When I was a Sailor(Artillery Sergeant actually) on an auxilliary ship/Tender of the German Navy(A516 Tender Donau, a 100mtr ship with the bridge 15mtrs above the sea), we had a storm with 10-12 meter waves for a week. To this day, I remember thinking" just imagine being in a life raft now" while listening to people in distress on channel 16....Kudos you frigging awesome Frenchy with your walrus beard:)
Over the last half year I watched almost every single video on this channel. You are a true inspiration, please go on making videos for us and I really hope you will find a sponsor for your latest racing plans. I especially love it when you explain board routines, fixing methods and weather patterns and how they lead your decisions. Greetings from Germany, fair winds
Hugo a truly great piece of work from a true master, you must have had a great crew that you trained so well , congrats on conveying the scale & challenge of the conditions . JB.
Fantastic work, and fantastic sailing. You captured some great footage, giving one a real sense of the conditions, and the editing and scoring are great! I'm so impressed with how chill everyone seems to be under those conditions, and the amount of skill and effort it must take to hand steer in 60 knots with huge waves, much respect to the whole crew. That thing sails like freight train racing down a mountain late for a date, what a beauty. Thanks for sharing!
Très impressionnant on voit bien la série de ces monstres vagues de 10m....un grand Bravo pour cette traversée , la façon dont tu expliques cette traversée est intéressante car il y a un peu de technique hâte de voir the next one, and take care of you ...the sailing french Man
Thanks for showing me something I’d never see otherwise, Hugo you go! Looks like you almost got pooped by that big series of waves, thank god your boat is so fast!
That sailing was hardcore! Everyone is keeping casual but at the same time is well aware that lives depend on each other. And these are people you have just met! Really tested the limits. On top of that, you caught some epic images. The size of those waves was evident. (Not like being there, but...) And, the Best Hardcore Sailing Video goes to... The Sailing Frenchmen!
Incredible filming .I am always amazed at the speed these boats go with a tiny sliver of canvas.shows you the rage of the wind.and nobody is scared just waving and smiling.
I have been watching your videos from the beginning. I have enjoyed them all but this one has even surpassed Ep. 20 when you had to give up on Madeira and head instead to the Canary Islands. Same dry humor and excepting the challenges as they come your way. As I remember in Ep. 20 you said, "C'est la vie, that's sailing." Looking forward to your next entry. Cheers.
"Try to get 4 hours asleep before going on again whoop whoop " that is the the type of crew I'd drop all to join a leg !!! always loved your attitude about the blue 🌬️💨🤙🏻
Another leg smacked over! The power of those boats is amazing. It must be an amazingly exhilarating/terrifying experience helming them. It was helming a 45 ft Mull designed mono hull in a good strong wind that had me in love with sailing. The thrumming through the boat to the wheel was truly exciting!
Love it! Been there, done that, can't wait to get back out there. Thanks for the inspiration! I have another year or so to go, here ashore. Fair winds to all.
Yeah. First time I've ever seen swells appearing to be mountains around a canyon. My video experience has been watching young cruisers. They avoid such weather, but they always say that the camera can't truly capture the seastate. I wanted to do what they do when I was their age, but a chart, a compass, a Loran, a sextant, and a Bowditch didn't appeal to me.
Fantastic! I've taken a break from your channel - from when you got your small boat together in France - while doing some sailing of my own, so great to catch up with you again.
From about 9.31, 'The camera can't really capture this'. Well it really did. That whole bit going through the storm was magnificent. Thanks for capturing it. Cheers. Paul.
Well im glad iv got that windward 40kt+ out of my system , Now enjoy trade sailing with the wind & NO time restraints , 25 deg. ever side of the equator . Life is not a rehearsal enjoy .Great vid thanks
Happy Birthday Hugo!! Loving the Vlog, it's been incredible insight into The Clipper Race + your travels. All the best to team Ha Long Bay, tracking you all on race viewer every day mate!! So excited for you.
Good training for the mini... Except that it will not be allowed to have weather forecast 😉 Great video again thanks to let us live a little bit South seas... 👍
Hay man, another fantastic video!! You and your footage has got to be the best advert for the Clipper race. Watching this I just wish I was there... even with 10m waves and 80knt gusts!! WOOP WOOP :-)
Amazing episode. I wish I could see what that looked like irl. But then again: I will probably never. Im not gonna sail in those conditions with anything less than 60ft lol
Très bel épisode. Les images dans les dépressions sont magnifiques. Bon vent pour l'étape qui commence. J'espère que vous pourrez croquer du dragon rouge ce coup-ci et que la pétole ne vous jouera pas de vilains tours.
I was on Visit Sanya, China for leg 1 of this race, and you are absolutely right! It's like they were fitted out by someone who'd never been on a boat before :) Actually, that's unfair, they're great boats generally, absolutely rock solid, and far more comfy than the earlier 68s. Never once did I feel my life was in danger, and as people have said those waves don't look much in the video, but when you're there it's mind-blowing!
Great video, thanks for sharing!! Loved the conversations at the beginning, nice to see some relaxed moments and friendship. LOVED the high wind/wave footage. I hope to do something like that some day soon! I’m just getting my mirage27 ready for some ocean sailing. You’ve been a really inspiration, thanks!! I hope/expect this video will gather a lot of views for you!
This is amazing to see.. is a petty that clipper race don’t have daily media cameras and films like the Ocean Race or The Atlantiques Vblogs from the boats. You are doing a great job. That’s why for me is difficult to follow, only written blogs pictures and the track.. that’s not how 21 century race around the world builds fans
Big water, 12 knots, what a rush. I can see why the ships old took this passage, to Cape Town on to the IO, to Australia. I look forward to seeing you in Seattle, WA, U.S.A.
I got in the spirit of this by propping my armchair up at 30 degrees and sitting on the high side. Wonderful vlog.

