A few more tips: Ghosts can start a hunt in their favourite room but it can also wander out of it's favourite room and start a hunt at a seemingly random location. For example the Banshee and Phantom tend to roam towards you and can start a hunt far away from their room closer to you. The Wraith can randomly teleport to you anywhere on the map and then immediately start a hunt right next to you. The Jinn cannot turn off the fuse box. The Oni cannot do the floating ball ghost events. Shades on the other hand do the floating ghost ball event more often and also appear as a shadow in a ghost event more likely than other ghosts. The Phantom has a higher chance of spawning as a transparent or see through ghost in case of an event. The Banshee often roams close to it's selected target. For example the ghost room is currently the kitchen on Tanglewood. You hide in the big bedroom bathroom and the ghost keeps walking up close to the rooms you are inside of like the living room. Then you hide in the kids room and again the ghost keeps searching close to the hallways and entrance where the kids room is. The mimic may randomly turn into a slow/fast ghost and then a normal ghost at times so keep listening for foot step speed.
@@DanielCator Slight correction. A ghost will NOT necessarily start it's hunt from it's favorite room. It will start it's hunt wherever it happens to be at the time, so if it is wandering when a hunt should occur, then it will hunt from wherever it was wandering. That is why you can have a crucifix in the favorite room and the ghost can still hunt. False info like this is what kills people.
How can you tell the difference between Banshee and Wraith 'teleporting'? Or do you have to check with Paramic/Salt? You say the shades appear as a shadow more likely than other ghosts - can you not rule out a shade if it ISN'T a shadow - even if you had 50 shadow ghost events before that? And doesn't that also work with summoning circle (all ghosts except shade will appear as a non-shadow form) ?
@@DocDeathSNR When the Wraith teleports on top of you, it will leave either an EMF 2 or with a 25% chance an EMF 5. Banshees and Phantoms cannot suddenly teleport to you and thus CAN be tracked with Salt and Motion Sensors through out the map altough this is of course hard to do if you're solo. Also when a Banshee roams to you will not leave an EMF reading. When the Phantom roams to you it will only make an EMF 2. To distinguish a bit further, if you're in heartbeat range of a Phantom during a ghost event or hunt, you will lose 0.5% sanity per second faster. If you touch a Banshee during a singing ghost event you will lose 15% instead of 10% so you can check these both if you have the sanity monitor available. Otherwise you're right, it can sometimes be hard to differentiate between them. You should simply listen for the Banshee scream, see if the ghost steps in salt or not and look wether the ghost is blinking very slowly like a Phantom. Those are the most distinguishable traits it's just gonna have to take more time. Now about the Shade: The Shade is the only ghost that CAN appear as a shadow when it is summoned through a cursed possesion like the summoning circle but it is not guaranteed so if you still see a full body ghost model, that shouldn't rule out a Shade. The Shade can appear fully or translucent like any other Ghost it just has higher chance of appearing as a shadow. One way to detect a Shade is when it only starts a hunt anywhere else but where you are currently standing. If the ghost spawns a hunt in the same room that you are in, you rule out the Shade as it cannot start a hunt in the same room with you.
Thank you. I'm so glad someone finally cared enough to explain this. So many streamers and tubers just give a vague thing or say "yup that's a ......" I know this because of the foot steps. But don't explain anything. It's beyond frustrating. You are a true hero among mediocre streamers. Thank you.
Insym has a video specifically detailing every ghost in depth. And he is slightly prone to explain ghost abilities on stream. He isn't short and sweet in most of his videos but he is the most knowledgeable and informative. His ghost video is really good as it provides the "short and sweet" and then gives you extra details instead of being convoluted. This youtuber did miss some information that is amazing to know so... as everyone says, I'd go visit insym aswell (he's a human Wikipedia page)
with the Banshee, I'm pretty sure it stalks the target player, in multiplayer, it will only target 1 of the teammates, in single player, obviously the only player in the match, so if you know it's not a teleporting wraith or a roaming phantom, and you see it outside of it's favourite room a lot, then you know it HAS to be a Banshee.
Banshee is easy to spot when playing bigger maps with other people too, as it will chase that and phase through you if you try to intervene. Another easy way to spot it is if it starts a hunt in the room next to you in a large map when you're headed to the van, banshees tend to move their room so they stay close to the player they're targeting, so always be cautious of the rooms around you when a hunt starts.
Absolutely helpful! Thank you! I have a notebook with ghost behaviours I learn from Insym's streams but I'm still having trouble identifying a few of them reliably. Your video examples and descriptions were just what I needed to boost my skills! Thank you!
