You simply could not jab against Leroy because of this spammable move. At -1 (blocked df1) it was still Leroys turn. db1 crushed all highs i10 CH string beat everything except jabs and crushes. And b1+2 beat all crushes and opposing df1. Massive damage.
I mean tbf it was at the start, yes they were wrong but I think claiming it's too early to call something broken at an early stage of a character release is ok. If they wouldn't admit he was broken at all then I would agree it's pretty stupid.

It still pisses me off how they made him this busted *on purpose* They saw T pain cosplaying Leroy, they saw the overwhelmingly positive response to his visual design from the community, and they decided to make him _overwhelmingly_ broken on release to live up to the 'hype'. They have Mishima Star on the balance team, a man who knows what good tekken is and how it should be balanced. And they expect us to believe that he saw these numbers on Leroy and told them they'd designed a balanced character? They knew *exactly* what they were doing, and tarnished one of the greatest visual designs in tekken history forever with their terrible balancing of him.
imo if leroy (and fahkumram) hadnt happened 7 probably would still have enough momentum for a S5 proper. i feel like S3 killed so much goodwill that the game had earned up to that point, and S4 did little to bring any of it back.
I stopped playing the game during season 3 because of Leroy and Fahk. To this day I'll only play 1 match with either. I'll never rematch. I will always teabag. I will never skip my cutscenes. I want all Leroy and Fahk mains to feel unwanted and consider becoming an hero

Most people are really scared of Leroy's past, I don't think that he's that big of a problem today. You also barely see him in tournaments. When launch Leroy hit, me and a couple buddies played right away. They played Leroy non-stop when he came out and since I was so inflexible, I just played my usual Miguel. They beat me up so bad with Leroy, by the time I got online to play ranked, I was so used to Leroy and he didn't seem like a problem at the time. Think my friends innoculated me against him. 😅
to this day i still say, bandai namco saw the overwhelming positive reception to leroy and felt they had no choice but to give the people their moneys worth. the character that put me on a months hiatus after 2 and a half years straight of tekken 7.

With the Leroy d+1+2 not being steppable as easily on P1, would there be a desync if both players were player 2 on their screen, but you would appear as player 1 on leroy's screen?
Online you can't tell if the opponent is on P1 or P2 the camera changes for each player. It wouldn't desync and you CAN step from crouch (with hitbox) The game doesn't just break if someone steps into the screen from crouch
@TheDragonkingboss what's stopping you from stepping into the screen on P1 is bad control mapping logic; it's still possible at a technical level, there's just no combination of player inputs that can lead to it. the CPU could probably do it for instance

The release of Leroy and the decision to give most cast wall carry combo was the point were the game was no longer enjoyable for me. Fahkumram was the nail in the coffin.

I would highly recommend people to pick up this character now ( season 5.0). He is well balanced, his has very clear weaknesses and a very distinct and attractive style of play. I recently started playing after 4 years and tried him as my current main and its been fun.
@@asianbabyboy I'm a bit late to the conversation but i've been learning leroy and in my opinion he doesnt have clear weakness due to being all-round (just like Jin or Julia don't have weaknesses) but the move that's been carrying me alot is b1+2, this move simply denies most of the offensive options your opponent has, but its weakness is terrible range and poor recovery so if you can predict him doing this move, one single backdash will evade it and leave Leroy open same with b+2 parry, actually, it has a very long recovery now (easier said than done tho)

No one had the balls to confront harada, murray, or other corporates and ask them. „Why did you do this? I dont even have to ask HOW or WHY this happened, you sacrificed the integrity of your game for months an your good reputation. For a little bid of extra sales. You should apologize to your players and be ashamed“. No one did something like this.

I really want to see a good video about how to make Leroy cool. Like talk about how to make him an interesting character, maybe add another stance, something like Feng's shifting clouds, not just complain about how is design was terrible on launch and even to this day. I don't necessarily think that execution makes a character interesting, but just giving a character OP moves isn't cool. I'm just disappointed, because Leroy has so much swag and potential
I think the trick to making a character cool is you have to appreciate the heart/soul of their martial art and make their playstyle reflect it. It's why characters like King, Jin and Steve are so iconic. Say what you will about characters like Hwoarang, Lei and Eddy being annoying, but thematically they're a 10/10 in their moves and playstyle. To make Leroy good he'll have to reflect Wing Chun better. A lot of his moves are spot on, but overall he just plays like a pretty braindead, generic character.

I hope they release DLC characters weak, and then buff them gradually later on, because releasing them with everything after a hype trailer, just really puts a bad taste in your mouth. I would honestly want that instead, than to have a broken character on release.
There are Leroy players out there thinking this character was balanced and not deserving of nerfs. I fear no man, but the concept of those people existing, it haunts me. The most most broken character of all time is Tekken 1 King with the +90 df1 where you only had 2 choices, Die or die harder lol. he was busted on release, now, i believe overall fakurham or lidya are better, still the biggest issue is the easy execution and lack of moves is like they went around slapped some of the best moves of other tekken characters and that is it. he has very few moves compared to other characters if you are playing against a person that knows leroy wel and your not a top tier player you are not going to win, the back 4/ sweep yes it is the best thing that he has now .
I've been playing Tekken on and off since Tekken 4, for a total of approximately 5 years of non-casual gaming. When Leroy dropped I dropped Tekken and the fighting games completely.
I don't play a lot of tekken, but I love watching all the tournaments and when Leroy released I just hated every single tournament, so fricking boring. Atleast Akuma requires a lot of skill in comparison. Leroy matches just put me to sleep.

