I tried this and it didn't work. Then I read a comment with a suggestion to pull the fuses on each side (driver/passenger). I tried that and also waited for longer with both fuses out. I also opened both doors... Then both doors didn't work! So I turned the door to manual and closed the driver side (which had always been working fine previously), then it worked again. So I manually closed the passenger side, and immediately heard the motor drawing it closed for the last inch - fixed! It wasn't doing that previously. Thanks for your video, and to others, don't give up immediately, I had to try those things and give a more thorough attempt and it worked. Very relieved.

I just want to say, I have been working on this door for over 2 hours trying to figure out why it would not work after I changed out the sliding center hinge. Honda wanted $89 for the hinge and I bought it on the internet for $18. I have been going crazy trying to figure out why the automatic feature would not work. I found this RUclips video that is easy to understand and works perfectly. It is amazing to me that Honda would make something like this and not tell you how to fix it. The Manuel says to take it to the dealer. What a joke!
Thank you for this video! You made my life so much easier today!

I read about the fuse method some months ago on a couple forums, but hesitated to try it, for whatever reason. I started looking again for a solution, this time for a van maintenance place. Good thing I came by this video; I forgot about the fuse method. I would have wasted who knows how much money. I did the fuse method just like the video, and it worked exactly as explained. Thanks a million.

we have gone all summer without the passenger side door working because someone really pulled on the handle and door too hard and it stopped working. We thought that it dislodged a cable or the motor burned out, but it was just this one simple homing trick that did it. Thank you so much for showing this. It saved us a lot of money.

Thank you for taking the time to make and share this video. My trouble was “slide door” light came on after closing right passenger sliding door. I pressed control to open it and it would not do anything. The left sliding door will not open as well. I searched on RUclips for fix, found videos that talks about pulling fuse #7 from driver side, which worked to cancel “slide door” light and fixed left sliding. Right sliding door still not working. I found your video and you mentioned fuse on side of front passenger sit. I pulled it out, waited 10 seconds, and it did fix the problem, but “slide door” light came back on after 2nd try of opening right sliding door. So I pulled out fuse #8 on the right side and then pulled out fuse #7 on left side to reset both. Pushed back fuse #8 on right fuse box and then the fuse #7 on the driver side. Both sliding doors will work but after restarting engine it will trip “slide door” light again causing the right sliding door to stop working again. I will give it another try and drive the van, hopefully it will reset the system

I don't know if it was your suggestion to do the fuses on each side, but I tried that and also waited for longer with both fuses out. Thanks to your comment, I gave the whole fuse thing a more thorough attempt and it worked. Very relieved.

My passenger side sliding door (2006) had not worked for over a month and was told many times that only a mechanic could fix that. I followed your video step by step and WALA, it works!!! Super excited, thank you for this post!

  • @muchlatersooner

    From the video....
    1. Pull fuse # 7 (a red 7.5 Amp fuse for the "Back Up" circuit) from the Driver's side fuse box.
    2. Move the sliding door switch on the dashboard to the on position.
    3. Put the ignition key in the ignition switch. Even with the Driver's door open, you won't here the beep-beep-beep nagging you that your key is in the ignition.
    4. Turn the key from the 0 position to the II position. The car will now be "on" but the engine will not be running.
    5. Move the sliding door switch on the dashboard to the on position.
    6. Turn the ignition key back to the 0 position and remove the key.
    7. Replace the # 7 fuse.
    8. Put the ignition key back in the ignition switch.
Congratulations, your door is now "homed."

I was ready to blow the van up! I tried all the other tricks and figured I was the exception. I went out at 11:20 at night to try this one last time so my kids didn't have problems tomorrow at school. Low and behold, THE DOOR OPENED! If it wasn't for Jesus, I'd be going to hell for sure after all the cussing I went through. THANK YOU and Jesus!

Awesome! We have a 2008 Odyssey that I just replaced the roller assembly on, and couldn't get it to work in automatic mode I spent a half hour searching bad internet and finally someone who knows what to do. Followed your instructions and it worked great the first time. Thanks for the video!

  • @jmilesmu

Awesome! Thanks. Worked great....second time after I realized I was reading fuse box label wrong and pulled wrong fuse. This was after spending a lot of time and frustration replacing/aligning new middle rollers just right. Your reset video completed the job. Dealership quoted me around $500 for repair. I paid about $75 for replacement rollers (both doors), spent some time researching how to videos on you tube, spent a few hours total on labor, and everything worked out for a lot less than dealer!! Thanks again!!!

Thank you so much for sharing. You just helped a mechanic! I just purchased an 05 Odyssey and the first time I opened the door I caused a problem. I knew there had to be some kind of "reset" or "initialization" procedure to get it right, but I did not know how to do it. (I'm a Ford mechanic by the way). I appreciate it!

This is exactly what the issue was for me. I just followed the instruction and it worked like a charm.
It was the Monday morning thing and I said....man now I have to take this to a dealer and pay them some hefty money to repair this sliding door issue. In my case it was sliding door on driver that didn't work and the "Slide Door" light was 'ON' on the dashboard.
    Many thanks to this video.

I had to pull both 7.5 amp fuses on my 2007 Odyssey after it got a Krown underspray .. actually had to leave them out for a good while then the doors latched again properly. (Backup on the left side and illumination on the right.)
I had actually pulled the 20 amp fuses as well and then nothing electrical worked after that for a short while .. not even the electric locks.. directly with the switch or by the remote.. don't panick if that happens to you too. It seems to all be working again now..
It happened to both doors at the exact time, I am rather confident that it is an electrical issue and not mechanical..
    Thanks for posting this video..
    Cheers..Luis

Thank you so much for this!! It worked immediately.
Only thing I would add is manually open doors before starting. Then after replacing fuse turn key to II position then manually close doors. Then switch button to ON position for sliding doors and test.
The 1st attempt with the doors closed had no change.
The 2nd attempt with doors open (as discussed in other forums you referenced) but not closing doors resulted in neither door operating with power.
The 3rd attempt I manually closed the doors and thought OK give it one more shot. And wallah both doors open with power!!!

Thanks for clarifying that for at least the 2005 Honda Odyssey, it is the driver's side #7 fuse for "back Up", located on the driver's side, not the #7 or # 8 fuse on the passenger side. I wasted a bunch of time chasing my tail based on other instructions that were constantly saying passenger side.

FYI if you have a 2002 odssey: I just bought a used 2002 odyssey, you don't have to do all these steps. I just slid the switch for the sliding doors to off, then pulled fuse #13 on passenger fuse box for 30 seconds, the label is clock/ backup. put the fuse back in, slide your door switch back to ON position, boom it fixed it

Thank You! this helps. Some say its on the passenger side, some say its under the hood, but neither is the correct one. The correct one is Fuse # 7 in the DRIVER kick pannel fuse box.