One nice tip about banshee is that if in a difficulty where the ghost keeps hunting after killing, even if you and your mate are together (like glued to each other), banshee will only kill the target and leave, he'll probably kill the other if he sees them again, but it helps the other one escape.
Helpful tip for newbies: It can be hard to figure out what is or isn't a normal speed ghost without a reference, and pulling up a cheat sheet mid-hunt is dangerous. Hum a song that is close or matches the normal speed ghost bpm of 115. Anything from 113 to 117 should work. I personally use "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, but just search up songs in this range and find one you can memorize. Typically you get the best results with a song that has a drum or synth line that matches the footsteps (i.e. intro to Billie Jean). If you're on a harder difficulty, such, as Apocalypse 3 or a few of the weekly challenges, you'll find the ghost's speed is 50% faster. In that case, you want a song around 173 BPM. I use "Hit the Road, Jack" by Ray Charles for this one, as I love the song and the percussion matches perfectly. But again, shop around for what works. I hope this helps!

One way to circumvent this is to check for orbs whenever you have all evidence for yurei or hantu. If I get either of those on full evidence, I immediately check for orbs and second guess if that’s all the evidence. On nightmare/insanity/0evid, I would just find the ghost orb or another piece of evidence that isn’t supposed to be there
While the list doesnt cover all quirks (for example banshee player targeting in multiplayer, jinn cant turn breaker off etc) this has been the most cohesive guides i ve seen, before this vid it felt like we had to just wstch insym ghost runs for multiple hours to get a hang of it
That wil help me a lot I recently just started doing nightmares and I was having trouble finding ghosts most of the time I have to guess them because I didnt know all that thank yoiu
Nice guide!! Is a great guide for new and experienced players. Here are some tips from my experience that I hope are useful for both in single and MP sessions. If the ghost ever turns off the break then it can't be a Jin cause he needs that for its ability to work. If the ghost turns off the breaker a lot then it might also be a hantu cause he tends to shut it off a lot, and hantus have freezing temperature forced so if you are playing in nightmare for example and you get your 2 evidences and one of the possible ghosts is a hantu but you didn't get freezing temp, you can rule out hantu. Same thing with Obake's forced ultraviolet. For Oni if you are playing in MP you can test going alone to the ghost room and going in with your friends, The Oni is more active when multiple people are in the ghost room, I have figured out some onis that way. For demon if you suspect it is a demon you can place your crucifix in a bad way and if it still gets used then it might be a demon cause the radius of the crucifix for demons is 50% larger. For Shades, I don't know if it coz rng but sometimes you get super shy non-shade ghost that you get confused, but a nice way to test for it that worked for me is to just go be outside the ghost room and then entering it for a couple of minutes, if it becomes active when you are outside the ghost room but gets quiet all of sudden you can suspect it is a Shade and if you have access to the sanity board and your avg sanity is over 35% and it nevers hunts even if you are outside the ghost room, then is most likely a shade or a shy Deogen. Mare tend to break the lights in the ghost room or adjacent rooms a lot more than other ghosts. Wraith teleports a lot, so if you suddenly see activity near when you are far from the ghost room and it isn't a ghost event it could be a wraith teleporting around. Banshee in MP will choose a target from the players and won't follow or kill the others as long as the target is still alive, you will notice that you are not the target if it goes past you when hunting.
I’ve had a nightmare difficulty run where I had 2 evidences. While trying to figure out the ghost, I saw it blow out a fire light so I lit it back up and not a second later, it blew it out again. This happened about 5 times back to back. It was in fact, an onryo.
For those who don't know yet, you can also tell if it's a Demon if it's able to start another hunt 20s right after the last, instead of the normal 25s. The crucifix also has a larger coverage area to prevent hunts for that ghost type.
Some small notes from me: Shades cannot hunt if any player is in the same room as it, if using the Monkey Paw, using the “I wish to be Sane” wish will force even a Goryo to change rooms
There is a way to identify Goryo. You need to pick up a camera and stay outside of the ghost room looking for the dots. You will see dots only in the screen of the video camera, not in the real world. The other way is to watch dots from the Van (then the camera can be in the ghost room)
You cannot completely rule out a Shade because it does something with you in the room. I've had them write in the ghost book in the foyer room on Tanglewood with me in the same room before. Hard to say if that is the variability they put into the ghosts or a bug but if you count out a Shade simply because it does something like ghost writing or a door touch etc. with you in the room you can get burned by that. Otherwise solid advise on Phas ghosts.