I hate the whole “if a dlc character is good they’re pay to win” But legacy characters like Steve,hworang,bryan, Paul get to have so much bs and get away with it Stop judging dlc characters so harshly
Im not a huge fan of mmswe approach to things, but in his defence - he explicitly said how Leroy's orbital is better than Bryan's. Does Bryan have a homing hellsweep? A safe-ish homing mix-up? Plus-frame pseudo-launchers? Does Paul have any of this stuff? Paul is annoying with df+2 and qcb+4 keep-out spam and also has a demo-man, but his demo-man is a joke compared to Leroy's. Paul isn't very good at whiff recover, but Leroy is. A lot of his "unfair" stuff is steppable, while Leroy's - isn't. Steve gets pretty dumb with his highs, but his lows are sub-par, he requirres both execution and brain to be a good turtle, and he has troubles going in aggressive. All of the characters you mentioned are definetely high-tier legacy gods, but none of them is braindead. None of them gets great tools in every aspect, unlike leroy and fahk who deal lots of damage, have perfect mixups, tonns of +frame setups, keepout, bs counterhits etc ALL AT ONCE. You can't deduca a universal approach against these characters, you can't beat every of the options.

Like talk about how to make him an interesting character, maybe add another stance, something like Feng's shifting clouds, not just complain about how is design was terrible on launch and even to this day. I don't necessarily think that execution makes a character interesting, but just giving a character OP moves isn't cool. I'm just disappointed, because Leroy has so much swag and potential
I think the trick to making a character cool is you have to appreciate the heart/soul of their martial art and make their playstyle reflect it. It's why characters like King, Jin and Steve are so iconic. Say what you will about characters like Hwoarang, Lei and Eddy being annoying, but thematically they're a 10/10 in their moves and playstyle.
To make Leroy good he'll have to reflect Wing Chun better. A lot of his moves are spot on, but overall he just plays like a pretty braindead, generic character.

I hope they release DLC characters weak, and then buff them gradually later on, because releasing them with everything after a hype trailer, just really puts a bad taste in your mouth. I would honestly want that instead, than to have a broken character on release.
They make DLCs easy and strong for a reason, so that many people buy them for easy wins.

Just spent the day playing Leroy for the first time in T7. Got him from 0-50 wins and ended up near yellow ranks. Gonna watch this video to see how he has gotten nerfed.
Leroy is where Tekken died to me.
Launch Leroy was busted but he definitely wasnt the most broken Tekken character of all time. The most most broken character of all time is Tekken 1 King with the +90 df1 where you only had 2 choices, Die or die harder lol. After that Tekken 3 Arcade Jin with the df1 glitch, then Launch Leroy.
So it should be:
1. Tekken 1 King
2: Tekken 3 Arcade Jin
3: Tekken 7 3.0 Leroy
Tekken 1 Armor King was even worse, having that busted d/f+1 and a Wind God Fist.

Kunimitsu's qcf+1 being able to hit anywhere across the screen combined with her SET 2 and SET 3 mix-up makes her so unfun to fight.

The only good thing that Leroy did for pro scene is Ulsan destroying Chikurin with Bob against the 3.0 Leroy on the finals if EVO Japan
he was busted on release, now, i believe overall fakurham or lidya are better, still the biggest issue is the easy execution and lack of moves is like they went around slapped some of the best moves of other tekken characters and that is it. he has very few moves compared to other characters if you are playing against a person that knows leroy wel and your not a top tier player you are not going to win, the back 4/ sweep yes it is the best thing that he has now .
Still has orbital, parries, b1+2, d3,2, best df1 etc
I've been playing Tekken on and off since Tekken 4, for a total of approximately 5 years of non-casual gaming.
When Leroy dropped I dropped Tekken and the fighting games completely.

I don't play a lot of tekken, but I love watching all the tournaments and when Leroy released I just hated every single tournament, so fricking boring. Atleast Akuma requires a lot of skill in comparison. Leroy matches just put me to sleep.

Im not a huge fan of mmswe approach to things, but in his defence - he explicitly said how Leroy's orbital is better than Bryan's. Does Bryan have a homing hellsweep? A safe-ish homing mix-up? Plus-frame pseudo-launchers? Does Paul have any of this stuff? Paul is annoying with df+2 and qcb+4 keep-out spam and also has a demo-man, but his demo-man is a joke compared to Leroy's. Paul isn't very good at whiff recover, but Leroy is. A lot of his "unfair" stuff is steppable, while Leroy's - isn't. Steve gets pretty dumb with his highs, but his lows are sub-par, he requirres both execution and brain to be a good turtle, and he has troubles going in aggressive. All of the characters you mentioned are definetely high-tier legacy gods, but none of them is braindead. None of them gets great tools in every aspect, unlike leroy and fahk who deal lots of damage, have perfect mixups, tonns of +frame setups, keepout, bs counterhits etc ALL AT ONCE. You can't deduca a universal approach against these characters, you can't beat every of the options.
