very serious accident. Maybe you should consider driving slower then? Most people do not expect someone with 250kph flying by, and judging the speed accurately just by having a short look into the mirrors is really really difficult, so people assume you are going maybe 180 and act accordingly. As a motorcyclist I am very familiar with this concept, judging speed accurately from far away is almost impossible, and if people can't judge your speed they will assume it, and people assume what they are used to seeing. If I approach an intersection with 130kph eventhough only 70 are allowed, people will think I am going 80, maybe 90 and then pull out right in front of me. Am I then mad at them? No, of course not, I am the asshole going way faster than people expect me to. And since I can't influence their expectations I instead adjust my speed.
I really have no problem with people going fast, that's most of the fun when motorcycling, but there is a place and a time to do it, so maybe try a different time or a different place. It's not that hard to not risk the lives of others, maybe give it a try. By the way, the law says that when going over 130kph you are at least at fault for 50% of the accident, no matter what happened, and I think that's a good policy, since in this case it is *at least* 50% your fault.

People are measuring the speed, distance, and time wrongly, and they jump in front of me very often. But I can understand that. No one is perfect. I was going almost 60-80 km/h faster than them. There are many inexperienced drivers on the road and there is no driving school that will "teach experience". As you said, 130 is recommended speed limit" and if everyone is going that fast everything is okay. If you are doubling this speed with that kind of traffic, on a corner... only you are the danger. Not really. Germany has an ENTIRE different culture of highway driving than America does. You are expected and legally required to ONLY use the left lane for passing, and when you pass you are legally and morally REQUIRED to use your mirrors. How was the person abiding by the law and doing what literally everyone else does stupid compared to the guy who didn't even check his mirrors until the last second? German drivers are WAY better than American drivers, especially on the highway. So while it might be dumb in America, even if legal, in Germany doing this is very normal and almost expected to go a bit over the recommended speed.

While I can understand the excitement to drive unrestricted with such a car the law in germany clearly states that your speed shall be proportionate and appropriate to the road, weather and traffic conditions. We have a lot of older drivers here that will do exactly what you experienced here. My tip for you: go to a racetrack. It is safer and more fin for everyone. If you go 250+ and the other driver 130 (common recommended speed on german highways) it would be like hitting a wall with 120 km/h. Would you drive 120 km/h if every now and then there is a good chance a wall will pop up in front of you?

Just so that you can warn them that you are driving at a high speed, because honestly, in your mirrors you can't see really good if someone is driving 250 or 180.

The right hand lane is full of slower moving traffic, and it's blatantly obvious that sooner or later someone is going to pull out without looking, so why on Earth is he doing this speed? He is quite correct that the other guy should have checked his mirrors - that goes without saying - but he is just as much to blame, because he should have slowed down FAR sooner to keep the differential speed as low as possible, and expected the other chap to pull out instead of assuming he was going to stay put. It cannot be the first time this has happened to him, so the only logical conclusion is that he never learns a thing.
They're a pious lot, these fast drivers: it's never their fault, and it never occurs to them that it takes two to tango. These situations can easily be avoided if people would just use a bit of common sense and drive at speeds more suitable for the conditions. Poor use of speed, non-existent anticipation and zero situational awareness: this is what passes for good driving in Germany, is it?

It isn't hard for somebody to look in their mirrors... Doesn't matter what speed I am going, I always keep track of cars around me, coming up on me, passing me, ahead of me. This kind of situation is easily avoidable by other people knowing how to drive.
