As an extraterrestrial evaluator of life on newly discovered planets, I will be submitting this quilt to my leaders as proof that Earth humans, hitherto thought to be violent mindless meat sacks, have the capacity for creativity, mathematics, humor, and beauty, which will exempt the species from emergency planet-saving extermination measures for the next five consecutive centuries, at which point we will reevaluate humanity's progress (or decline). This distinction does not, however, alter my conclusion that dolphins are the best representation of life in this particular solar system.
How freaking fun!! I think it would be so fun to then use these blocks as a basis for important dates - like a birthdate or anniversary, on the back of a quilt. So generations from now you’ll have a trail of quilts dependent on this Rosetta Stone quilt! 🤯
What a great idea! It is a step beyond Moda's temperature quilt! I love your catch phrase "a brown duvet is a cry for help." Again, you are so awesome! Can't wait to see what is next!
Wow another killer video, the closest to a math quilt I made was with a kid-I-fied periodic table quilt, where I used fun prints in the table and only used certain elements to spell words, so not a hard core science quilt. It was for a little boy. Can’t wait until your next video!!!!
Too cool!!! 😎 Great job, Dave!! If I were still teaching, I would display this quilt in my classroom...it would be an EXCELLENT visual aid for many students. Should you decide to find it a Forever Home, please consider donating or gifting it to an elementary school teacher or math teacher in the secondary levels. Bless you!!😍🙏
I'm currently writing about prime numbers in patchwork and quilting and have been trying to find a way to represent them visually. So whilst I don't profess to understand all of this, it's given me a great starting point so thanks very much for that! I love the finished quilt 😊
I taught math many years during my teaching career, started sewing again after retirement. I wish I had seen this amazing project as I was trying to teach prime factorization. So fun!!
I shared this video with my daughter who is not a quilter (she tolerates my quilting channel) but has a math degree loved it! She says your “chaotic” math at the beginning is just the kind of math she likes!
This is so fun and beautiful! You're so right that even mathphobes use math every day. I really like the black lines you used to separate the solids of the same color --they work great with the black sashing. This is the epitome of modern quilting. Isn't free motion embroidery the best? I use it to make labels now because it's quick and easy and I know it will last.
Hey that’s a great idea for the labels, never thought of that! And I doubt I would have thought of doing the numbers with the fm foot either. If you could loosen up, which I think we can all agree Dave does well, it’s a good method.
Love it! There are so many maths charts and diagrams that would make amazing quilts that I've never got round to trying, but maybe I will now after seeing how great this turned out! Thanks for another great video :)
I am in awe! I believe an alien created that chart to begin with. That or a desperate teacher who couldn’t get her students to understand prime numbers. Your quilt is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Once upon a time, I was going to make a sudoku quilt based on a set of fabric in a charm pack. Obviously, with nine different patterns of fabric. I would love to see what you could do with the sudoku quilt. And obviously I started out with a solved puzzle to use as my inspiration.
I stumbled across your channel while looking for FPP advice, and when I saw this quilt, I HAD to make my own version. I've been referring to it as my "super nerdy" quilt -- I decided to hand embroider the numbers and have been working on those while I cover the front desk at work every day. I ended up buying a FQ bundle of solids to go with larger amounts of the fabrics for 2, 3, 5, and 7. I made things harder for myself by piecing all the squares instead of just cutting larger pieces for the blocks with multiples of the same factor and then stitching on the little black divider strips. I'm also thinking I will use some of the leftover fabric to piece some Fibonacci spirals for the backing. Did I mention I've pieced ONE quilt top and have completed ZERO quilts so far?
How did you keep the numbers the same size on the screen. Whenever I try to do this my numbers go smaller and larger. This is probably very simple to do but I am a visual learner. Love this quilt. Melinda
lol when I film my intros I have to turn the AC and fan off because of the noise but then when I speak spontaneously as I'm working, the AC and Fan are back on otherwise it's soooper hot in my craft room on so I'm yelling to be heard over that 😅
they're just the solids I have in my Fabrique Stáche, I didn't buy them like that, I probably bought various solids over the years and when I buy fat quarters I use half a comic book board to fold them all to the same size and arrange them in a beautiful Stack 😜👨🏻
just to be consistent, because all of the blocks had the colors arranged in order of smallest to largest number so I wanted to keep that pattern. I fixed it before I assembled the quilt

🤣🤣🤣
😂❤
You might want to reevaluate sooner. 🤣
How cool is this quilt! Another great episode. Every week I think WHAT will Dave come up with this week? NEVER disappointed! 😍
Greetings! This is one I am going to duplicate. I am a retired math teacher / developer. This sings to my heart and mind. Well done!
yassss !! Thank you 😜

Or you could just buy an advent calendar fabric like the one I got for the grandchildren.
Please remember to hang up your bulleten board so it won't fall on your sewing machine.
Very neat quilt. Would make a great gift for a math teacher!
I like how your brain works. It's delightful to see what you're doing next.

