"You can't save someone from themselves sir." "You can if you get to them early enough." Holy, shit. I never remembered that line. And for a scene between Ward and Coulson, that's probably some of the best foreshadowing in the whole MCU.
Agents of SHIELD was absolutely fantastic and I wish more people would watch it... I was one of those people who shrugged it off because it wasn't about the superheroes in a world of super heroes and villains. But trust me, it is so so good. Give it a shot, pls 🙏
It was. I'm really hoping they bring some of the characters into the current or next phase even if they say "that was another universe and these are just variants".
My favorite part about "The Twist" is that nobody on the show knew it was coming either. The show-runner was only told by people from Marvel once the show was already in production and a bunch of episodes had already been written. Brett Dalton, the actor who played Ward *wasn't told* he was a double-agent when he was hired, only that he'd "betray the team" at some point. So Dalton played Ward like a boy-scout who'd side with his duty to SHIELD over his loyalty to his teammates. If you ask me, he really stepped up. Instantly he became a character that made my blood run cold every time he was on screen.
I'm glad they didn't. If they had said so, I feel like they might've added in some stuff like odd looks or the way they spoke to each other to hint at it and people might've guessed it. This way, there was no way to know outside of stuff in the script
Season 4 was very much some of the best TV I have ever seen. It took the very idea of a sense of self and flipped it on its head for basically everyone.
life just revolves around me I guess just finished 2 seasons of AOS and you make this video, and now I just started daredevil again and it's announced that daredevil Disney+ show is in development.
I LOVED this show. Some of the best television of the 2010's. The twist in Season 1 was incredible. The "4722 Hours" episode in season 3 where Simmons was stranded on a planet away from the team is one of the best hours of television ever.
I like to add - in my opinion - the scene when Fitz and Simmons tryimg to figur out who is the lmd is one of the best scene is television. it was amazing.
@Noam Ben Moshe Especially LMD May talking to LMD Coulson. She was created before Radcliffe had perfected the process, so when she stood her ground against Coulson, she admitted that she was afraid of dying, that they had never done any of the things that their real counterparts had done. She put everything on the line so the others could escape.
It did stuff way better than the current phase of the MCU. But so many people will ignore it because it doesn't say Marvel Studios or have Feige's name slapped on it
AoS is my heart and soul of the MCU, I binged it last year to finish it from the beginning cuz I feel off of it cuz of personal issues but rewatching it altogether…..awesome doesn’t even scratch the surface of who these characters mean to me or the show itself, it became more than what it was in season 1 and somehow remained consistent for the most part Season 4-7 are the most important seasons for darker toned storytelling and character arcs that will destroy you inside
@@defrostedrobot77 I think it's the difference between intent for weekly broadcast vs intent for binge a full season in one day. I also had the additional difficulty from being in the UK where Channel four decided not to air it consistently, (acting like BBC Two back during TNG's broadcast run, just not because of constant interruptions to show Snooker!), which is why binging was my only option (and I couldnt get access to torre-coughcoughcough) @Ninja Nibba Hands down Skye/Daisy is my favourite Marvel live-action character. and only a kind of small part of that is that we actually get to see a journey of being a seeming nobody, to gaining skills, gaining experience, stumbling, loosing, and then ... Skye over Wanda. Skye found out her mom was a pseudo-immortal who came back from death wrong and tried to kill her. her dad was a doctor, as in, hospital kind of doctor(?) who used that knowledge for basically evil when he lost his wife and daughter, and only turned good again because of said wife trying to kill his daughter,(not just, but it was in there), and she had to watch her dad kill her mom whilst her mom was still trying to drain her life.. and she was also trying to kill her mom in self-defence. All whilst dealing with powers that made an Asgardian FEAR HER, a representative of the alien race who meddled in her ancestors genetics saw her as an abomination to be terminated, and all her hopes and dreams about her birth parents were seemingly coming true to only then be turned to ash in front of her and... she pulled through. She lost her dad basically due to him being given forced amnesia and a new identity, and she had to walk away, go back to being a hero, because she can't do any less. Then has to deal with one of her two best friends disappearing to who-knows-where because of a rock, and the other, coming back from BRAIN DAMAGE destroying himself trying to figure shit out, the guy she kinda liked had noped the offer to join shield but then turned around because he kind of had to so was even less willing to be an agent than she had at the start (because that was initially a 'get on the inside' and later realised she wanted to do good', but he just wanted to be a DOCTOR and couldn't,... and then she got mind controlled by an ancient guy who was basically wearing the face of her ex-crush who turned out to have been a nazi, and then damn-near killed her people of choice and then when her boyfriend died, sacrificing his life to destroy said highly-dangerous ancient guy wearing ward's face, she ran. she gave in to her grief (and not just the grief of losing Lincoln, but my Headcanon is it was the weight of every bad thing in her life)... And whilst running, she was still doing the HERO thing, protecting people and tracking down bad guys... in a half-she's just a good person and half-she's suicidal (ghost rider fight anyone? 'just do it' 'its not me that decides') Wanda... lost vision. a robot, and her two made-up kids. And. well, white-vision is out there, but apparantly she's just like 'nope mah made-up kids'. Wanda, in her grief for losing vision, MIND CONTROLLED AN ENTIRE TOWN... yet, supposedly, 'they'll never know what you sacrificed for them'. Bitch please she's been doing the mind mojo since before she was an avenger, and only switched sides because ultron was going to destroy everything. hell she VOLUNTEERED for the experiments that hydra were doing!
