You can hate Arod all you want, but everything Mike said is true. Alex was targeted by baseball to be made the black sheep. It was easy to. Everyone already hated him for the money and being a Yankee. The lengths they went to take him down proves it all.
Targeted how? He was the biggest asshole (love him as a commentator after baseball tho) during that era. He admits that. It puts a target on him. BUT he was NOT picked out of a crowd and singled out. Not even close. Look how many people that went down. It's easy to cherry pick and say he was targeted but thats only because it was a bigger deal being that he was the biggest baseball star in that moment. He was considered the best player of that era. He was also labeled the biggest asshole of that era. Let's stop pretending he wasnt who he was during that time just because he has done a tremendous job reviving his career and how he is looked at. Stop it. Francesa is just kissing ass because they are friends. FOH.
He made MLB look bad. That was his largest crime in the eyes of baseball.

SO many people complaining about Mikes ego. Listen, the guy is not just good at his specialty, hes great. And when youre great at something its hard to appear humble or modest and when you try you lose your edge that provoked the criticism in the first place. So I say eat ‘em all alive Mike! I have watched both Mike and Arod for years, often having my problems with each. This was one of the very best broadcasts I have heard with each.
Kids now don't realize how big basketball was in NYC in the 90s. Mike is right, Riley was a God in this town. Nothing was better than Jordan, Ewing and Miller in those Eastern Conference championship games.

Mike can be a jerk and has a huge ego (which by now has been well earned), but he's always been genuine and real, whether you love him or hate him...... dude doesn't put on an act, and he never panders or tries to be liked by folks..... in some ways he is similar to President Trump...... whether you like or hate their style, you have to respect the genuine nature and the balls they have to do things in the way they do them ....ultimately, in the end, even those who dislike them tend to come over to their side ...and ARod is a brilliant guy, not just as an athlete, but as an intellectual individual...... as a young athlete in school coming up, he wasn't viewed as the best athlete, but rather the best 'student-athlete'..... dude was running circles around everyone athletically while also getting straight As in prep schools academically ...... he is a jock/nerd combo at the highest level .... the guy is gonna be hugely successful in anything he gets involved in
Whether you like him or not, Mike Francesa is the best in his field.....

This is a great interview. Props for fitting Francesa and Arod’s ego into the same room. Kidding aside I always felt Arod was a nice guy who really cared about all his teammates. I felt Jeter was a prima dona who only surrounded himself with certain guys and formed a click. Watch the final out of the 09 WS, all the guys on the field ran to hug Arod not Jeter
Because the team was composed of a bunch of free agents like a-rod whereas Jeter stood for the old guard and the Torre ways
Something never felt right with the never ending Jeter worship vs. constant ARod bashing. When I see the narrative that Jeter was such a "team guy" and "all about winning" constantly being pumped out there when ARod was the best shortstop in the sport, easily better than Jeter, and agreed to move to third for the good of the team... my antennas go up. Tells me the Yankees were more interested in making Jeter the icon of the franchise and placating his ego than winning baseball games by the mid-2000s.
Arod embraced being a Yankee but he was never a yankee until 09 i femt. He was like a mercenary because Arod trashed Jeter so when he joined the yankees arod had to smooth things over. That's why he moved to 3rd and respected the hierarchy. Had he never bashed Jeter there's maybe no issue

Alex actually played good against us in the 2000 alcs, he played good for us in 04 especially vs boston, it was 05 06 07 n a no 08 that hurt alex legacy. 09 he got over that hump n than never had anothet good post season... however....
2015 was the best ywar for alex as a yankee i feel. I think that was his redemption season. 09 n 15 define arods legacy in pinstripes, n so hes remembered n accepted into the yankee family. Without those 2 seasons, his two mvps here mean nothing.
