I have a theory on all the inaccurate GD hitboxes: In Celeste (a platformer game), when running off of a ledge you have 5 extra frames, in the air, to jump before you start to "fall off." This is colloquially known as "Coyote Time". The devs have said that they implemented this, and other features, to give the player the feeling that they are in perfect control of their character. TAS's (Tool Assited Speedruns, look it up) heavily abuse these kinds of features. I believe that RobTop made the hitboxes smaller and less accurate with the same concept in mind: to give the player the feeling of total control over their icon/ship/etc., especially considering how fast-paced this game can get. It would be very frustrating if you had to perform every single jump and click frame-perfect.
Major props to the editors for that loading animation when Juni said stop. I actually had to rewind after it loaded because I thought I missed something xD