The limitations of this show clearly pushed it to greatness. Season 4 is one of the greatest season of TV I’ve ever seen. Just brilliant storytelling and some of the most clever and well set up plot twists you’ll ever see (especially THAT one in season 5)
@@henryampey2460 spoilers for season 5 episode 14 (and for a lot of the show tbh): It’s established Fitz’ Brian injury from season 2 was reflaring up in season 5 and the gang thinks the anomaly has brought in Fitz’ greatest fear, The Doctor/Evil Fitz from the Framework, but it turns out it was Fitz all along with a split personality that had formed as result of his brain injury
@@ColdBloodedProd Thanks. I knew it probably had something to do with the doctor (GOAT villian). The last third of season 5 beyond the anniversary episode and the finale have always been blurry for me.. probably time for a rewatch.
@@ColdBloodedProd oh yea this wass a really good part of s5. i didnt really enjoy the first half and it's cassiaus story (they also were annoying to look at lol) but every thing they came back was pretty good
Agents of Shield is one of the most underrated, rewarding shows out there. It is the only show I can say with confidence gets better every season, despite all its budget cuts. The character developments are amazing, and you just come to truly love these characters as they progress. Great superhero show.
The character relationships in this show were so good. They kept me coming back for more, even when the storylines were cliche or predictable. It would be nice if marvel would tie it back in to the mcu, in small ways. Things like Gabriel Luna returning as ghost rider, or Skye and Mack showing up in some future SWORD operation. They won't need to explain the whole shield returning or coulson being aliveish, but they would still acknowledge the shows existence. Oh, no. I'm asking for fan service. What have I become?
Not that the storylines usually were cliche or predictable...I always said that AoS is the show where tropes go to die. Having unnecessary drama simply because two characters refuse to talk to each other? Yeah, not in AoS, you can bet that the talk will happen within an episode, two at most. Doing a redeeming arc for the villain? Nope, just hate on the betraying a-hole. Most of the time the show went zig where most shows would have gone for a straight line.
@@swanpride I feel like S5 was kind of guilty of the "no-talking" thing. Was reminded of this recently but like characters were holding on to information that would have significantly changed the outcome of events and certain things were not given the resolution they really should have.
IMO, the show wasn't really predictable or cliché. That's just me tho. I also loved it. It was amazing! 98% of the time. The villain of season 6 was so boring tho! My only real complaint
I loved this show quite a lot when it was airing. I was 11 when it started, it was there for me to stay invested in week-to-week after The Avengers first made me interested in the MCU. It was my first introduction to the idea that 'Everything Is Connected.' Seeing a movie come out and directly affect the plot of a television show I was invested in was amazing. In many ways it's what cemented me being an MCU fan, and why I'll never give up on hoping we'll see these characters return in some form in the future. I need more Skye (and Fitz/Simmons) in my life. Also, if you're just now watching this show for the first time and enjoyed it, prepare for the show to only get better.
Agents of shield was so good at synergy. Im glad we had a moment like that for daredevil universe between hawkeye and spiderman. That was the same week reminded me of golden age agents of shield.
I did think season 1 was a bit slow when I first watched it, but now going back to it, it’s so nostalgic like *spoilers* “remember when “Skye” was just a hacker” “remember when we thought Ward was good?” “Remember when Fitzsimmons weren’t being torn apart every season?!?!?”
Every season really had a distinct feel from each other. It has a lot of peaks and valleys, but a quarter of the episodes each season were always absolutely phenomenal. Looking forward to the rest of them!
Season 4 was absolutely perfect from episode 1 to 22. From the Ghost Rider to the LMD, to the alternate universe where Hydra is in power, to the ultimate finale where it all came together and ended with one of the most mysterious cliff hangers I've ever seen.
Thank you for putting out such a deep analysis of Agents of Shield. Many people have dismissed season one and hated on the show but it is what got me invested in the MCU for the reason you mentioned. It immersed me into the MCU and not just for the superpowers, but for the world itself. It sadly had enormous constraints that the show runners have brought up many times but for how it was limited, the small amount of marketing it delivers good characters, themes and storytelling. I look forward to your next video
This show is my secret love and I'm so glad you're talking about it. It really hurts that it didnt make a bigger splash but you're so right about it making the world a character. The show is probably why I'm so attached to the MCU today. IMO the newer shows aren't amazing. But its probably because it feels like the vividness and scale of the AoS world (by the end of the show especially) is missing to an extent.
What I like the most about it is how much the characters change over time. Especially Fitzsimmons and May. There is something incredible satsifying when May claims the cavalry name for herself eventually, or when Fitzsimmons just science the sh... out of every problem and finally get the happiness they deserve...it is the one "will they/won't they" arc which actually works, because all the hurdles their relationship has to overcome are outside problems and not the usual toxic bs.
