It was always funny to listen to people talk about how much of a waste playing video games is when I knew for a fact they spent hours of their day watching pure garbage on TV, and this was before all the time sucking, addictive apps existed in the palm of our hands. The irony only got stronger with time.
I knew a guy who was an abusive and violent drunk that laughed at me for playing games, claiming I was wasting my life. Pretty sure he's either in jail or homeless now. The irony is not lost on me.

Calling video games, lazy is ironic because it does require a lot more engagement than watching a TV show. It’s to the point that if I’ve worked all day, sometimes I’m not up to playing anything because it requires enough effort that I don’t feel up to it. That’s not even mentioning the most complicated games like fighting games. That’s why some people play games casually.
Nevermind stuff like mil-sim games, like Arma, try managing your base on low sleep lol. I was on the "night shift" of watching the groups base and that shit was a chore, especially if you had to fly or drive anywhere, without breaking the vehicles.
Admittedly, I also enjoy games because I get to save scum and redo my fuckups.

I once had a college roommate who said I was immature for playing video games. They later got kicked out of the college dorms like a mature person for underaged alcohol possession.
My friends wife divorced him over gaming and staying home to paint model trains to relax. She was toxic and made him believe it was all his fault. She told him he made her do it and left her no choice. He's been left not wanting to date or try a relationship ever again. It disappoints me to see how selfish most women are nowadays!

Gaming isn't even a male centric hobby. It's a silly notion, and it only becomes true because people keep repeating it to the point women don't even bother trying, and miss out a lot. It's like only watching VFX overloaded, action overloaded hollywood movies and saying watching movies is a male/kid centric hobby. Not only is it completely unrepresentative of the whole medium as a whole, the implication that women can't enjoy an avengers movie or an APEX legends game is equally absurd. It's just that there are some much more universally enjoyable experiences than competitive gaming if you actually look for them.

I honestly love the simplicity of single life, gaming whenever i feel like it, helping my ma around the house, and hanging with friends on weekends.
My mom was the gamer and eventually talked my dad to getting us a console when I was a kid. Got us a SNES and me my mom and brother all loved playing Mario kart together. My mom also would play Donkey Kong Country when no one else was playing it. Then she eventually talked him into getting us a Nintendo64 and my dad finally tried playing and absolutely loved Star Fox. If he wasn't so busy with work and family, I bet he would have eventually been a full fledged gamer.

I heard a long time ago that the reason for this interaction is neuroticism. Women are, on average, more neurotic than men ( they worry). So, if you end up with a particularly neurotic woman: her instincts are screaming because her man is sitting around: not working and providing. Also insecurity. They feel like they're competing with the game for your attention, and they feel threatened by it. Its bonkers either way.

Honestly, I think a healthy way to go about it is to share the hobby- not by getting them to play it with you but to try to find a game you enjoy playing that might be fun to watch and chat about if they have no interest in actually playing. @@JetBalrog agreed from experience cause they were not interested at all in playing with or watching the game. Having them sit next to or near me watching their show while I played was a good compromise that worked. Do it now in my current relationship we share our hobby tike, when I want to play music or a game she'll throw on a show or her artwork

I really do hate the idea that everything we men 'do' needs to serve some purpose, be productive or otherwise generate value for others. We don't. So long as our hobbies do not consume us to a degree that jeopardizes health, relationships or responsibilities, nobody has any right to complain. To me, this seems to be but one more example of men still being expected to perform traditional gender roles. Be it conscious or not, a worryingly large amount of women still seem to view men as mere success objects and "playing around" is wasting time he could spend serving her needs.
My mom and dad were the ones who got me into video games, so i don't know what some of these ladies are on about. it's just a hobby

A friend of mine's girlfriend always hated him playing video games. I ended up telling her that she knows where he's at, what he's doing, and who he's talking to. Welp, he stopped playing video games as much and went out more. Ended up cheating on her. Piece of crap move, and he's an ex friend, but that's what can happen.
Well, it seems to me that he at least proved HER wrong and YOU right. She wanted him to go out more and do "Chad things" and that is EXACTLY what he did! He went out and acted like a total "Chadbro douche" & gave her the toxic relationship that she so desperately craved!

Imo, making him stop doing what he enjoys doing, simply because she hated it for some stupid selfish reason, just made him more aware of how toxic she was and how she wasn't going to accept him unless he changed himself in ways she demanded. Him going out like she wanted him to and cheating on her was a dick move, sure. But she should've expected that. Whatever your gender, you shouldn't force people to change for your own selfish reasons. You're just asking to get hurt.

I work 65+ hours a week, on some weeks I work 6 days a week, 13 hour days. 65 hours is just the bare minimum. I get to play games an absolute max of 5hours a week.
This is why I broke up with my previous GF. I got home a bit early, took care of things and sat down to play. She came over, got passed and dumped tea on my $300 keyboard and ripped wires out of the back of my pc. I took her keys to my place away and kicked her out.

Just some facts for all the women that think gaming is bad. Violent crime has dropped significantly since the invention of video games, SA crimes have dropped significantly since the invention of video games, non-violent thefts have dropped significantly since the invention of video games, and keeping all of that in mind, the more widespread and available games are the less those things happen. So when I hear "guys that play games give me the ick" all I hear is "I want more violent criminals and thieves in society, and I want them to take me by force" which gives me the ick.

My girlfriend used to hang out with me and go on dates but didn't really play video games. She learned about my favorite video game series, Monster Hunter, and bought herself a console to learn it and play with me... that was 7 years ago. She's now my wife
Honestly people who aren’t familiar need to take a real hard look at video games before judging it as either a waste of time or brainrot.
I get that “gamers” often spend way too much time on them and not out in the real world, but there is SO much more to them than non gamers realize.
Games are a combination of literature, art, and music that you can directly interact with, but for some reason the interactivity suddenly makes it all evil or something in the eyes of some people.
As long as someone's hobbies aren't objectively bad/harmful (getting constantly stoned, graffiti, gambling, etc) I couldn't care less. Video games, sports, hiking, whatever. Do what you enjoy.
In a ton of 3 year plus relationships, one of men's biggest issues is that they no longer have any free time. Even without kids, it ends up that plans are made involving you without asking, a list of tasks are always on the fridge and simple things like gaming are held over the poor guy's head. Men can also do it to their GFs. If the person you love has a hobby or passion, you have to make it your business to be supportive. People like that have no idea how much fun it can be watching and hanging out with someone playing a great game lol
As a 55 year old Englishman who has been gaming since I was 8 (yes,there were games back then..if we could dodge the dinosaurs long enough to actually play them), may I say that we do not care a jot if "wimmin" find it,or us unattractive. Thank you.

There are some women who say that man are depressed and don't share sad feelings because we don't make ourselves a safe community to do so. But they can't realize our place to share those feelings and releve ourselves of them is gaming, and they try to shoo us away from the place we feel most safe at.
Now yes having an addiction to gaming is something else and is bad, but gaming in moderation to escape reality for a bit should be okay.

I go to work, I pay my pills, I feed my cats, I help with the horses, I help repair the barn roof, I help run electrical fencing, I take care of a psycho rooster when needed to... Videogames got me interested in storytelling, tested my beliefs, showed me worlds that could never exist yet I can still interact with, let me live lives I will never lead, fueled my interest in cars and their mechanical design, and even taught me how to drive a manual transmission before I actually got a car that had one.
Don't tell me it's a waste of time when one single game kept me distracted just long enough to where I no longer wanted to swallow a bullet.
