  • The Greenstalk Vertical Planters provided months of salads, peas, and other spring harvests, but it was time to transition them to summer crops. In this video, I show how I removed the spent spring crops, added new soil, and planted new crops (including arugula for the summer!).

We just did tier on by on to refurbish the soil and added chicken po, perlite, new potting soil mix, bone meal. I loved planting into the garden for them to start. 🍀🍀

I probably wouldn’t feel comfortable about buying one if there weren’t so many videos like this that answer all of my questions. Thank you.

Thank you for this! I love my greenstalk! How did the bush beans do in yours? Is there an update video on this planting?

They did great! I will be doing them again this year, only planting them earlier. Our Arkansas heat kept them from flowering and producing well at the precise time they were ready to. I got enough to can about a half dozen pints of beans, but because of how prolific the plants were, I think an earlier planting would yield much more. (I didn't do an update video b/c they produced so sporadically in the heat, and in that point in the garden season I was really busy canning!)

Hi, can you do an update on this system? The do's and dont's. The best produce to grow in the greenstalk. Thanks! :)

I do plan on publishing a troubleshooting video soon! Also check out the playlist on the Greenstalk on my channel; I've done a few others as well.

My chickens cleaned out the bottom tier of greens and strawberries so not much clearing needed there.

I noticed you didn’t wet your soil before planting in it. How do the seeds get enough moisture to germinate? When I water my greenstalk it only wets in the middle, not out where the seeds are.

I do water the seeds in when I plant if the soil isn't moist already, until a little bit after they germinate.

Silly question…did you pull the roots of the spring harvest lettuce? It didn’t look like you did. Thanks! 😊

This was a couple of years ago so I can’t recall exactly. But usually I’ll leave the roots unless it’s so tough and large it would impede the growth of the next crop.

I am finding that I need to water through the top and through the front of the buckets. I am in Idaho, Nampa area. Is that normal?

I’ve been finding the same. Once some of my plants get really big I don’t have to but I was wondering if other people had to do the same...it has been super hot this year. Maybe that’s why?

When the plants are very young and they haven't developed root systems yet, sometimes I supplement with watering the pockets. But once established, I don't find that necessary. And I have noticed I have to water daily in our heat (90s daily with high humidity) at the moment. For my established plants (like the beans and peppers), watering at the top is all I do.

I did the same in Colorado Springs. I think we have very similar conditions. Especially at first for seeds, but really, it needed it sometimes. It's just too hot and dry regularly over 90 and single digit humidity with wind.. But it's still not difficult and I grew SO much food that I bought some more of them!

I'll tell you my experience with Greenstalk. I ordered the 1st one as a leaf 5 tier. I got the base on wheels. Absolutely no issues with it. Then with coupon I ordered the original 5 tier. No base and it's level, has fallen over 2 times now. Excuse excuse excuse and they will send me a refund when I send it back! Are you kidding me? It's not top heavy, put together properly and it's level. All I asked for was another base. Not willing and from the son-in-law of owner. So I'm telling everyone to not trust Greenstalk to do the right thing!