"The steps you take don't have to be big. They just need to take you in the right direction." I'll take one season at a time and be a very satisfied customer. Thank you very much!
Agents of Shield my beloved! I remember watching that twist in real time with the release of Winter Soldier and wow was that an amazing time. AOS had been building up the clairvoyant plot line and then I watched Winter Soldier and went fuck fuck fuck thats what that is! And then the next episode happened with Hydra and just wow, such a great experience that can't truly be replicated again
This series is THE reason I got into the MCU... when that twist with Ward happened I was so shook (since i didn't watch Winter Soldier back then) and so devastated... Just like the rest of team.... Everyone says that the first episodes are bad but for me, after watching all of the seasons, are some of my favorites.... I love the humor, the lightness of it and you appreciate it more knowing how these characthers change and develop in later seasons... I just love SHIELD so much and I'm so happy that more people are seeing how good it is....
I’m glad it has trended on Disney plus so much Kind of impressed it’s been doing better than even daredevil Daredevil was on the trending tab like twice Punisher LC JJ IF TD not once Aos like 15 times
When Disney plus did its first test runs in Europe, AoS was the most watched TV show on it, and the second most watched property overall (the top one was naturally Infinity War)
Agents of shield has always done better than the netflix shows for one reason. Netflix shows drop entire seasons. We talk about it for a month and move on. Agents of shield is talked about all year along because it usually runs from September to June if it wasn't one of the later seasons. I think people have just seen daredevil. But people around the world are still watching agents of shield.
@@TheTurbanator123 Certainly not true,AOS hasn’t even get that much exposure and the amount of exposure they’ve given wasn’t that much whereas Daredevil and the other shows have been talked about even before they were moved to Disney plus and DD/Kingpin made their appearances on Hawkeye and Spider-Man’s projects
@@UNKNOWN-qr7uo this isn't my assessment this is just numbers. Im positive majority of people would say daredevil is the better show. But agents of shield was proven to be a more talked about show online.
My stomach dropped seeing this title, so I ran to the comments to spare myself the pain. I am so so glad I did. What a lovely homage to one of my favourite shows ever, my favourite marvel show, and one of the most human and sincere pieces of media out there. (Some slip ups over the years, will not ever watch or forgive the trauma that was 5b: because certain characters went through it and the writer just pretended it never happened). Can’t wait for the next part! Kind of hope you go season by season.
Agents of Shield has been my most fav show ever, and no one can change my mind. It has been absolutely amazing and magneficent. A perfect balance of story telling, humour and valour. I greatly recomend it, u wont regret it!
It starts off as a solid 7 for the first half of the first season with a comfortable case-of-the-week format, then it becomes an 8+ after that with long form stories and new situations and characters every several episodes. This is up there with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul for me
After Erik at New Rockstars shit on the AoS fandom in their last video, thank you for this. I am based, bc this is my comfort show in my down times but this show is amazing. The writing may not have always been great, but the exploration of the team and their traumas truly makes you feel for them.
People are ungrateful to television. Think about how many things smallville got wrong. Or tha hand story line in daredevil. No superhero show is perfect. But each one has the potential to tell a really kick ass story.
Thank you for making this! A lot of AoS fans say they don’t like the first season because it’s a procedural, but that’s precisely why I love it! The hydra twist wouldn’t have worked if they hadn’t lured you into a false sense of security! I’m looking forward to the rest of your videos in this series!! Also, this comment section is amazing! I feel like I could be good friends with anyone in here! 😍
Seriously thought this video was like years old. I’m happy this show is still relevant, at least to us! I feel like I haven’t had enough people to talk about it with, and your videos help with that! I’m excited to see how you feel about the other seasons! :)
Marvel studios will NEVER top agents of shield and daredevil Agents of shield had so many storylines and concepts the Disney plus shows are doing poorly. They didn't set up the dark hold as well now people say Wanda's character makes no sense. They did patriot before us agent. A much better captain america replace storyline. Much better Character. Timetravel gods aliens before loki. They also did wandavision house of M fake reality with the framework storyline. Agents of shield surprised I didn't want it to be the best comic book show. I wanted flash to be better. I wanted runaways to be better. But the fact is Marvel studios will never top the writing of agents of shield and daredevil. Edit again i will Reiterate I did not expect or root for agents of shield to be the best. It may not be as good as like doom patrol. But it towers over the DC CW the other marvel netflix shows with zero budget. Daredevil is the only one that has better consistency among all seasons. Fundamentally what matter most is the writing. This show has the highest rewatch value of any show I've seen. Season 1 is basically terrible the first way around but when you rewatch it after finishing the series. Its like a breath of fresh air and the writing is much tighter when you realize what its teasing. It certainly is a show that is the true marriage between whedon style of TV and marvel lore. I remember being hyped about age of ultron and seeing what joss whedon will do. Turns out jed whedon is the one we should celebrate. jed whedon and maurissa tancharoen are the real life FitzSimmons!