Greetings from Germany, fair winds
Nils Töpfer so true
Nils Töpfer May I recommend Erik Aanderaa too? His videos are amazing, he sails solo in North Sea and Norwegian Sea. Crazy winter passages etc
Thx for sharing! Pics of the 40s with 60kn of wind are rare … and beautiful!
These are by far the best videos about the clipper race!!!!
This video is as close to those conditions as I ever want to get, that is amazing.
If you want to watch SAILING...this is where it's at ! Well done..narration and photography. Great stuff...
Wow! Never thought that you sailing across The Atlantic in your little boat with your dad would lead to this! Crazy and amazing sailing. Well done.
The real beauty of sailing. Respect very skilled sailor with a ruther excellent Boat. 👍
Nice shots, You can really see the wild ocean.
Amazing Mother Nature, you got a good yacht to handle it
Ocean Sailing.... hours of boredom interspersed with moments of shear acceleration.
thanks for taking us along for the ride
That's some outrageous sailing. Well done
Great video, thank you! Fair winds for race 7; hope you've had a good night's sleep, we'll all be cheering you on Hugo.
GoPro’s and the like are very good at making scarily big waves look tame due to the extremely wide angle lens. Those are BIG swells!
I had to stop working on the refit of my sailboat to watch this as soon I got the notification!! Love your vids!!
Hugo a truly great piece of work from a true master, you must have had a great crew that you trained so well , congrats on conveying the scale & challenge of the conditions . JB.
Haha, cheers JB, great job on that leg, tough one, hope you're doing well
Awesome! Love your videos and adventure. They are inspiring. Thanks for sharing you mad Frenchman.

Superb vid, as spectacular images as you'll ever see. Loved the sweet trumpet at 3:45

This video is incredible. Congratulations for having even experienced it. Thank you for letting me see it.
Congratulations. Fantastic video. Wild conditions watching UNICEF go like a runaway train. wow!
Great wild sea footage capture...low preassure after low preassure.....yeah man thats true ocean sailing.
The quality and production values of your videos are excellent. I've seen them all and you've gotten better and better. Thanks for the enjoyment.
Thanks for showing me something I’d never see otherwise, Hugo you go! Looks like you almost got pooped by that big series of waves, thank god your boat is so fast!

