Hey alex. your one of the best reiewers out there . I have had my 2017 Elantra for a year now. SE with pop and tech packages . little over 14000 miles. 0 problems. one big requirement for my new car was a real automatic transmission. that eliminated lots of cars! No more cvt for me. Nightmare ! over ten thousand dollar repair quote! I like this car just fine and LOVE this automatic transmission !
What car did you have that needed a new $10k CVT? I had bad luck with CVTs as well, so when I was shopping for a new car the last time, I decided I wouldn't consider any car with a CVT. I ended up with a 2018 Elantra SEL.
Had one of the last models for a rental once. Not bad. Fun to drive and these things NEVER run out of gas. Excellent fuel economy and only 25 bucks to fill them up.
Update on my 2017 Elantra.....just hit 100.000 miles!! 0 repairs, 0 issues!! 1 transmission service at 50.000 miles, 1 coolant service at 62.000 miles, 2 batteries, thats it. Even the brake pad are still good. Very happy with it. Bought a new 2021kia K5 GT LINE with premium package in june 2021. Very nice car. I'm using the Elantra for my 80 mile round trip to work! Will keep the mileage down on the new car.
I meant a good commuter car. Not sporty, not fast, not flashy; just a good car. This should be the Corolla of compact cars instead of the shit plastic box that is the Corolla.
@@aaronphillips5197 It's fine. It's cheap, good on gas, reliable, and comfortable. If that's all you need, it's perfectly acceptable and far better than the ecoboxes of yesterday

Hey Alex, long time follower of your videos including The Mountain Garden. I was hoping you could begin to include a demonstration/explanation of the Driver Assist features in your videos. There is considerable differences in these systems, and it's become a huge point of differentiation for my personal shopping. For example, the Hyundai Elantra appears to be able to keep the lane like the Honda Civic, unlike the Fords that only correct the lane departure. For the Adaptive Cruise Control, perhaps an explanation of speeds active, and smoothness/reaction times. Thanks for making some of the best review videos out there!
Another great review! I really think you should do a separate review on 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport. I think it will compare more favorably to the new Civic EX-T and Mazda3.
Great review as always. But, what is wrong with your camera this time? The picture has very obvious distortion throughout the video, especially on the right half. Please fix it, and we can all enjoy your wonderful review again.

