    I made some improvements to make it easier to set up and move around. Tying the legs together with an adjustable length of Paracord makes it easier to set up, and also easier to move to another location or adjust if the wind changes direction. Using a waterproof dry bag for weight allows it to be filled with water if the sand is too hard to dig up.
    I have planned improvements to allow the shade to be used in no wind and reduce the flapping and noise in high winds.

    ▶ Fabric Tape (No Sewing required, just use the double sticky tape to make the tent pole pocket hem) - amzn.to/3qA04wy
    ▶ Fabric (Sewing a hem required) - amzn.to/42UIktN
    ▶ Fabric (Sewing required) If you buy fabric to sew together, use ~1.1oz ripstop polyester, like Silpoly. Do not use Nylon, it will deteriorate in the sun. Use polyester thread for sewing. ripstopbythero...
    ▶ Dry Bag - A dry bag can hold sand, dirt, rocks, or water - amzn.to/3rWlX6C

    Brilliant! I ordered the beach blanket and 20’ tent pole. I have everything else to make a little sandbag. This is a shibumi clone for around $50. Using the beach blanket makes the design so simple that no instructions are really necessary.

    This really cool! I was looking for a way to shade a tent in the open from sun. If there is no breeze to hold the sheet out - could this rig be guyed out with rope and pegs?

    This 2 pack of 12 ft pole you have in description, do they just connect to make one 24ft pole?

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  Год назад

      Unfortunately looks like they are out of stock at the moment. Usually those link to the 20ft poles, or the 25 ft poles. The diameter should be 9.5mm or 11mm. The 11mm are stronger and stiffer. Those 12ft poles will be flimsy.

  • @narikaba439

    Do it on the cheap like I do. Square/rectangle frame with PVC pipes. Dirt cheap compare to tent poles. No wind no problem build the whole box frame. When it's windy just untie 3 sides and let it fly.
    I've been doing this for years.
    You can also do upside down V on two sides with the cross bar connecting them.

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  Год назад

      Nice, would be cool to see some pics or videos of your creation

    • @narikaba439
      @narikaba439 Год назад

      You can do one side with upside down V instead of using the rope and sand bag. It's simple really. Just pvc, couplers, 90 degree and 3 way corner connector. Cut to shorter pieces for easy transport in bag or buckets.
      No sewing. I use glue on velcro on the fabric. You don't need to run the entire length with velcro. Just a few in between. It's not going anywhere.
      You should make your next video doing this. 😁 Shibumi can go kick rock. $270 for a tent pole and a piece of nylon fabric is outrageous. Threatening you is lowlife stuff.

    I made mine using a nylon tarp (for more UPF protection), but I'm wondering if another material, like a cotton bedsheet that you seem to be using here, will float better? Do you have any thoughts on that?

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  Год назад

      Nylon doesn't hold up well to the sun, although the actual exposure time will be short since this is not used 24/7. Lightweight cotton doesn't have as good of UPF as polyester. Check out the polyester microfiber beach cloth I used here. It is also quite like the cotton ruclips.net/video/46UtB61uktg/видео.html

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  Год назад +1

      What fabric did you use? Brand, thickness? What's unusual is that polyester has a base UV protection of about 30. The beach blanket is made from microfiber polyester, so it should offer decent protection. You can use a UV spray to add UV protection. Here are some examples. amzn.to/47809rS

      @@engineerable I saw local people on many remote islands in the 1980's when I was in the Navy use these on their beaches. They used a sort of bamboo pole and large sheet to make it. Truth be known, the company who threatened you likely took the idea from these remote people and they complained about you? That's a joke!

      @enineering, yes they used a line out front but it was staked in. Very simple idea. This shade idea has been around for 200 years on those islands. Leave it to a creative entity to patent it as their own. This is not rocket science or a proprietary super invention. Your video is awesome and simple!