@@Jo-fk1be watching it again all the way through my 3rd time again this is my soul (w/ the defender’s verse) of the mcu everything else is the heart This show has so much
The fundamental difference is the number of hours. According to some random website, Iron Man spent 350 minutes on screen in the movies - which is the most of any character in the movies/Disney + shows. In comparison, Ward spent 336 minutes on screen in Agents of Shield even though he is only in 3 and a bit seasons. Mac, Fitz, May, Simmons, Daisy and Coulson all have more screen time with Coulson and Daisy over 1000 hours You can’t do the same with a character if you give them 6 episodes.
@@jspettifer this is a good reminder to keep expectations low with the new daredevil series If the fundamental difference is number of hours why are supergirl and flash so bad. Legends is pretty decent because like shield it reinvents itself. It's a disservice to the writers to say the amount of time is the reason. So many shows fail under the 22 episode format. Shows like agents of shield and castle do it spectacularly. Flash and arrow seasons are too long. Netflix shows also feel too long around episode 11 or 12. I think every bad episode of shield each season is also around the middle of the season. But its top tier network TV. Them realizing it's better to do multiple arcs within seasons was the defining key factor. Ideally you just write a story and give how ever many episodes it takes. But ABC netflix CW and Disney plus give their shows arbitrary episode counts.
Love AoS! Looking back on it, I consider it one of my favorite shows. The first episode came out two days after my 12th birthday so it was kind of like a late birthday present. As a diehard lifelong MCU fan, I watched the show from the very beginning and stuck with it to the end. I always felt like my family and I were the only ones who watched AoS and I’m surprised how long it lasted. AoS should be required viewing on serialized storytelling, character development, and superhero shows in general. I will never stop praising it.
I never actually finished it, but watched seasons 1-5 as they were being aired with my family and absolutely loved it. I've been slowly rewatching it with the intent to finish it, starting when it was on Netflix, and now on Disney Plus. I'm in season 4 now and it is by FAR my favorite season.
What I likes most about the show… It built upon a base of many losses. Understanding accepting support was strength. Finding family and tenacity of character. …Plus, haha, the beautiful Simmons.
aos is easily one of my favorite shows ever. everyone i talk to about it was like “oh i couldn’t watch past a few episodes,” “it’s not that good,” “it’s boring,” etc. i was even skeptical after watching the first season. but now, OMG it’s just so good. each season just gets better and better. not to mention the chokehold that fitzsimmons had and still has on me.
The Season 1 twist was pretty tough, but also kind of expected. May was the obvious choice, but since Skye was the audience's character, Ward is the most impactful on her.
The Ward twist was amazing and I've only ever seen that kind of thing done once to a main character before. 24 season 1, not gonna say who in case someone gets angry.
It absolutely was but like you said, in hindsight it was kinda expected. Ward was VERY bland before the reveal. A good guy and by the book but other then his budding romance with Sky/Daisy, there was nothing to him. When his true alligence is revealed and he shows just HOW MUCH he was playing a role, it’s shocking and even heartbreaking in a way. Ward is imo one of the best villains in the MCU and is on my Mount Rushmore of top bad guys for the entire universe
So good to finally see you talking about this show!!! This is my favourite marvel thing EVER, its so fricking good in so many ways i cant even describe it. This show has a very special place in my heart and its so good to finally see your take on it and make appreciate it other ways i havent already
Same here. In fact, I might not even have stuck with Marvels for so long without it. In fact, since the show is gone, I feel more and more detached from the MCU.
Not COMPLETELY eradicated. Sidelined, certainly, but given how they just back-doored The Inhumans, which are tangential to AoS, I wouldn’t bet on it. If there’s a good enough reason, they can bring things like this in without having to reinvent the wheel, as it were. If they needed a Talbot, for example. If anything, we’ve seen that anything could be on the table. Especially as more people discover how fun the show actually is.
I think Feige wound up confusing a lot of people where they now think these shows aren’t canon. They are, they’re just not “important” to the overall Infinity Saga. They still exist in the MCU, they’re just in the background.
@@Wyattoons I think or to me at least they are not canon anymore(but is only my opinion, I am pretty sure that the series its not gonna be important to the MCU) the inhumans part that is a big deal and it dosen't really is in the mcu world , the darkhold was in agents of shield but we saw Agatha has the book in Wandavision, we saw ghost rider and I am pretty sure that if we see a ghost rider in the future its not gonna be the same, Mockingbir is not anymore bobbi morse. I can't say that it was always like this, even when I saw it I thought that Coulson could return to the big screen, but in the end it did not happend and the series lose a lot of quality too but still has things that we can consider canon.
@@Wyattoons I think every show so far is canon to the main timeline of the MCU. There really is no reason that they shouldn't be. A lot of the "canonicity" arguments seem to be based around people's subjective perspective on the qualities of the shows discussed about, rather than the actual facts themselves. Best shown with @Richard Castillos's comment above.
@@Wyattoons He never claimes that, though. There have always people who for some reason hated on AoS, and shot against it at every moment. But it will always be canon in the eyes of its fans, and Feige would be crazy to change that.
@@swanpride To specify, I think the confusion comes from when he said this and the Netflix shows wouldn’t connect directly to Infinity War. What he meant was just the plot, it was everyone else who took that to mean they weren’t canon and were somehow in their own little pocket universes or whatever. You’re right, he never claimed that. It was just everyone else taking what he said and twisting his words around.
