- The Ironman 70.3 World Championship. Most seasons it's a goal of ours to qualify which allows us a chance to travel to epic international destinations and do what we love: triathlon.
Taupō, New Zealand has been on our list since 2019 and the wait to qualify turned in to five years.
While we quietly set the goal to qualify at Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga, we didn't say much about it in the lead up and hoped everything on race day would go in our favor.

Caitlin began her triathlon career in 2012 on a fat tire bike and no swim background. She met Tiffany when she was training for Ironman Texas 2013. Accompanying Tif through most of the training (minus most of the swimming), and serving as a finish line catcher volunteer, catching Tif at the end of her first Ironman, it didn't take long for the triathlon bug to bite. She completed her first full Ironman in 2015 and added another in 2017 - crossing the finish line both times hand-in-hand with the love of her life.
Tiffany's triathlon life started in 2009 with The Rookie Tri at the Texas Ski Ranch. From the time she crossed the finish line, she was hooked. Since then, she has added 3 full Ironmans to her resume' (Texas 2013, 2015, 2017). But it's the 70.3 distance that has been her favorite calling. Since her first Ironman 70.3 in Galveston in 2010, Tiffany has crossed the Half Ironman finish line more than 25 times, including three Ironman 70.3 World Championship appearances - with Caitlin - in South Africa, 2018, and St. George, Utah, 2021 and Lahti, Finland in 2023.
Team Saunders is documenting the journey of training, life and taking on new challenges along the way. A pair of Age Group triathletes, they hope to motivate and inspire others to find their own challenges.

One of the best triathlon videos I have seen all year. I love watching all of the epic workouts the pros do, but this is one of the most relatable videos. Hearing you talk about the financial concerns of traveling across the world for a race is awesome. So happy for both of you - your hard work and dedication to this wonderful, painful sport has definitely paid off. Way to go!!!!!
Thank you, James! We’re fortunate we get to do this, but it certainly makes us have to have the conversations and make decisions that are best for us. However, it is true. We don’t want to pass up an opportunity for what we love in a place we have always wanted to visit. Sacrifices coming, more than just for training. Appreciate the kind comment and support, always!

I am kicking myself after watching this video. I always thought if I didn't get top 5 in my age group there was no chance of me getting a slot. I wish I had gone to the awards for the two 70.3s I have done. I just may have gotten one. I really want to qualify, so that I can experience the atmosphere. I will keep trying. You both are an inspiration. Thank you for making content and providing information for others looking to do the same.
Yeah! You never know how far it will go. If you’re interested, it’s worth sitting through it. But be prepared for all the emotions. It’s intense. Good luck!
