Thank you for this well-articulated video. I recently started a doctoral program and found this to be very useful for determining whether I would take a narrative or phenomenology approach to a research project.
Great video- thank you for breaking down these complex topics. Two additional thoughts... phenomenological research can and should discuss contextual factors. While we ultimately focus on the lived experience, we also understand that the possibilities and limits of lived experience is shaped by things like history and sociological factors. Secondly, in regard to narrative inquiry, we are also interested in commonalities between research participants. For example, was there a common "beginning, middle, and end"? Was there a common "turning point"? In this way, narrative research provides readers a road map of lived experience. This can be useful for therapists and policy advocates to discuss how things unfold over time.
