    I didn’t really have any issue with that first tone you got on the NUX. It sounded pretty good. I’m really impressed with the budget options of guitar gear these days. I realize it’s almost apples and oranges at this point, but 14 year old me would never believe the tones available at $300 bucks.

    MG-30 user here. You‘re spot on with many points. with the expression pedal… this would really be better done as just a socket for something substantial. The stock cabs are fair enough for some tones but don’t really cut it on things like metal. So I can’t agree more to MG-30 users: Give this thing some good IRs.. the technical base is really capable - it can shine! I‘m mostly using York Audio IRs and they make this thing nearly a new device. So YES you‘re right about that too. Regarding the missing 5051… so true too… it’s one of my favorite and I really hope they will include a good model of it. The Good thing is: They do hear us. The new Scenes feature was an idea I brought up and they did include it. I also mentioned organizing IRs being a bit cumbersome and they added the IR collection list. It’s a cool little vendor. Regarding the axe-fx analogy… actually I don’t think they really tried to make the point that the MG-30 is on that level. I think they just wanted to describe their approach to modeling being similar. When talking to them they really are very down-to-earth. As a user - what made the MG-30 shine against some others I had or tried? The complete set of sound quality, build quality, user interface and also one thing: It really „feels“ very direct and dynamic when playing compared to e.g. the Mooer devices. I can’t speak about the Ampero because I didn’t have one. I know someone who has the MG-30, Ampero and Axe Fm3 and he likes the MG-30 more than the Ampero. This isn’t a metal player though. I always got the impression that the Ampero particularly appeals metal players. So as you ask: Is it as Good as an Axe Fx? Your spot on with „yes and no“ by at the same time making clear that this question is overly simplistic. The Axe FX offers MUCH more options so it can do MUCH more. But for some peoples use the MG-30 might actually really be enough and just costs a fraction of the fractal - pardon the pun😉. For the NUX I‘m really hope for inclusion of the 5051 and that they are successful with the output transformer modelling they might have in the next update.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 года назад +3

      Awesome comment. I totally agree, I think it’s just a different thing and MOST people don’t require all that the axefx offers. And yes, my contact at Nux is very cool and down to earth… but I also think that they are smart by comparing their product to the axefx, because it appeals to people who recognize the brand but are on a budget. I also think it’s awesome they have enough humility to refer to their cabs as “decent” in their marketing 😂

    • @aptfx
      @aptfx 3 года назад

      @@TaylorDanley Ah... I've seen that there is a misunderstanding in the "2K" part in your video. You mention in 10:04 that NUX markets the MG-30 as "2K" compared to AXE-FX "standard definition". Thats not the case actually. Their (NUX) implementation of white box modeling is called "TSAC". With the NUX MG-300 they developed it further and called it TSAC-HD. The MG-30 is the next generation of it and then got called TSAC-2K. So its all within their _own_ product line. TSAC is actually the same kind of marketing name like COSM with the Boss/Roland stuff. So besides of the perhaps questionable analogy to tv resolution it actually isn't directly comparing to AXE-FX. They _do_ create the connection in that their white box modeling is doing essentially the same as Fractal - in contrast to "black box modeling" which is in a range of more or less simple convolution algorithms (like tone match in Mooer or AmpMatching in BiasFX) up to complex profiling like in Kemper. NeuralDSP Quad Cortex might be something of a hybrid, because it does do black box profiling but also seems to model cirquits enough to allow realistic "amp knob fiddling".

Nemrégiben pedig MG30 is megjött. Ég és föld a különbség. Sokkar karakteresebb, kevésbé tűnik szimulációnak és műanyagnak a hangzás. Simán felveszi mindkettő a versenyt a komolyabb motyókkal is. A kezelőfelülete mindkettő NUX-nak átláthatóbb, letisztultabb, és szebb. Még az érintő képernyő sem hiányzik.

    Both the mg 300 and the 30 are my favorite pieces of gear for one reason - they sound good to great. the 300 is very easy and there seems to not be a bad sound in it as long as you dont go silly . the 30 , well i have only had it for a minute but there is more to it and it sounds really good . transfering patches manually (using the same models with the same settings) from the 300 to the 30 i found unsatisfactory results until i went and really fine tuned everything the scenes and parallel routing options for example are great but required me to jump thru hoops to match volume levels ... iif you live in an apartement or if you record music these things are great. out of the box this type of stuff doesnt hit its mark till you customize it , which on the 30 is gonna take you some time .OF COURSE it sucks compared to axe fx which costs 2000.oo... if you got burned by digital once before this is the one you should try - you will like it ... But this of course is all just my opinion, i do feel the user experience is very good and the top thing is the sound- wowie wow wow -it can be great - BTW thomann has the30 for 211 USD and the 300 for 89 USD .