The flirting is a type of contribution because aos builds up and explains the background lore of the mcu that the movies didn’t have time for Like the fall of shield was touched on in TWS but AOS explains it in further detail and contextualizes it
Agents of shield is very transmedia it does contribute it provides a whole lot of world building for the films that the films have no time to go over It’s more important to the lore of the mcu than people realize A lot of background subtext
AHHHH I’m so glad you’re talking about AOS. this show is so underrated! I genuinely love this show. Season 4 & the back half of 5 are my favorite TV seasons
When I got Covid for the first time in 2021 I binged all 123 episodes. I’m rewatching it with my dad now. So happy to see his reactions to all the twists. We’re 31 episodes in, it’s been only 2.5 weeks :)
This show deserves all the video essays. It's so good and there so much to talk about. Could easily do 2+ video's on each season, especially since most of the seasons are split into two storylines more or less.
Thanks so much for giving this show some love. This was my show. The first show I started watching from the premier and followed up until the very end. It literally took me through all my teenage years and gave me something to look forward to every week. For me it was the perfect show released at a perfect time. Those years where everything feels like it's changing and you feel like your changing it gave me a super cool story full of wonderful people that were changing constantly in a world that was changing constantly too and it made me feel like it would all be all right. I don't pretend like it was the perfect show for everyone, but it certainly was the perfect show for me. Thanks again
AoS is by far my favorite piece of Marvel and one of my favorite shows in general. I have rarely seen a show with such good character development and such a likeable cast. It’s truly amazing, if you are contemplating to watch the show, do it!
Agents of Shield is literally my favorite show. It’s so good. Every thing is set up so well. The show takes the time to make the characters real which makes the payoffs so so so worth it. Something people complain about is like it’s too much filler or some stuff, and they love the climactic moments, but like you cannot have the climactic moments you can’t have the shock of Ward without the creation of his character, you can’t have the fear of skye’s parents without the build up of emotions and stakes if what that means to her, and Coulson, and everyone. The show sets things up so well, and it makes such a fantastic story. Also it does tie back ti the movies a few times. Notably how Coulson’s Shield built the helicarrier that saved people in sokovia. I also don’t give a crap about what Kevin Fiegi says, he’s not the arbiter of universal truth. Agents of Shield is still canon. Not only because it’s a better show so it deserves the place to be canon, but it also doesn’t really mess up already established canon. And I’d love to see Mack or someone make an appearance in a movie to cement it more firmly in the wider view. Because this show is so amazing. It’s so important to me. I’ve seen it six times. Although I’ve only seen the last two seasons twice because I rewatched it a lot before those came out. Agents of Shield is such a good show. Like, it shows the emotional side of things that happen, the fallout of hydra revealing itself. It makes the world real. It makes the people real. It is so incredibly important to me. I love Agents of Shield so so much.
Finally!! No one talks about Shield these days! I completely understand how the first couple of seasons can drive people away, but if more people held on for the ride, they'd earn the reward
THANK YOU for making this. This show will always have a really special place in my heart- even when I feel nothing from the antagonists of the last 3 seasons (odd for a show with historically awesome ones). The real strength of the series is 100% the characters, their interactions, and the ways they change over time. I love them so deeply that I can follow them through basically any batshit plot turns and still discover beautiful moments and gems of episodes. Not to mention they just have BOSS actors. I can’t stop quoting their little lines all these years later, because their delivery is often so good lol Campy, serious, sad, funny, action- we really got it all.
I love Agents of Shield because it's the "meanwhile" of the MCU at a more mundane level. In the earlier movies there were a lot more regular guys with guns, lanyards, and/or clipboards and they always existed in the background. AoS shows the extraordinary ordinary people who are fighting the fight and that's something Feige just would never do. Even now he wouldn't tell this kind of story because people are used to the higher stakes of the Netflix and Disney+ shows.
Still waiting on this "To Be Continued". Season 1 is the set-up season, but Season 2 is where the story starts proper, taking our established characters, and truly start to transform them from who we knew them to be. Season 3 came across as a little underwhelming, feeling more like an extended Season 2 in a lot of ways, yet has one of the best episodes in the entire series in "4,722 Hours". But it is Season 4 where the show fully comes into its own, now abandoning their strict adherence to the MCU movies, and doing their own thing. The three storyline pods this season make it the best season IMO. Season 5 feels like the finale season they intended to tell, but were brought back for two more half seasons. Season 6&7, when viewed as a whole, can work as a dual pod storyline like Season 5, but having just come off of Infinity War, not connecting to the blip left a lot of fans upset about its canonicity. Ignoring that though, they still find a way to tell a few more stories with our characters, and give us the shows best episode in "As I Have Always Been". With how things end, they could totally reincorporate the cast into the main MCU, and I hope one day that someone crosses over into the movies.
