Ji-uchi Taiko drills for Shime Daiko

  • In this video, we go through the four main types of ji-uchi (backbeat)
    Gobu gobu, Shichi-san, Mitsu-uchi and Matsuri
    Drill 1 shows how to practice playing through each of these in succession at the same tempo.
    Drill 2 shows how to practice each of the ji-uchi leading with both the right and left hands.
    Recommended metronome app I am using in this video is 'The Metronome' by Soundbrenner, and can be downloaded from the Apps store or Google play at:

    Ok these get progressively harder. Love it.
    The double hits and the switching hurt my brain but super fun.

    Some of the drills sounds similar to the rhythm to punching speed bag in boxing.
