This is, so far in my research, the best explanation of the importance, and real world functionality of a FMEA. I have been in the design and engineering field for 20+ years. I was involved in the ISO 9000 certification process in the late 90's and I did not buy into it. I thought is was just a ton of unnecessary paperwork. I now know that this feeling was because upper management felt that it was for certification purposes only, and did not follow through with the QMS. I have now bought into it, and I am extremely enthusiastic to see the effects of the IATF16949 Quality system. I just hope I can convince the owners of its importance.
