  • There are several #WVU football teams who are worthy of being in consideration for the best team in program history, but only one can claim that title. Today, we go through our Sweet 16 and Elite 8 of WVU's all-time teams.

The 1993 team should always be highly commended for going undefeated. They fought adversity and actually played a pretty tough schedule!

    This is easy.
1988 hands down the best WVU football team ever. It wasn’t just Major. WVU had 5 5th year seniors on the OL. Maj only threw the ball between 12-20 times a game. He was the X factor that could create when everything else failed. But the offense wasn’t resting on majors shoulders. They had a loaded backfield with A.B. Brown, Undra Johnson & Eugene Napoleon. Don’t forget Craig Taylor at fullback. The man was the fullback for 4 years and never and I mean NEVER lost a yard on ANY carry. Still one of the most amazing stats I’ve ever heard.
Recent corp were solid as hell. Reggie Rembert (22.7 ypc) (Chris Henry before Chris Henry); Calvin Phillips (25.5), Jamie Lemon (17.1 ypc), Keith Winn (13.8), Grants Bell (24.4).
    Defense was stout as hell.
    DL: Mike Fox, Chris Parker
LB: Renoldo Turbull (IYKYK), Chris Haering, Steve Grant, Dale Jackson, Theron Eliss (bad mofo) and Robert Pickett (whick’d pickett) man hit like a ton of bricks.
The secondary had Bo Orlando who in his smaller stature than the rest of the D benched over 400. Also they had Darrell “Hitmore” Whitmore.
More importantly they went 11-0 and legitimately played for the national championship.
I recently watched the game in full against an absolutely loaded ND team and you can’t tell me that our OL and DL/LB/DB didn’t go toe to toe with those clowns on every play.
They in no way were out matched from a talent perspective.
It is easy to pick the 93’ team as the second best team but it wasn’t. It was an amazingly scrappy bunch that beat some very good Miami and BC teams in incredible memorable fashion.
But the second best WVU team was the 2007 squad.
Easily could have beat any team and had the chance to prove it but blew it for numerous reasons on that fateful night.

The 2018 team when healthy, could beat anyone.

They were healthy against Iowa State and got Oklahoma State and got completely out coached.

@@tylercoltsfan55 Both games were certainly a bummer, beating OKst basically the entire game and the wheels fell off the last few minutes. I don’t think they took Iowa St serious because they had a bad record at the time. Who knew that Brock Purdy would take over and with Montgomery, and Butler they would win 7 of last 8.