The crazy thing is that Agents of SHIELD, according to at least 3 reports I've seen over the past 2 years, has more viewership than all the other Marvel Studios TV shows collectively. That includes the Netux Marvel shows together, and the Marvel Shows alteady on Disney+. All these together har mot found AoS success. The thing I like about Agents of SHIELD is that so much of the MCU originated with Agents of SHIELD. The Kree did not first appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, but AoS introduced the Kree to the MCU. The technology in Captain Marvel that makes the station above earth invisible is from AoS. Fitz invented that device Nuck Fury used to escape the Winter Soldier the first time the 2 of them met. Time travel was ob AoS before it was in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The entire Captain Marvel movie is very, very similar to Skye's story o. AoS, and that inhibitor on Captain Marvel's neck to suppress her powers originated on AoS. There ought to be a video about all the features from. IF NONE.
Not that crazy at all...AoS has always been underrated, because it's numbers were always compared to a Broadcasted show, and it was always close to cancellation - but once you looked at the streaming numbers, you could see that those numbers were double sometimes triple the live viewers. Since Netflix doesn't publish numbers, it is hard to tell how it compared to Daredevil, but considering that AoS was accessible to a way larger audience, it is pretty likely that it is Marvel's most watched show. I know that there are even people who got hooked on the MCU because of AoS instead of the other way around.
I think they are comic buffs really good at adapting and just figured out earlier how. Ok the inhibitor and others might be "inspired". And aostime travel is so far better and thought out, and characters, everything. Why wasnt the show not promoted for if its probably the most watched marvel show, for good reasons.
It makes me so happy you’re talking about this show! I ignored this show for a while because season 1 looked like it was going to be cheesy, then I caught an episode in early season 7 and instantly went back to marathon the whole show before the series finale aired. I couldn’t believe I’d slept on this show for literally 7 years!
OMG! Thank you for talking about this show! I recently rewatched it and once again my utter love for it became to much to handle. I tried looking for videos on RUclips that talk about the brilliance of the show but to no avail. It pains me to hear people claiming Loki or WandaVision is the best show by Marvel when they clearly haven't seen this so I'm so happy that you're talking about it.
AOS was and still is the best Marvel TV series ever created. Its sad that it's not considered cannon but true fans know that its bigger than Marvel itself. It had everything scifi, romance, love, friendship and most importantly "Family". Plus FitzSimmons was the best duo of all time with insane chemistry as well. The only show which even can challenge AOS was The Expanse which was definitely better in Politics & SciFi parts. And AOS did Time travel better than Endgame They[Fitz] even explained Time travel better than hulk did in endgame. Fitz is the true Smartest man on earth easily beating tony & Mr Fantastic. You actually see how he solves each problem and come up with a solution which isn't just some science words jargon unlike tony. I didn't even talked about the episode Elizabeth[Simmons] directed which was pure Brilliance! & best episode of the entire series. & 2nd best was the one entirely dedicated to Elizabeth lol. & CGI was extraordinary for that period, the time constraints and budget involved. TRUE GOAT show in sci fi for sure.
The way I see it, and I agree... If it's the best marvel tv series, then it is the best marvel tv series, whether some suit guy says it is canon(are we talking about MCU?) or not. PS: I was told to watch The Expanse but completely forgot about it's existence, so thank you for reminding me about it lol I heard it's great
@@tarnishedpose Your welcome. Sadly now that the expanse is over go binge the whole thing lol. The Foundation apple tv is also good but not expanse level, they really messed up the pacing but it needs many seasons to feel & become a great show. has tons of potential especially considering the books.
Hey!! If you're ever interested, my brother and I have worked of Agents of Shield content that are mini stories which are "Out of Context". We LOVE the show and wanted to do something fun with it!! 😁
I watched this show as it came out. I was just a kid when it started, and the characters and premise grow with me was just... really cool. It's a good show, and I like it a lot.
I'm glad to see this series getting some love. The first season is mundane (although still good and interesting, as well explained in this video), but holy crap does the show have legs. It really, really goes places. I did a full rewatch after it ended and was blown away all over again by a lot of what it had accomplished.
with more and more of the TV canon being brought into the movies, I picked up AoS just the other week. i loved season 1 so much, and my goodness what a coincedence to get a video essay on it right after i finished it
I'm currently on season 2 and there was an episode that made me wish I saw this masterpiece earlier. Basically it ties itself to Age of ultron and my jaw hit the floor during this reveal.
As a HUGE AOS fan, thank you for making this video. Its great to see someone making an analysis of one of the best shows ever made. People sleep on Shield and have been since it aired. To anyone who's debating on giving the show a chance or you gave up on it after only seeing a couple episodes of S1, I say to give it a shot. It only gets better from here.
The thing I love most about AoS is the character development. Every single member of the team changes over the years and it is just so satisfying to watch. And for me, it doesn't seem disconnected from the main MCU storyline. No, this version of SHIELD doesn't exactly match the feel of a shadowy, men-in-black type of operation, but I would argue that it's because this is Phil Coulson's version of SHIELD. He was a true believer in the original spirit of the organization, and that's why Fury handed control over to him. He knew that Coulson would always act with integrity and wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice himself to protect Earth and its people. (Can you tell he's one of my favorite characters?)
And he's technically an Avenger. Fury said so himself and I love that they didn't shove that in our face all the time but man, was I glad when Hale referred to him as one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. People were pining for an Avenger during the early days of the show, we had one for over 100 episodes. One of my favorite characters ever!