I just recently had this happen to me. I was playing some zero evidence speedrun and decided to go into the truck for another smudge.. When I came back the frontdoor was shut tho I was sure there was no event since I was playing alone and thus noone was in the house. I went by guessing Yurei and won :D Most random thing ever that helped me there
Jinns will interact with the breaker even if its on if you put an emf on the breaker and hear it go off without the breaker actually turning off it usually means its a jinn
Wait, on the campsite map do the logs around the fire block LOS? It was it just a hit box situation? Also, this video is mad helpful, especially for me getting towards level 20
When Thaye was released, it had a bug that caused it to have no lower activity limit. If you stayed long enough. It will have a below 0percent sanity requirement for hunts. And never will do a single thing
9:07 This is technically true, however I think Shade might be glitched. I was playing earlier today and the ghost burned the crucifix while I was standing in the ghost room with it, causing me to mark Shade off. But at the end of the round the ghost turned out to be a Shade.
I think the bug happens when the shade decides to roam and if your sanity is below the hunting threshold , it triggers a hunt, despite you being in the ghost room, because it counts as if you are not with the ghost
Bro, People said that "Mare is the source of nightmare" yeah i mean they are right, but my nightmare is The Moroi, when i first played it and we encounter a moroi, my friends said theres a child running around but its very slow, but when our sanity got to 10 to 0, Its so fast, Since other people name it "Moroi" me and my friends name it "The little one"
For the Goryo, at least according to the Phasmo Wiki it will not show dots without a video camera and it will not perform dots with a player in the same room as it. In my experience this has been true, however that can be purely anecdotal and I have not intentionally tested it. If this is true, that is another way to test for Goryo!
For banshee its better to sit in a different room (on the same floor and see if it roams straight to you as this is its ability. Basically set salt in front if you... if it just waddles its way straight to you, itll step in salt and show its a banshee. The only other two ghosts that do this are the wraith and phantom which you can test accordingly to this video. This is one of those statistical things where there is a teeny weeny chance that a different ghost coincidentally roams straight to you. Long story short, if the ghost is immensely attractive to your handsome aroma or your friends less sexy apparel... its a banshee
That's when we don't have any bugs... cause... really... the amount of bugs I have on this game... like a Shade that hunted right in the middle of the Prison's infirmary with me inside, a Goryo that hunted with 75% team average sanitiy, an Onryo that made THREE hunts after been smudged within 35 secs, 45 secs and 1min10...and etc...

i have a question can the goryo change rooms? like ghost rooms. i got confused on what you said i was just wondering. i love the video though im a beginner and this helepd a lot!
This game is great. I hope we get a nice Halloween event soon and maybe they already release the reworked Farmhouses with it. I hope we get one or two new ghosts one day. And Maybe a new Evidence. They teased Video Evidence in the Roadmap. Also i have a great idea for a Sequel: Xenophobia. Basically the same game but with different Aliens instead of Ghosts.
The mimic is actually the easiest ghost in reversed because if you play in amateur difficulty you might have hard time finding the evidence while you play in nightmare, insanity and no evidence difficulty, ghost orb makes it easier to know.
I remember when I first tried to identify a Phantom without any evidence I noticed that half of the time I couldn't see him during a hunt. So I guess it's not too hard to spot the difference between the Phantom and other ghosts but idk

If I get either of those on full evidence, I immediately check for orbs and second guess if that’s all the evidence. On nightmare/insanity/0evid, I would just find the ghost orb or another piece of evidence that isn’t supposed to be there
Great video!
Appreciate it! :)
This was very helpful, thank u for your efforts 🐳🐳🐳
Apreciate it, im not gonna suck anymore in x15, thx dude, ❤
Happy I could help! :)
No problem! I'm really glad it helped!
Taking a photo of a phantom during a ghost event just makes the phantom invisible, it might continue singing
I really enjoyed watching other people play phasmophobia and I finally got it
Thank u for the video this will help me😊
Nice guide!!
Great tips!
I’ve had a nightmare difficulty run where I had 2 evidences. While trying to figure out the ghost, I saw it blow out a fire light so I lit it back up and not a second later, it blew it out again. This happened about 5 times back to back. It was in fact, an onryo.
bro has potential
I wish there were more puzzle aspects outside of the hunts. The devs have focused a little too much on hunt phases.
Thank you that was help full
For those who don't know yet, you can also tell if it's a Demon if it's able to start another hunt 20s right after the last, instead of the normal 25s. The crucifix also has a larger coverage area to prevent hunts for that ghost type.
hey, can you show your settings for the no evidence custom difficulty?
nice vid btw !
