  • The Kumo Gassen is a spider fighting tournament held every year in Kajiki just north of Kagoshima in Japan. Held on the 3rd Sunday of May every year for over 400 years, this traditional event is something to see. Female argiopes are trained, sometimes for months, before the tournament in hopes of becoming the next champion. Trainers from 5 to over 75 bring a minimum of 3 spiders to battle it out in order to name the next queen.

That kind of spider is a reject here in the philippines. That spiders are weak and are easy to find.
What we use here in spider fighting are a smaller species of orb weaver. Thise spiders are srtictly nocturnal and has great skill of camouflage so it its very hard to find. But even with their size, they can take down a bigger opponents like that spiders used in this video. They are very aggresive in fighting and what is the best with them is they are non-venomous because thier main weapon is their strong silk

Spiders are pretty amazing. I wonder how many accidental spider fatalities occur at such an event, or even how many spiders escape and run off into the wild before the festival goers are done with them.
Those are rather pretty spiders, kind of like bumble bees. Apparently a bumble bee can travel 4 million miles on a gallon of nectar, that's pretty swell.