Thanks so much for making a video on Agents of Shield. I feel it is a great world building piece that puts you into more of the "normal person's" view of what is happening. It isn't talked about enough in my opinion. I look forward to your next video.
I still haven't gotten through all of Season 1 all these years later but every time I carry on watching I seriously enjoy it and look forward to when I next watch a couple of episodes. At the right point it's going to become my next show to marathon and I'll watch through to the end.
Thank you for making this video. Agents of Shield is my favorite MCU TV show. I like it better than the Netflix shows and Disney plus shows. Edit: This video has more views than the Doctor Strange 2 review.
AoS was the first TV show that I was actually able to sit down and watch as it came out each week cause it was freshman year of college. It was thrilling to watch a TV show that *felt* like what I had always heard TV shows were supposed to feel like. And then the final really helped to seal in how good of a time it was. Also I am a sucker for the character dynamic of FitzSimmons.
I feel that the strength of the show was showing the 'fight' on an ordinary level, sort of everyday behind the scenes instead of all Iron Man, Hulk etc. Just people being human beings. As they say "behind every great super hero there are dozens on people just doing their jobs" !
"You can't save someone from themselves sir."
"You can if you get to them early enough."
Holy, shit.
It was marketed as the mcu from the civilian’s perspective
It’s not about the heroes and villains it’s about the world they live in
I loved it, started a little slow, but the moment the whole Hydra reveal came after Winter Soldier the show just took off. It's brilliant.
It was. I'm really hoping they bring some of the characters into the current or next phase even if they say "that was another universe and these are just variants".
Yeah I absolutely loved this show
This show deserves to be canon no matter what everyone says it is the best tv show i have ever watched
He is great, i mean gets realky hatanle, but at the same time so entertaining.
SO that smile at the wall of the Fallen.... Brett, you delightfully acting Psychopath!
I'm glad they didn't. If they had said so, I feel like they might've added in some stuff like odd looks or the way they spoke to each other to hint at it and people might've guessed it. This way, there was no way to know outside of stuff in the script
Ahh what an underrated gem this show was. Especially season 4. So glad to see you talking about it:3

4722 hours is such a great memory in my growing up seeing it for the first time. Absolutely incredible
Agent of SHIELD basically did the current phase of MCU years before anyone. But Feige wasn't ready.
It did stuff way better than the current phase of the MCU. But so many people will ignore it because it doesn't say Marvel Studios or have Feige's name slapped on it

AoS is my heart and soul of the MCU, I binged it last year to finish it from the beginning cuz I feel off of it cuz of personal issues but rewatching it altogether…..awesome doesn’t even scratch the surface of who these characters mean to me or the show itself, it became more than what it was in season 1 and somehow remained consistent for the most part
Season 4-7 are the most important seasons for darker toned storytelling and character arcs that will destroy you inside
Fitz-Simmons throughout the entire show are literally torture porn
Really wasn't a big fan of S5-7 cause a lot of the decisions were pretty whack unfortunately
@@defrostedrobot77 I think it's the difference between intent for weekly broadcast vs intent for binge a full season in one day. I also had the additional difficulty from being in the UK where Channel four decided not to air it consistently, (acting like BBC Two back during TNG's broadcast run, just not because of constant interruptions to show Snooker!), which is why binging was my only option (and I couldnt get access to torre-coughcoughcough)
@Ninja Nibba Hands down Skye/Daisy is my favourite Marvel live-action character. and only a kind of small part of that is that we actually get to see a journey of being a seeming nobody, to gaining skills, gaining experience, stumbling, loosing, and then ...
'just do it' 'its not me that decides')
Wanda... lost vision. a robot, and her two made-up kids. And. well, white-vision is out there, but apparantly she's just like 'nope mah made-up kids'.

Agents of Shield is one of the most underrated, rewarding shows out there. It is the only show I can say with confidence gets better every season, despite all its budget cuts. The character developments are amazing, and you just come to truly love these characters as they progress. Great superhero show.
Even though having like no budget season 7 still has some awesome effects
This show basically coined the phrase "the show gets better and better"
At least daisy should have been in thst endfight in endgame as cameo .
@@marocat4749 nah
Yeah we need more of Daisy Johnson
THIS!
I’m glad the fandom has been showing it more appreciation as of late still not enough but I’ll take what I can get

It starts off as a solid 7 for the first half of the first season with a comfortable case-of-the-week format, then it becomes an 8+ after that with long form stories and new situations and characters every several episodes.

Marvel studios will NEVER top agents of shield and daredevil
Agents of shield had so many storylines and concepts the Disney plus shows are doing poorly.
But the fact is
Marvel studios will never top the writing of agents of shield and daredevil.

@@Jo-fk1be watching it again all the way through my 3rd time again this is my soul (w/ the defender’s verse) of the mcu everything else is the heart
This show has so much
The fundamental difference is the number of hours.
According to some random website, Iron Man spent 350 minutes on screen in the movies - which is the most of any character in the movies/Disney + shows.
