The MV was inspired in the terror movie called "Midsommar", which shares the same story line. The girls take this visitor to a ritual, you can see that he is trying to run away from them. And just like you pointed, Red Velvet is a girl group remarkably known for its dark and mysterious image and vibe. And at the end, in my pov, they are celebrating their femininity, nature, celestial love for each other, cosmos and beauty. Thanks for sharing this amazing reaction
some of their songs are pretty strictly red (poppy, bright, hyper, etc.) or strictly velvet (rnb, smooth, laidback), but some of them are more in the middle like this one!
red velvet is definitely known as a more ‘quirky’ or ‘artsy’ group, thanks to their videos mostly, which is part of why I love them so much! most of their videos have a unique concept/story that could only be pulled off by red velvet. they often have a duality to them with a more intriguing, and sometimes dark/sinister, underlying vibe that complements the immediate bright feelings/sounds.
at the end you mentioned not being familiar with many girl groups. if you need any suggestions for others I would highly suggest Loona (particularly their earlier work)! unfortunately their company was not good and they ended up leaving it semi-recently, joining new companies as soloists (Yves and Chuu) and splinter groups (ARTMS and Loossemble). Loona and Red Velvet are definitely my top 2 girl groups!
"red" versus "velvet" songs boil down to simply being uptempo & poppy versus downtempo sophisticated R&B. "red" songs also have two major subvariants, the summery fun vibe ("Umpa Umpa", "Red Flavor", b-side "Milkshake" -- not to be confused with songs of the same name by other groups), and the deliberate juxtaposition of bright/cheerful sounds with supernatural/horror inspired visuals (this song, "Peek-a-boo", "Birthday", "Chill Kill"). "velvet" songs are rarer as main releases, are more common as b-sides, e.g. ("Automatic", "Bad Boy" -- not to be confused with "Really Bad Boy" [RBB], a red song -- and b-side "Kingdom Come"). "Psycho" is a song of theirs that blends red & velvet styles. "One Of These Nights" is a bit of an outlier, more velvet than anything else, a melancholy straight-up ballad inspired by the Sewol Ferry tragedy. You'll want to react to all of the songs I've named (and more besides), if you haven't already.
OMG, Red Velvet is one of my favorite groups! They are known for their amazing discography, both in title tracks and B-sides. Their vocals are incredible and among the best in K-pop. I recently created a playlist on Spotify with my favorite songs from them, and it has 61 tracks, lol. I highly recommend you spend some time discovering this group; you won’t regret it. Hope everyone is safe there. Greetings from 🇧🇷
Thanks for checking out RV they celebrated their 10 year anniversary this year and I’ve been a fan since middle school its been amazing to watch them grown as artists and woman in general, the red side is more pop, bright and vibrant side while the velvet is rnb dreamy and darker and together it makes red velvet 😂 SM ent is def more vocal centered and the layering is heaven to my ears. If you’re interested in more i think Automatic ( velvet ) and Rookie ( red ) or Chill Kill ( both ). Or another great group is dreamcatcher

Noted, thanks!
At the very end of the video, it says on screen "Inspired by Midsommar."
If you've ever seen the movie, the video makes way more sense.
I have never seen that, but that makes sense!
