The "death star" was one of the planet's moons, Dalamud, which was actually a seal created by an ancient empire to seal Bahamut away. The Garlean Empire (one of the major enemies of the game) decided they wanted to bring the moon down upon Eorzea to "cleanse" it. The Eorzean Alliance were hoping to stop the process of the moon crashing down, but failed.

@@donaldcurry1020 In fact it IS the 2.0 cinematic. A Realm Reborn is juste 15 seconds where you see the Warriors of Light going on their chocobos. Flame of Truth is a cinematic you can see by beating the Coil of Bahamut 11. So it is ARR cutscene really. I'm a 1.0 player so i can say that.
Throughout the original game, Louisoix(the old "wizard") was your mentor character. If you were attached to anyone, it was him. Dalamud was summoned by the main antagonist and we failed to stop him. Once SE decided their direction with the game it became larger(got closer to the world) with each update right until the end, which is when the video takes place. The people that were teleported away were the players, Louisoix sent us 5 years into the future when the rereleased A Realm Reborn takes place.
They just keep the comments/likes disabled on all they videos they upload. Also if you want to watch them all in the correct order FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward Trailer would be next followed by Stormblood then Shadowbringers.
The best part: You get to fight Bahamut at the end of A Realm Reborn. He's just as imposing as this cut scene and uses that final attack. It's terrifying and it'll make you pee a little.
The "World Thing" was Dalamud, some kind of Prison in which Bahamut was sealed away. This was a Cinematic SquareEnix has shown after shuting Final Fantasy XIV down to rework the Game because it was a really bad MMO. The Moon Dalamud was seen in the World of Final Fantasy XIV first as little Red dot but getting bigger Week after Week.
This cinematic was later released shortly before Heavensward, as Flames of Truth was a Coil of Bahamut spoiler after beating one of the last bosses before finally facing Bahamut. Just thought I'd throw this out here. This is a separate cutscene compiled with the Realm Reborn opener, however.
Hah! It’s interesting watching people who don’t know anything about ff14 watch this video. You guys are cute! If you guys want a little summary ff14 was a failure of a launch title that garnered resounding criticism and hatred. Taking a risk Square Enix decided to rebuild the game from scratch, they listened to fans, studied world of Warcraft (nice catch Jane!) and hired a new director, all the while still supporting the original game and giving all the players a free subscription. When it relaunched it was a massive success and is still growing in subscribers. I am a biased fan obviously, but the game is really fun and the new director has done a lot of good for Square Enix lately. This video was a combination of the opening movie for the game. Here we see bahamut basically destroying the old version of the game. Fun fact, players had no idea what was going to happen (but they knew the game was ending) and on the last day they saw the giant sphere in the sky get closer and closer until this video suddenly played. The second part, where the dude defeats bahamut, is a reward players got from completing a raid in the new version of the game.
God damn you guys are behind in regards to the Final Fantasy XIV trailers! Here, react to the following three in the series of expansions, you won't be disappointed, I promise :) *Heavensward* : ruclips.net/video/4phUCJlomPo/видео.html *Stormblood* : ruclips.net/video/Jt1h1MinlLI/видео.html *Shadowbringers* : ruclips.net/video/h1OUNHqp3BE/видео.html
Bahamut is a recurring summon in final fantasy and nearly always one of the most powerful beings in the world, though whether he's good or bad can change, and some games even have multiple versions of him in the same game.
Just wanna point out, that first cinematic, End of an Era, played when the original FF14's servers SHUT DOWN, and Bahamut was sealed inside that giant orb to initially act as a power source for the ancient civilization.
This cinematic for FF14 is my favorite next to the new Shadowbringers trailer. The visuals and music at least to me have always been amazing. Not enough people have patience for storyline in a MMO, but FF14 felt good. You got it, BAHAMUT!
3 years late..... but.... 2:51 "Wow.. this is crazy.. its like a movie..." Me: Oh its just getting started..... *sniffles and reaches for a tissue* This Cinematic will ALWAYS make me cry and give me goosebumps/feels.... i still remember the day we first saw it when 1.0 was shut down and the message from the dev's saying "we will return"
I played XIV since the Beta, and at the end of 1.0 when they were shutting the servers down, they had monsters invading the cities and Garleans *enemies* attacking everywhere as Dalamud *bahamuts prison* was falling to Eorzea. They shut down the servers, then posted this video right afterwards to give us players closure, and a lead into ARR. Louis teleports the Warriors of Light, to an alternate Crystal Universe, in which ARR takes place.
That's basically the Video sequence every player saw when they shut down the servers of the original Version. Basically some ancient people who were really good with technology didn't manage to defeat the dragon Bahamut, but they managed to trap him into an artificial moon called Dalamud that kept Bahamut locked away for millenia. Well... When ff14 relaunched the scene you witnessed was titled "the 7th catasrophe" in the game henceforth. If you liked that scene see what happens afterwards in ff14. ;)
Did you guys know that the dragon's name was Bahamut? If not that's a really cool coincidence since in the game he is actually named Bahamut! Loved the reaction, keep it up!
I mean, 'Bahamut' has been a thing since ancient Sumeria - it's where Square got the name (actually most of their big bads are from mythology. Shiva is Indian, Ifrit is Arabian, etc.) and so it's been used in dozens of series over time as "The biggest, baddest, most ultimate giga-dragon."
Just found the vid, but in short, in relation to the comment stuff, it was probably disabled because at the launch of FFXIV, the game was such a horrible mess that they brought in a new game director, Naoki Yoshida to right the ship. Yoshida's solution was to quite literally burn the old game down and start anew. Hence that cataclysmic event. They literally made what is essentially a whole new game that transitioned from old to new in that cinematic. Prior to that, the players largely were...less than happy with the game. However, the happy ending is that Yoshida seems to have knocked it out of the park and the game is now giving WoW a bit of a nosebleed.
In case you wonder at all why its called "Final Fantasy" Is because when the idea came to make the game Squaresoft had just filed bankrupt So they wanted to make one more game before they lost it all. They called it Final fantasy. Because they thought it was the last fantasy game they were going to make....boy were they wrong.
@Ajan Navarro 4.56 comes about about the same time, and i expect a lot of explanation of whats going on in the trailer 3.56 was a lot of story to set the stage for Stormblood, I expect 4.56 will be similar.

The original trailer shows what happens to that "Team" of people you saw in the fight. This one shows what caused the world to look the way it does in the current game. Either way both are great trailers.

That was a way to kill the game and later remaking it into a real reborn