WOW! What a great job! I like when you share the process you go through to create. Thanks!🤠

What an awesome quilt! Next stop… Fibonacci!
Yesssss!❤
This quilt is giving me Mondrian vibes. You come up with the best ideas!!
That was what I was thinking!
I really enjoy this quilt. Simple, complicated and beautiful all in one.
I'm a sped teacher and this is wonderful! For visual learners, I can't explain, it's just all there!
I'm currently writing about prime numbers in patchwork and quilting and have been trying to find a way to represent them visually. So whilst I don't profess to understand all of this, it's given me a great starting point so thanks very much for that! I love the finished quilt 😊
This was great! It reminded me of binary code. I think a binary code quilt would look good too. You are so creative!
You have got the attention of teachers who quilt. Brilliant idea.
I taught math many years during my teaching career, started sewing again after retirement. I wish I had seen this amazing project as I was trying to teach prime factorization. So fun!!
Math geek here. Your quilt is delightful!
I'm feeling dizzy Dave! What an idea and so we'll executed. Love it!
I like it starting with 1 in the upper left. Excellent and your embroidery method is an inspiration to me.
What a wonderful idea! Great work done! I love that quilt!
What a great idea! It’s a perfect gift for math or elementary teachers to hang in their classrooms.

Love this. 60's vibe especially as color blocking was used in clothing.
Very intriguing, love the concept and the colors. Great challenge, perfect wall hanging quilt. 🙂

Another Super Cool Quilt❣️
👍 Chris

I love this quilt, and I agree, I would start with one in the upper left also.
Dave, your spirit❤. I'm not a stalker, but do put your Playlist on. While cleaning, sewing, or for the dogs when I leave.
Wow amazing. You are such the artist. Thank you bringing us along for this.
Awesome quilt, Thanks for sharing. You are so talented!!❤
I love this idea. I might have to try it too. I might quilt the black lines with black thread...
Absolutely beautiful!! Your talent for quilting amazes me. I sew wheelchair blankets but use very basic quilt patterns.
Another winner!! ❤
Love how you put odd pieces of quilts and they look great and r so meaningful.
Awesome creativity!
U r CrAzY, Dave!!! Nothing intimidates your Creative FLOW!!!
That'd be fun for a math teacher to have!
I am in awe!

It kind of has a Mondrian painting vibe going on. Really cool!
Vous êtes toujours très impressionnant de créativité ! Bravo.
Simply fabulous! ❤️
another great job.👍
Primo! I like your techniques and feel this will assist with my temperature quilt WIP…. Thanks
love your videos! i look forward to them every tuesday 💕💕
Love it! I've been working on a math-based design in my head and I think you just helped me simplify my process. Thanks!
So, so cool and clever. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Just fantastic.
Your talent is amazing!
I made your math quilt. Thanks for the inspiration.
Love this quilt.
Moi qui aime les mathématiques, je trouve ton idée géniale.
Great Dave. I want to borrow your speed up method, I could be so much more efficient. 😂

You are an amazing young man!

Very cool 🎉
Love this! So fun
Bravo! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I hope you go to your county fair and sit and sew❤. You are inspiring.
Faa-a-a-aabulous!! 💜💚💛
How much fun would this be?? Looks kinda like a Villa Rosa Pattern
Love this !
Very cool
What a great gift for a teacher!
So cool! Love the concept. And you made it look so easy! (Which I know it is not!)
How did you keep the numbers the same size on the screen. Whenever I try to do this my numbers go smaller and larger. This is probably very simple to do but I am a visual learner. Love this quilt. Melinda
I love it!!!!
Thanks for video
Nailed it!
What a great idea. Though, I would have just embroidered wide black lines onto the squares instead of gluing tape to them.
the washable glue was only for basting, I sewed the tape on
Wow, how clever you are. My brain hurts thinking about it. How long did it take you to make if you don't mind sharing that?
I think a couple of weekends :P
So great! I love your videos and the music you choose. ALSO DID YOU KNOW YOU ARE YELLING WITH AIRPODS IN.
lol when I film my intros I have to turn the AC and fan off because of the noise but then when I speak spontaneously as I'm working, the AC and Fan are back on otherwise it's soooper hot in my craft room on so I'm yelling to be heard over that 😅
❤❤❤
this is awesome, I love it! :D
Can you tell us about that big beautiful stack of solids? Did you buy them put together like that? Fat quarters?
they're just the solids I have in my Fabrique Stáche, I didn't buy them like that, I probably bought various solids over the years and when I buy fat quarters I use half a comic book board to fold them all to the same size and arrange them in a beautiful Stack 😜👨🏻
Another masterpiece 👏
I looked at the inspiration quilt but I cand figure out the math you got no matter how many showers I take. Is it a RGB chart?
It's a prime numbers factorization chart 😜
Don’t get a big head, but you are amazing!
i love it
It looks like the designer of this chart is Sondra Eklund
❤
Just a question...
Did you fix that blue brown block?
#26 i think it is
Thank you
Multiplication is commutative, so the blue doesn’t need to be on the left. ❤️
it does for the consistency of the pattern, the smaller number was always on the left
Me like though my head hurts a little.
What does it matter if the blue is on the right or the left?
just to be consistent, because all of the blocks had the colors arranged in order of smallest to largest number so I wanted to keep that pattern. I fixed it before I assembled the quilt
A ++++++
Oh.????
Love it!!
Love this!
