- Solitude is a meditative and imagination driven experience if you're giving your mind the right tools. Every person who paints and creates in this hobby is important. I'm pointing the finger at you, your creative comfort matters. I hope these words resonate with you. Not everything is for everyone and that's fine if they don't, I wish you the best.

Someone said that the word loneliness is there to describe the pain of being alone, while the word solitude is there to describe the glory of being alone. This hobby is solitary, but not lonely.
Thanks for adding this :) Sounds like Schopenhauer.
Amen. Have fun in your chosen cave, and I'll see you and your creations when we're both good and ready to come out again! 🙂
We meet at the all-thing! Thanks as always, Brent. Your encouragement on this was helpful.
My aunt used to say "If you are miserable when you are alone, you are your own worse company.". I always think about that when I feel lonely then remember I just gotta be better to myself and enjoy the peace. Thanks for the message and remain unchained 🤘🏼
That's a wise aunt. Cheers to her :)
As an introverted metalhead who paints miniatures… thank you for this video!
Painting is where the world gets calm and quiet for me. It's always been great for my mental health and just wellbeing. Thanks for sharing man.
"We live in a world of geese"
Never a truer word said.
😅😅😅
Next merch idea.
Congratulations on that Golden Demon, Sam. Well deserved.
"We live in a world of geese and instant gratification." Slow down, go time blind and enjoy. Great message, sir.
Thanks for the words of wisdom, Sam. Nobody I know is into mini painting or wargaming in general. It's nice to hear that it's okay to live in that space and thrive to become better. In solitude.
Glad we caught up at Adepticon. I know YT has been frustrating, but I've already expressed how grateful I (and I'm assuming others) are about your excursions into the mind of our collective hobby.
Thanks man.
Thanks for listening haha, I'm a pretty open book kind of person. See you in 2025!
As a man who prefers the silence of solitude, this art form is the only activity I do that makes me feel more rested after I’m done.
"Everything else that is there, you choose to be there" As a writer first and a crappy mini painter second, I love this. Thanks for the reminders!
Glad to hear that :)
"We live in a world of geese... and instant gratification" 😂 New favourite quote
When I take time off work, my preference is to stay at home as much as possible. Painting miniatures, conjuring up ideas for future projects, cooking and experimenting. This time is far more valuable to me than an expensive holiday full of schedules and unfamiliarity with my surroundings. There is something special about being content within one's own company.
Them some true words!
Hell yeah man. I definitely enjoy my quiet time painting. It helps declutter the mind and push the worries of the world to the background for awhile.
every time i read the word solitude, i have that same named song from colour haze in my head. i'll imagine you like that band sam.
my step dad died a little bit over a year ago, looking back, yeah its crazy how fast time goes, but sitting on my desk, working on miniatures always gets me into that zen like state of meditation and peace of mind
Thank you for sharing your journey, your solitude you describe has shown a great example of what positives can come through your hardships, commitment and experiences. Your grace and tutoring in your videos is fantastic. Always refreshing to watch your content. Looking forward to your next video.
Wise words
Truly understand what you're feeling.
Thank you for those simple and sincere words.
Thanks Sam. Is it weird that this is exactly the type of video I like to see from one of the worlds best painters? Congrats on your Golden Demon!
This is some nice advice, I actively tried to fill my painting room with cute and candy themed things- just like how I like to paint and listening to this only further validated that choice. 🎉 it was nice to see you at Adepticon, will be following your painting journey all the more!
Heck yeah! It doesn't have to be a dungeon, it can be a stronghold ⛓️
Thank you for the wisdom. Safe travels to all of you out there on your own paths.
I cannot agree more on that second part. Many thanks to you!
I went fishing the last couple days to get some alone time. Finding solitude in nature is good for the soul.
Beautiful ⛓️
A very important reminder that time spent in solitude is an integral part of being present for ourselves and our loved ones- thank you, Sam 💚
Hello Sam, just watched your solitude video and have to agree 100% with you, having been through some rough tirés, i found out that painting at my campgroud gave me new énergies and focus for my painting. I even builded myself a portable paint station with an autonomus ( up to 4 hours) power for my lamp and cell ( for inspiration or music ) and all that can be cartier in a carrying case...... thanks for the inspiration and keep slaying the grey...
Sam, if you wrote a book on painting and your philosophy, I'd read it every day. Motivating stuff.
The best part of painting is the happy, content solitude. Look forward to seeing what comes of this year and what you create! ⛓️⛓️
Cheers to that, Birthday bro ⛓️
I find the creative process akin to the "slow time" from Iain M. Banks's "The Algebraist." The world wheels by outside at breakneck speed, while you inhabit a different dimension of steady and deliberate action.
ALL HAIL THE CREATIVE SOLITUDE!!!
As a dad with 2 kids solitude is the most treasured thing I can imagine. Especially because it is so hard to achieve.
As someone who currently is feeling incredibly lonely and unloved despite having a larger number of good friends than ever before, I really have to learn how to enjoy solitude again. This video hit hard to be honest and I agree with every word you said not only in regards to the hobby but in regards to life itself. Painting was a good way for me to forget my troubles in the last few years but nowadays I struggle to even pick up a brush, because I can't enjoy my solitude anymore.