    I dig the sounds here. Have not used a Nux product but intend to. Mostly a plugin person myself but sometimes like busting out a flor unit and going from there.
    Ps: Any thoughts on how you think different approaches of modeling/capturing change the end sound? EG, something like the AxeFx or a Mercuriall plugin is generally modeled after the circuit in question. That is, there's little digital things that model diodes and transistors etc, vs something like a Kemper or Quad Capture or Reamp Studio from AA that takes a snapshot of an amp (or several snapshots) and averages all that out. Something like Reamp Studio sounds good, but there are profiles in it that sound... Static. They don't react or behave like a ground up circuit model. Perhaps a future vid idea? This subject fascinates me to no end.
    If I had a Kemper, I'd purposefully try and mess with breaking a profile whilst capturing it and see what goes wrong. Like, does it just totally trash the gain structure of the amp in cool ways, or how would capturing a super high gain tone work then bumping the gain down on the profile differ from the real thing?
    Thx for reading. My post script was longer than the OG subject. Lol. Cheers

    If I was looking to ease my way in to modeling, could I use this just for the effects along with my drive pedals for now and maybe lose my amplifier at a later date and then use the modeling amplifiers inside this unit? Are the effects alone good enough?

    On paper closely modeling the amp sounds great. In practice that is not necessarily what people want on a multi-fx/amp modeler. When Line 6 released the Pod HD it had some models that so closely followed the amp that they had to be dialed in in weird ways. This was so confusing that they released alternate models of the amps later that behaved the way people expected. The same could be an issue here. Especially since this modeling seems far more accurate.

      I don't think you can go wrong with either. The Ampero has more to offer in terms of effects and amp modeling, but IME does take some effort to dial out some of the shrillness in the top end. I'll be shooting them out here soon.

      I‘m looking forward to that. I‘m a MG-30 user and learned a bit how dialing in makes huge differences (besides of proper IRs). I think it is a very capable device. Maybe not plug and play but very capable. I‘m curious what you will come up with.

    I am Mooer GE300 Lite + stomp boxes user and I can tell Axe3 just crushed that toy. Axe's midrange and amazingly controled high end are something which modelers as Headrush, Boos, Mooer, Helix incl. Quad Cortex can dream about. Kemper is the only option which can be considered to get great sound too I think.

      @TheDVM1 3 года назад

      @@aptfx I had them both here for about a week. The 30 wasn't as organic sounding to me. The time effects were better but the overall amps just didnt do it for me. For the price I figured the amps would sound better.

    • @aptfx
      @aptfx 3 года назад

      @@TheDVM1 sound is always subjective. So we certainly will not get an objective result here :). I did A/B test them quite a lot in the time and did learn some things that the MG-30 just does differently. For example: You definitely have to take the amp master knob more into account than with the MG-300. There is a very good comparison video by Jimmy Lin which uses the same IR files on MG-300 and MG-30 and it is so very clear there that the MG-30 sounds more detailed and dynamic. (might be the better dynamic range of the MG-30). The MG-300 sounds quite similar but more compressed. As an analogy: To me this is a bit similar to JPEG (MG-300) vs. RAW (MG-30) photography. The RAW contains more detail and processing capabilities and can look the same as the more "finished" camera JPEG with proper settings. Its impossible though to get back the detail and range of RAW in a JPEG. Cheap cameras only offer JPEG and process them to look contrasty, saturated to look tasty. Professional cameras offer RAW which can be processed the same but also quite different. The price: The MG-30 might have a little bit steeper entry learning curve compared to the MG-300. But its worth it in so much ways!

  • @ericvalverderosado2046
    @ericvalverderosado2046 3 года назад

    I wouldn’t ask the question…the circuitry and components used to transform digital into analogue and the way back have a strong impact in the final sound…and for the price the AXE FX 3 will have high end connections and stuff… putting aside the technical talk…is amazing how companies are putting out great sounds at lower prices every time…for me the Axe FX killed the MG30 completely, but in its own cathegory should be competitive…is very usable for us the youngsters that don’t have 3 grand to buy pro stuff…oh, and it would be overkill for a teenager or casual player…so leave the Axe FX to the pros haha

      Its a nice device... but I sold it long before getting the MG-300 (and then MG-30). The GE 200 didn't really stick... sound was solid but the feel was off. The MG-300 was just a test after the mediocre experience with the GE 200... I was quite astonished how good the MG-300 did sound _and_ feel. The MG-30 is quite a bit more versatile and robust. It does even feel better with its 2ms... very direct for a digital device. The sound depends on the quality of the IRs... of course... so it _can_ be extraordinarily good with good IRs. In its price class it is really a leading product

      @@aptfx yes u right. But i think it really depends on what type of music do u play. If u like clean and crunchy tone such as rock music i guess mg 300 and mg30 gonna fit for ur gear, the amp simulation is quiet simmilar to the real marshall. But in other hand the ge 200 and ge 150 on marshall simulation not even close to the real one, i guess the gain is a bit to much. but when it comes to the high gain amp simulation, Me personally gonna go with the ge 200 and 150 bcs the sound is more open for me and the 5150 simulation is really spot on even without the load ir. But mg 30 and 300 when it comes to high gain is a lil bit muddy, there is something low end that i dont really like. Of course if u put some EQ after it is gonna be good, but to much effort i gues. But everything is basically back to our personal preference.
