hey, when three years ago, I first had the incidence of SGB, I was scared as I haven't felt chest pressure ever in my life before, and also shortness in breath. That time, I went to ER, but everything was alright and they couldn't diagnose it. I went to Gastroenterologist and Pulmonologist, but they concluded it was IBS and Mild Asthma, respectively. During these three years, I did lot of things such trying lactose-free, gluten-free meals, but it did not help me conclusively, since SGB events (like feeling pressure in my chest before continuous belching for couple of minutes, waking up in night with the urge to belch and dryness in mouth) would come and go even when I stuck to those meals. One thing definitely helped me was doing lots of Cardio and strength training, since I felt It helped create movement in my gut. But on the days I didn't exercise, the SGB would reoccur. Now with Diaphragmatic breathing I can feel the different. I do it many times a day casually when I am sitting working, before a meal, half an hour after meal, before sleep. I can feel it is a true game changer. Thanks for this amazing informative vide.
Bro you had anxiety or depression or panic attack problems?

Thank you for publishing this lecture! This helped me (radiologist) diagnose a patient with this on an Upper GI fluoroscopy. I believe the patient will be following up with you.
Actually hearing the differences between a GB and SGB would have been super helpful
The sgb usually happens to me when I have some sort of pressure building up in my chest, so I suck in air and belch, and yes soon enough I experience heart burn sometimes. Not always, sometimes the belch is enough to relieve the pressure, but often it turns into hear burn amd acidity. But what is the root cause? The sgb begins as a response to some discomfort, a pressure building up, which doesnt go until I belch, and becomes acid reflux anyway. Why does this happen and how do we address the root cause?
Edit: Since posting this, I have been consciously not doing the sgb which I would do when pressure built up in my oesophagus, and it has been quite marvellous. The gastric burp which is much smaller and less intense comes automatically and the pressure subsides. It doesn't cause heart burn like my sgb's usually would. The pressure comes quite often, but resolves itself. Uncleching my stomach helps as well. Thank you for spreading this valuable knowledge and helping us understand our bodies better :)
Edit 2: Having stopped the sgb for a while, I found that I was certainly better off than before. But I would still often get the pressure building, hiccuping, and once in a while I would get nausea which reminded me of why I started doing the sgb in the first place. This told me there must be some underlying issue. I went to the gastroenterologist who recommended an endoscopy to rule out GERD and he found that my stomach fundus and body were inflamed (aka I had gastritis which was causing my acidity problems) and tested for h.pylori (which famously causes gastritis and stomach ulcers) for which I was strongly positive. I'm now on a course of antibiotics and antacids to get rid of the h.pylori and give my inflamed stomach a break.
Tl;dr: Try to stop the sgb so you can find out if there is an underlying problem which you can then finally address. I had sgb, stopped that, still had issues (but better than before), got tested, have gastritis caused by h.pylori.
Hi, may I ask how you managed not to do the sgb, when pressure is building up?
Suffering from the same problem and behavioral therapists near me know nothing about sgb and ask me what they should be doing with me it’s really unfortunate.
@@maximusmagic3793 Oh i'm sorry to hear that :( Well mostly it's just that as the pressure builds, I am aware that I have to not suck in air through my mouth and do the sgb as I usually would, and I just do nothing, knowing that it'll pass on its own. So sometimes the pressure might give me a hiccup or something similar or change my breathing slightly. And the pressure could come and go for a couple of minutes or even longer, but eventually it will be released by a burp or hiccup or something. Unclenching my stomach also helps me relax. And maybe do something else so you're not fixated on the pressure or discomfort and when the gastric burp happens, it'll be a pleasant surprise. This isn't a very technical answer, but I hope it helps. It's essentially just doing nothing and leaving the responsibility of relieving the discomfort to the body itself because it knows what to do, so I can just relax and not worry about it. Do let me know if you have further questions or want to discuss it more.
@@TheWatev123456789 hi i also have h pylori and gastiste but now since 1 year after treatment i have lot burping like aire and pressure can you advise me thanke you
@@kandykandy755 I'm not sure how I can help :( I too experience the gastritis symptoms from time to time so i'm assuming it'd because my stomach hasn't healed fully. Maybe that's the case for you too? Have you visited your gastroenterologist recently about it? I'm assuming you're also staying away from foods that trigger your gastritis as well. I also realised that even if a particular food doesn't trigger me, if I have it everyday it ends up triggering the gastritis to I need to change up my diet to prevent that.

Thank you! My mom suffered from SGB for months, tried multiple doctors and madications, and after seeing this lecture I advised her to try CBT. It worked! She is now few months without symptoms! I have being suffering from severe burping issues since 2 years after taking covid vaccine, it is happening each night for 3 hours, continuous burps for each seconds. Did Manometry test, barium sallow test, endoscopy, whole abdomen ultrasound- nothing serious came out. Doctor given me anti-depressants tablet now. That didnot help. Can you guide me?
That belching is not caused by COVID vaccine... It's a behavioural problem it's called supragastric belch... CBT and antidepressants are the main treatment of SGB.. Continue your antidepressants and see a psychologist to CBT they may have help to resolve your problem @@moumitamaiti1415

Hi, I am suffering from SGB. I don’t know if you are replying to comments at all on this video but I would appreciate it if you could do a short video where you explain what we should be exactly doing to help the sgb get better.
After asking 10+ behavioral therapists near me, they all told me that they have no experience whatsoever with SGB and don’t know what they should be doing with me which is really frustrating.

UCLA HEALTH, Would a Pulmonologist be the correct type of doctor that specializes in fixing and treating SGB Supragastric belching or what type of Therapy sessions are they called to fix and treat supragastric belching?

Thank you so much for the information!!!
Good morning America. 1st to see your post from Philippines
I suck in air lately but don't make a belching sound. It's more like a silent hiccup but air sucks in fast making a slurping type sound. The internet is massive yet I can't find one example of the sound of a supragastric belch to see if this is what I have or not.
Mines have are almost silent and I don't get a slurping sound. Mines are in-between a heave and a hiccup.

I disagree that a supragastric belch does not occur during singing or speech.
Hello, have you experienced worsening with singing or speech?
@@tatiadarsadze1779 I would say unaffected. When I eat something that gets me gassy. Speech and singing are actually quite terrifying because I'm unable to control it and the frequent burping makes me feel like gagging.
@@mahrncir I would do sgb's in the middle of talking sometimes if I felt the tug of pressure, but it would mean me interrupting my speech to suck in air and do the sgb to release it. Is that the case with you?
@@TheWatev123456789 I'm having an episode right now it doesn't seem to be impacted by my breathing at all. They are occurring while breathing in, out or holding my breath. They are occurring at a similar interval regardless.