Also a fantastic band.
Needed this more than any video focusing on technique at this point. Thanks so much. Hoping to see more related videos in the future...
Glad this has a place for you. I'm going to change my channel and make more videos in this line, while still making tutorials on Patreon. Cheers!
Amen mate.
Great video. I'm definitely living in a world of geese right now
As somebody who pretty much only has time to paint late at night and into the early morning, I can 100% relate. I have found a very peaceful time to do my hobby work while the world around me is asleep. I am almost always in solitude when I paint as well and I absolutely cherish that time. Great video Sam!
Sage words dude, and really excellent advice. rock on!
Thank you :)
this is where death metal bands go to come up with their logos
Thanks, Sam!
Thank you for your message, love this so much !
Thank you for this video, Sir. It was just what I needed.
I miss your philosophy vids, you make a great guru.
👍
Strong words bro! respect!
thanks for this video man. and thanks for your creations also.
Thank you for this, Sam.
Great video! Really enjoyed this discussion in addition to the usual painting tutorials
Well said. And now I must listen to Candlemass. Thank you!
Haha, you are bewiiiitched!
A lovely video. I know exactly what you mean and speak of. Keep on happy painting, Sam!
Thank you, Roman 🙏 You're an inspiration and you don't owe me anything for that. Always happy that you appreciate my work 💚
Beautifully said.
There’s a certain peace in solitude and it is comforting. It’s also a chance to reflect and let your mind wonder while being in the moment of painting
My fortress of soluitude is in a basement, where it's cold in the winter and chilly in the summer, so I'm never half naked, but I'm always comfortable there.
I may not be half naked but I can very much relate to everything else you said. And even if you're painting with others there can be this very special almost sacral quite when 15 people don't make a sound each concentrated in each's wotk.
Thanks man
This is excellent!
Needed this. 🤘
Well said 🍻
Thanks for this video. I’ve been in a very dark place for a while and having trouble “unchaining” from it. Painting has indeed been my safe place, my happy place where I can focus on the figure I front of me and bringing them alive . I’m a fellow cheesehead by the way born in Prairie du Chien.
Thank you Sam! I always appreciate hearing the thoughtful things you have to say. I think it can be easy to forget why we do what we do - especially when we’ve done it for so long. This video really helped me to find my focus on that original feeling that matters most, why I started this hobby in the first place
Could t agree more. I am someone who has trouble with attention in some areas. Painting however I can spend hours doing it 😀mom not even close to your level neither will I ever be most likely. I am however, good enough for me and I’m improving all the time and enjoying the trip !!!
thanks dude!
Solitude 🙏🏻
This is exactly what I needed to hear after a day spent removing mould lines. Cheers ✌️
A very heavy metal album cover vibe horns up brother
Horns up! Many thanks.
Lovely video with a great message, Sam.
Thanks you, Martin :)
Thank you for this video and message.
Great Video Sam. I’ve been embracing my solitude as I get older.
Great advice. Thank you.
Great meeting you at Adepticon. Great video too, I live singly yet I never feel lonely.
Alone doesn't mean lonely.
Well said :) Nice meeting you, too. 2025, here come!
Sam as an artist and a father one of the reasons I spend so much time painting is not so much the process of painting itself but in that moment of solitude for me it’s more like solace it provides me with time to think about all things in different and new perspectives and helps me to open my mind up and dust away stubborn thoughts and lighten my views on all things generally that are going on in my life while focusing on my painting and sculpting, So my time alone gives me Focus and Perspective…. Oh and just like those geese I have cats that don’t give two shits about my process and something come in like a wrecking ball of chaos and I love them to death lol so I guess I should add Acceptance to that list too, but when you have cats you know you’re not really alone…they’re there somewhere even when you can’t see them watching! always watching lol
Haha, the only defense against cats ate High Elf Spearman. But we don't want to wage war. Thanks for adding this. Painting time is a sanctuary for a lot of us and it's a little different for each person.
This!
Beautiful / Metal, thanks Sam.
May there be 1,000 horses in your herd ⛓️
This video was beautiful friend, thanks for sharing it.
Thanks, Brandon! We'll meet again ⛓️
Alone time is the best time.
Agreed, look what it's given us. Self reliance. Cheers, man!
Cool shirt, btw. Some kind of Bolt Thrower inspired Kill Team thing?
Well put
Awesome video. Sad your class at NOVA is sold out, but hopefully I'll get to at least say hi. 🤘
You can always come and observe if the seats are full. I don't mind:)
Yeah.
Let’s gooo - thanks Sam - u r a legend
Thanks man, I'm a nobody out in the woods at the end of the day and that feels good :)
We are all 100% alone ~ Jesse Lee Peterson
Orkz is never beaten
Sometimes the voices I need to hear the loudest are the most quiet.
Truth, you have be aware of what you're taking in.
We should also be thankful we don't live in a world of instant geese
That's a lovely message mate.
Cheers, man!
I hate people too ❤
;)
Don't make me watch and subscribe. Uncle Atom is the punkiest of punk toilets. And i thought i only needed 1 place to .....