I have '16 Elantra. I never use Eco mode and I still get 40mpg highway nearly all the time. In summer heat I get about 38 highway. combined city/highway about 33. I have no complaints about fuel economy.
Jessica Murphy ... I think the GT hatchback would be perfect for commuting. And the hatchback makes it very versatile. Like a compact CUV but better mpg.
I just bought this car 2017 Elantra Limited and slow it isnt and this is a very comfortable car and it handles superb in cornering and handling. There was no body roll and have no idea what your talking about performance wise. This car definitely out classes previous elantra models from 2011 on. sorry but your 0-60 time is not accurate on my car. I dont know what you were driving as a test car but my car is a loaded leather seated rocket and performs out standing! Especially when I use it in sport mode.
Well all of that is welcome news to me. I bought a '16 back in January because the deals were phenomenal. Paid $16.5k on a $21K list priced car. In 3 yrs I'll seriously consider this generation.
My wife loves the car, but I have one complaint, about a big guy like me. (Not fat, just big) it is very hard to get in and out of. I hit my head every time I get into the car. It is peppy, the ride is excellent, the gas mileage is fantastic. and the warranty is great. I have always been a Toyota or Honda fan, but they cost so much more with the same technology.
Cars with trunks have release levers on the inside since generally the only way out is through the trunk. A car with a hatch doesn't need one since you can just climb over the seat if necessary
suezotiger ah ok, I've not had a sedan in years. I don't know if it's required in Australia to have a latch. Alex seemed to get stuck pretty good in the mini a couple of days ago :p
I drove this car and almost convince me,but rather i got the ex optima,i like this car and pretty sure if iam going to buy for my son or downgrade my ride i’d go for this one,
I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. I would stay away. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of bombs. I bought it used so am only covered up to 60000 miles. I said to Hyundai ok if this is so normal cover my car to the full 10 year 100000 mile warranty. They just keep giving me the run around. I mean if there is no issue with the car it would not cost them anything to give the full powertrain warranty. I have no confidence in the longevity of this engine and unfortunately it looks like they are putting these in more models like the Kona. Also I think these engines are in the Kia Forte and other Kia models.
Google million mile Elantra. I have a 2017 Elantra. 75,000 miles, zero problems. It uses no oil, yes they don't seem to like the cold, the heater takes a while to work and I've detected the odd tapping on startup but that doesn't mean the engines are bad, it's just a characteristic.
Well it is an economy car; you can't compare this to a BMW or Lexus by any measures. Compared to a Corolla or Focus, I think it is quite similar. It is unavoidable to have plastics dominate in these non-premium compact cars without prices becoming a major constraint.
It's an attractive car all around, inside and out. But the face to me looks too much like a Dodge Dart, which i don't like at all. The headlights and "mouth" are basically the same shape. It's definitely one of the more sexy and mature looking compact sedans on the market and also backed by one of the best warranties.
I don't think I agree with you on this review, Alex. The hard touch plastics are disappointing, the styling is on the boring side (specially on the rear and sides) and this definitely does not win over the Mazda3's styling. Interior styling is a step back from the last generation.
Hyundai Elantra sells -43.6% in April 2016 and -34.2% in 2016 compared to 2015. I have always a question: a lot of cars receive good comments from auto reviewers (like Mazda 6, CX-5, or new Elantra), but the sales number are extremely poor compared to Corolla, Camry, Rav4, CRV these boring models. For example, Rav4 has been on top SUV sale for 6 months surpassing CRV and Escape, but on all kinds of auto reviews, this vehicle is below average. I do believe the normal buyers are the car reviewers share different opinions.
The reason why the new Elantra isn't selling as good as last model is because Hyundai drop the ball with this car. They made the car with a "weak" engine, cheap hard plastic door panels and not as value friendly as before. The new Civic, Mazda 3 and Cruze really put out great competitive cars at great prices while the Hyundai Elantra just felt comfortable doing subtle changes that didn't take them above the competition.
After owing an elantra 2017 se MPG sucks. I get 25 average to as low as 24. Too much hard plastic, boring inside , manual e brake that eats lots of space, not a very dood ride, noisy and the worst, base models have to theft deterrent!!!! Mine got stolen so easily by just putting a screwdriver and turning the steering wheel back a forth until the lock inside broke. You'll be surprise that on 2017 there are still cars without that feature. The good about the is that it's been reliable.
My 2018 Elantra gets 36 mpg and i don’t even use the high way most weeks.. I leave the car in eco mode it’s not the fastest car in the world it’s got average speed for a car it’s price and class as a commuter car I don’t have the base model and I love the car potential theft of the car I can believe with how light and empty the doors feel tho... definitely not trying to get Tboned in this car lol
@@TrumpsaTerroristChangeMyMind I try eco and still get 26 mpg max. I bought two brand new hyundais that same day in 2017 since they were the one that gave me the best deal on features I wanted. I currently own a Sonata 2.4 sport and Elantra. The sonata is by far the worst one, I get 19 MPG, now that one it's more comfortable, nicer interior larger bit still that mpg sucks. My old Jeep wrangler with all terrain got 16 mpg with and 5 speed and v6. All RUclips reviewers says the same thing about Kia and Hyundai, that their MPG sucks and I have two vehicle to testified. Now I do drive mostly stop and go which no I know that normal engines are not good, but still my moms Corolla gets 28, my coworkers civic gives 30 on the se commute.
I completely disagree on your opinion on the exterior styling vs the civic. The Civic looks way better everywhere. But i respect that its your opinion.
The Elantra is more bland but it's very mature, not as futuristic as Civic, which has a wide rear-end that takes some getting used to. Like you said it depends on your personal style, Honda did take some risk and I think it will pay off. Hyundais Elantra looks more grown up, and they will sell a lot of them. I've test driven both, I slightly prefer the Civics interior & available turbo and Apple Car Play
If you're financing through Toyota Financial services, know that we are no longer allowed to use our credit cards to pay for our carpayments, RIDICULOUS!!!! If you want to use your credit card, you can only do it through Western Union which charges a 27 dollar fee, depending on your car payment and as much as 80 dollars if you want to pay cash. Terrible idea to charge your customers such insane amounts in order to pay their bills. Because they're afraid we will accumulate points. That is your only option if you want to use your credit card. WHY?????
Watched just after the Sentra turbo review. I think the Nissan is a better deal - fewer features, but more power, six speed manual and a bit more space.
Miguel Serna it's a nice car for any age. 18 to 80. Lots of older wealthy people are satisfied with a reasonable car that's not too expensive also. And it a lot of car for around 20 grand. Love mine.

This isn't a totally new model, the chassis/unitbody is the same as the last model.
Basically just a more extensive refresh.
The unibody is all new. Probably not a single component of the frame that could be swaped with last yrs.
***** Not true.
What's a Knee-sun? You mean a Nissan?
Had this car 2 years now. Is it fun : yes
Light enough to sideways: yes
Cheap: yes
:reliable and sexys: yes
Fast: meh
That's why I got the Elantra Sport version.
@@jermainejpshepherd2778 yea smart move. I'm buying a supercharged brz now. It's not worth modding the elantra. However o did do some tasteful changes
I know Civis is better, but I love Elantra.
I've test driven both, I slightly prefer the Civics interior & available turbo and Apple Car Play
look at Alex taking risks for us. .. the exclusive trunk rating. .. smh
I test drove one of these today. Terrible acceleration. It couldn't get out of its own way.
Wow this car proves that honda and toyota are ripping us off 😆.
I think the Nissan is a better deal - fewer features, but more power, six speed manual and a bit more space.
i mean for a college car its nice :-)
Miguel Serna it's a nice car for any age. 18 to 80. Lots of older wealthy people are satisfied with a reasonable car that's not too expensive also. And it a lot of car for around 20 grand. Love mine.
i don't get it right now why did the title said "2017" if the video was published on 2016 this don't make any sense
you guys crack me up the way you complain about 22, 23 thousand dollars for a new car being a lot of money lol. this is 2017, not 1987.you better stick to used cars if that kind of money bothers you.
Nice copy of the Ford Taurus grill