and yet, convert those knots to km/h 😂

Je n’avais pas encore fait de commentaire, mais la. Wow. Bravo. Un vrai plaisir cet episode!
Love it! Been there, done that, can't wait to get back out there. Thanks for the inspiration! I have another year or so to go, here ashore.
Fair winds to all.
Amazing camera work. The closest I've seen to capturing the waves as they appear from the boat.
Yeah. First time I've ever seen swells appearing to be mountains around a canyon. My video experience has been watching young cruisers. They avoid such weather, but they always say that the camera can't truly capture the seastate. I wanted to do what they do when I was their age, but a chart, a compass, a Loran, a sextant, and a Bowditch didn't appeal to me.
magnifique!! impressionnant la vitesse du voilier avec un tourmentin et un bout de GV
This is lovely beyond words. Thanks for letting us see those images.
Fantastic! I've taken a break from your channel - from when you got your small boat together in France - while doing some sailing of my own, so great to catch up with you again.
Best ocean racing vid I've seen
Absolutely incredible accomplishment.....certainly in the sailing elite!!!!

Hey, happy birthday to you ;)
Like stated befor , Just the best sailing video expresion ever.
That boat is sending it downwind! Epic what a ride!
Beautiful. Must have been a great experience! I see some kind of fish jumping at 13:37 I can't identify!
Quality leadership Josh and Hugo!
Good training for the mini... Except that it will not be allowed to have weather forecast 😉
Great video again thanks to let us live a little bit South seas...
👍
Marc Gini yes !! The mini the mini for Hugo !!!
Hay man, another fantastic video!! You and your footage has got to be the best advert for the Clipper race. Watching this I just wish I was there... even with 10m waves and 80knt gusts!! WOOP WOOP :-)
Beautiful. I'm particularly fascinated by how the crew lives below deck.
Hugo.I see a leader a champion, a hero, you are indeed a brave man. Salut
WOW. You all are crazy ! But looks amazing and would give anything to experience a crossing in a high tech ship like this. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️.
Mes respects. Je crois que je ne suis pas prêt. Bravo pour tes montage et merci de ce partage d'expérience.
Awesome video! Must also see Sailing into Freedom’s Exile at Sea series - just amazing!
I want to go in the storm now. Amazing sailing, amazing images.
Thanks for sharing - good content
I know this is never forgotten. I also liked this road very much - near Horn there were waves of 16 meters and winds up to 80 knots ..
Très belles images Hugo !!!
Merci .
Great video as usual... I'm really enjoying joining you on this adventure and feel like I'm learning a lot!
Yea man, that is big stuff. I have seen over 12m, and the camera never shows the reality. Good video, thanks.
The crew talking about how they're preparing for wind reminded me of a scene i've seen in a 100 scary films.
What vessel was used ? Maker and size?
@@spatus75 USCSS Nostromo.
Amazing episode. I wish I could see what that looked like irl. But then again: I will probably never. Im not gonna sail in those conditions with anything less than 60ft lol
Meraviglioso. Beati voi,vi invidio.
Great to see you again Josh!
exciting new video .. love storms
The courage and stability to bring a camera on deck in these conditions…..that says a lot about the skipper.
awesome Froggy...keep on trucking!
Très bel épisode. Les images dans les dépressions sont magnifiques.
Bon vent pour l'étape qui commence. J'espère que vous pourrez croquer du dragon rouge ce coup-ci et que la pétole ne vous jouera pas de vilains tours.
I absolutely love that guys moustache! 👍🏼😍💯
Very good passage. Bravo !
WOOT! WOOT! That was amazing. Far cry from sailing a little boat single handed across the Atlantic. Wow.
Outstanding!
Crazy boats.. It's like the constructors went, that looks like something comfortable, let's get rid of it... ☺ Cool video...
I was on Visit Sanya, China for leg 1 of this race, and you are absolutely right! Respect! I love the ocean
Great episode you and the crew deserve a few beers after that leg of the race!
wow, that is great - what a nice boat 😄👍
c'est tres bien!! merci beaucoup!!
Superbes images.. merci
I would just love to sail in those conditions, thanks for update :-)
Interesting trip! The yacht is air, life!

The feeling of surfing on 10+m high waves must be an incredible experience !
Que gran espectaculo, realmente es un regalo de la naturaleza y un privilegio estar ahí.
