  • This week is all about the #interior. I wanted to restore the cabin because to me it's really important to have a comfortable, relaxing space that allows me to focus solely on the road. Thanks to everyone who tuned in last week, and I hope you enjoy this new instalment :)

    I'm Matt and this is my channel - The Atypical Workshop. I was diagnosed with Autism in early 2020 and after initially struggling to come to terms with my #neurodiversity, I've since learned to embrace it. My alternative brain wiring allows me to see things from completely different perspectives, and to think of unique solutions that others would likely miss. The name 'Atypical Workshop' came about through the fusion of two very different themes:
    During lockdown, while teaching myself carpentry, I also began watching Atypical (Netflix). The show both helped me to understand what I was going through, and reminded me of how capable I am. On 'The Atypical Workshop' I aim to use my unique skill set to both overcome the challenges I face and provide entertaining and informative content.

    Love it! Looks like you’re in for a good long journey. Be following progress. 🙋🏼
    Also loved the Stereo receiver and LP player at home! Wish I still had all my Sansui set up, reel to reel and LP’s. Certainly miss the quality.

      At some point when the van’s done I’d like to modify the chest of drawers to have a glass top and have the records underneath!

    Have you discovered that the back doors open all the way around to lay on the side panels yet? If not, press the yellow button on each door and swing it around. Loving your videos so far.

      I have! Took me about 3 weeks to realise though haha. It’s missing one of the buttons so I’ll likely make replacements to match whatever design I choose for the panels. Do your doors always stay fully open? One of mine closes back to 90° depending on the lay of the ground below

      @@AtypicalWorkshop Yes, my doors stay open. Push it open firmly and it disengages and will stay open. In your first video I watched, you were not pushing them enough to disengage the laches. Let me know if it works

      @@AtypicalWorkshop Also, there are hundreds of youtube videos of connect camper builds for you to view and get some ideas on how to make these great little campers. I have a 2011 and no skills what-so-ever, lol, but even being an ole lady, I managed to come up with something. Can't wait to see how yours turns out.

    at 06:40, when you used acetone to clean off the old silicone etc, did it not take the top layer of paint off as well?

    • @AtypicalWorkshop
      @AtypicalWorkshop  8 месяцев назад

      Don’t quote me on this, but I think that the lacquer on the paint does a sufficient job at protecting it. I tried less aggressive stuff like white spirit first but it didn’t do much. Sorry for the late response, hope that’s helpful :)

    The shoe polish is that neat or do mix it down with anything ?

    • @AtypicalWorkshop
      @AtypicalWorkshop  2 года назад

      Sometime I’ll treat myself to a double shoe polish and red bull 😉 But no, nothing added. It’s easier to pour it into another container and use one of those washing up sponges mind

    That door gutter strip was "attached" to my van by the previous owner with copious amounts of every adhesive available on the market... Took ages to remove!... I was unable to find a replacement or part number, so I just left it off 😉

    • @AtypicalWorkshop
      @AtypicalWorkshop  2 года назад +1

      I can probably help you to find the part no - do you have a connect or something else?
      Just realised you’re the same person who commented on the other vids - is your connect short or long wheel base?

      Hi! It wasn’t a particular brand I don’t think, just black shoe polish. I transferred the dash when I switched vans and it’s still black now (18 months later perhaps?) hope that helps :)
