- Since 2009, all the night trains that I saw during my travels in Japan.
Many have disappeared, and in 2015 there are only a few, but in march Twilight Express & Hokutosei will also disappear.
This is my tribute to all those beautiful trains that we will not see.
The only remaining overnight train is sunrise express (izumo/seto). Feeling so sad that all dining trains too have vanished. The previous decade was a curse for them. But the video was good to show the old classics which shall remain in our hearts.
Awesome video. The outside decoration of Twilight express is very similar to the regular trains in Chinese railway.
Very typical in China, Mongola and post-USSR trains
The Cassiopeia train, the nihon Kal, and the akebono trains do seasonal runs

Thank you for sharing your video, I love the natural sounds. We film natural walks through soulful cities mainly in Europe so it's lovely to see others doing similar slow tv, in places we haven't been to (but now feel we have). We really enjoyed absorbing your video and losing ourselves in it. We look forward to seeing more and have subscribed.
Thank you for the video - now i can get the detailing correct for my own Hokutosei set
( Micro Ace ho gauge - just the one car - Oshi 24 bought for a sample - the others will follow, so it's great to see exactly where the exterior lining needs to go plus interior colour schemes )
also the Sevenstar in Kyushu is still operates
It's sad that the green twilight express was been replaced by a shinkansen like train
A wonderful compilation - thank you for sharing this. Alas, as here in the UK, with long distance trains departing/arriving earlier and later in the day, there is no longer the demand for overnight Sleeper trains. I enjoyed the interior views also, but these look more like the "couchette" coaches found in France - do they have actual Sleeper compartments also? The rolling stock on the Cassiopeia looks very modern, I hope it is not discontinued as well. Best wishes from Scotland!

the remaining sleeper trains that i know is:Sunrise Express,Twilight Express Mizukaze and Train suite-shikishima.
also west express ginga which started service this year
those are not considered overnight sleeper trains, except sunrise express. all the other mentioned trains are just used for special occasions or for tourism. no use for overnight sleeping express.

the last of the loco hauled overnight sleeper trains ended with Cassiopeia in 2016. the last loco hauled overnight sleeper train with the famous "blue train" cars ended with Hokutosei in 2015. Now, the Sunrise Express Izumo & Seto is the last remaining overnight sleeper train in Japan.