Glad you enjoyed! I have a few other No Evidence vids that show my custom settings, but I might make a vid explaining it more at some point :)
@@WarpedCrayFish ahh i see, looking forward to it :D
MIMIC: HOLD MY BREATH. ill make it seem like it was all of them. lmfaoooooooo
Some small notes from me: Shades cannot hunt if any player is in the same room as it, if using the Monkey Paw, using the “I wish to be Sane” wish will force even a Goryo to change rooms
The Revenant also becomes faster when your flashlight flickers because it then knows where you are
There is a way to identify Goryo. You need to pick up a camera and stay outside of the ghost room looking for the dots. You will see dots only in the screen of the video camera, not in the real world. The other way is to watch dots from the Van (then the camera can be in the ghost room)
You can also spot the Banshee in a hunt because it points out one target that he hunts (ofc only in multiplayer)
I didn't realise the deogen was fast when not close. That explains some of the weird behavior i was seeing.
Revenant also speeds up if he hears you, when im hiding together with people i sometimes Spam the Radio to scare them 😅
I've been trying the level up system that insym uses but I can never get the right ghost this helps heaps
Happy to help!
I just recently had this happen to me. I was playing some zero evidence speedrun and decided to go into the truck for another smudge.. When I came back the frontdoor was shut tho I was sure there was no event since I was playing alone and thus noone was in the house. I went by guessing Yurei and won :D
Most random thing ever that helped me there
Whats the name of the Timer you use? Great vid by the way really improved our ability to find out ghosts in nightmare and no evidence
Timer is called Livesplit! Hope this helps
I'm assuming when I smudged the Ghost, it lost LOS, but it could've been something else. Glad this video helped! :)
This is amazing, sadly i'll forget 95% of it in 5 minutes :wheeze:
I feel that xD
Facts thank you 😂❤
No problem!
When Thaye was released, it had a bug that caused it to have no lower activity limit. If you stayed long enough. It will have a below 0percent sanity requirement for hunts. And never will do a single thing
you the goat man
9:07 This is technically true, however I think Shade might be glitched. I was playing earlier today and the ghost burned the crucifix while I was standing in the ghost room with it, causing me to mark Shade off. But at the end of the round the ghost turned out to be a Shade.
I ain't a phasmophobia pro but maybe it came from the next room and then burned the crucifix or it's just something with the difficulty settings
I think the bug happens when the shade decides to roam and if your sanity is below the hunting threshold , it triggers a hunt, despite you being in the ghost room, because it counts as if you are not with the ghost
omori pfp
Light switch battles with Mares are fun
Clickclickclickclickclick
revenant can speed up to 3.0m/s if it detects you in any way, not just LOS
you deserve more
For banshee its better to sit in a different room (on the same floor and see if it roams straight to you as this is its ability.
What is the name of the timer thats on the video ? (When trying to figure out spirit or demon)
It's called LiveSplit! Hope this helps :)
when i make a video can I shout you out?
Sure! If you want to, go ahead!
Hello!! I wanted to ask which software you use to put a timer on your screen!? Or do you out it while editing? Im lookong for a stopwatch
It's called LiveSplit. Hope this helps!
@@WarpedCrayFish tysm.. I swear you deserve so many more followers. The quality of your vidos is basically professional!! Keep the good work up and you should hit a million in nof to much! Remember my name brother.
Most things seem right but on the cheat sheet can't a moroi speed up to 3.71 with line of sight?
Yes it will speed up, I was just showing its initial speed is 2.25 at 0 sanity :)
i have a question can the goryo change rooms? like ghost rooms. i got confused on what you said i was just wondering. i love the video though im a beginner and this helepd a lot!
Nope! The Goryo cannot change ghost rooms. I appreciate the question!
Another way to check for hantu is to watch for freezing breath the ghost makes when hunting
The phantom is always invisible for at least a second
for fun i call the moroi "musuroi" which translates to antpile
The mimic is actually the easiest ghost in reversed because if you play in amateur difficulty you might have hard time finding the evidence while you play in nightmare, insanity and no evidence difficulty, ghost orb makes it easier to know.
Isnt a Thaye that ghost which doesnt change his speed at all ?
hey for anyone watching, just fyi some of the timer stuff may have changed with the new update!
I had a gost yesterday that didn’t walk into the salt, so I thought that was a wraith….
Turned out to be an oni…. I think it was an bug?
Sounds like a bug!
Or you just didn't give it enough time. Interactions are RNG so it probably wasn't bugged.
I remember when I first tried to identify a Phantom without any evidence I noticed that half of the time I couldn't see him during a hunt. So I guess it's not too hard to spot the difference between the Phantom and other ghosts but idk