In comparison, Ward spent 336 minutes on screen in Agents of Shield even though he is only in 3 and a bit seasons. Mac, Fitz, May, Simmons, Daisy and Coulson all have more screen time with Coulson and Daisy over 1000 hours
You can’t do the same with a character if you give them 6 episodes.
@@jspettifer this is a good reminder to keep expectations low with the new daredevil series
If the fundamental difference is number of hours why are supergirl and flash so bad.
Daredevil is overrated. It steadily went downhill from s1-s3
Thank you for doing video on AOS. Loved watching it every week and I hope some characters may appear in MCU :)
Gah that moment with Fitz and Simmons always gets me and oof the journey their characters go on is so amazing. The actors were acting!

I think every show so far is canon to the main timeline of the MCU. There really is no reason that they shouldn't be. What he meant was just the plot, it was everyone else who took that to mean they weren’t canon and were somehow in their own little pocket universes or whatever. You’re right, he never claimed that. It was just everyone else taking what he said and twisting his words around.
Interested to see this video because AOS is highly underrated
This show had no right to be as good as it was. I love it to my very core. I really hope the characters come back in future MCU projects
Nearly 10 years on and AoS continues to be one of the best things in the MCU.
The flirting is a type of contribution because aos builds up and explains the background lore of the mcu that the movies didn’t have time for
Like the fall of shield was touched on in TWS but AOS explains it in further detail and contextualizes it
“A season 2 video should come relatively soon.”
Well, “relatively soon” is relative, so 2 years later I’m not giving up hope!
Agents of shield is very transmedia it does contribute it provides a whole lot of world building for the films that the films have no time to go over
It’s more important to the lore of the mcu than people realize
A lot of background subtext
AHHHH I’m so glad you’re talking about AOS. this show is so underrated! I genuinely love this show. Season 4 & the back half of 5 are my favorite TV seasons
When I got Covid for the first time in 2021 I binged all 123 episodes. I’m rewatching it with my dad now. So happy to see his reactions to all the twists. We’re 31 episodes in, it’s been only 2.5 weeks :)
Hi Leo, please oh please oh please oh PLEASE continue this series! I'll be there to watch every single season's video!!!
That show was crazy, too different every season, heart warming.
I cried so many times watching it.
The Spy's Goodbye scene was something else.
I'm so glad you decided to do this. I haven't seen new agents of shield content in a long time. Looking forward to the next video!
AoS is by far my favorite piece of Marvel and one of my favorite shows in general. I have rarely seen a show with such good character development and such a likeable cast. It’s truly amazing, if you are contemplating to watch the show, do it!
"Here's to us. Who's like us. Damn few." 🥂
I love Agents of Shield so so much.
criminally underrated show
You need to make more of these pls pls pls, the character development in further seasons is at another level and I'd love to see it analyzed by you
Finally!! No one talks about Shield these days! I completely understand how the first couple of seasons can drive people away, but if more people held on for the ride, they'd earn the reward
A lot of people do ur just not looking in the right places
It's been almost 2 years. Please release part 2!!!
The last season is soooo good!!! The end brings it full circle too, with the quantum realm
Exactly it’s the mcu from the civilian’s perspective
Exactly
Still waiting for that S2 video...!!
Oh man, I cannot wait for you exploring this amazing show. It's so good and one of the MOST underrated shows I've ever seen.
Expected a summary of all seasons... Yep... Necermind
My all time favorite show. I miss it so much.
So happy you are covering AoS!
This is has to be my favourite show of all time, I wish more people would give it a chance
I'm glad to see more people getting into this amazing show. I look forward to seeing you do more of these as you watch the following seasons!
Since you brought up CGI, they pulled off a pretty good Ghost Rider.
One of the best live-actions series to ever come out of the MCU
Yessssss!!! I’m so glad to see more videos analyzing Agents of SHIELD! This show built the foundations for so many D+ MCU show ideas and executions!
Hey!! If you're ever interested, my brother and I have worked of Agents of Shield content that are mini stories which are "Out of Context". We LOVE the show and wanted to do something fun with it!! 😁
Just found this channel from this video, really looking forward to part 2
Same here
I watched this show as it came out.
I watched this as if I didn't already watch the show 5 times. It is such an amazing show with perfect story, character development and CGI.
Thank you for finally doing an Agents of Shield video. This was a really enjoyable analysis.
Agents of Shield is still my favourite show, and it´s for those damn good reasons.
Thanks so much for making a video on Agents of Shield. I feel it is a great world building piece that puts you into more of the "normal person's" view of what is happening. It isn't talked about enough in my opinion. I look forward to your next video.
I decided to get into this show in 2024 years after it ended and I feel like the only living guardian to the dead graveyard of AoS fans
Me starting this video having never seen any of your videos before: "You better choose your words carefully boy"
An Implicitly Pretentious series on possibly my favourite superhero show of all time? Yum yum yum yes please sir
I still haven't gotten through all of Season 1 all these years later but every time I carry on watching I seriously enjoy it and look forward to when I next watch a couple of episodes. At the right point it's going to become my next show to marathon and I'll watch through to the end.
Agents of SHIELD is my favorite TV series of all time! Can't wait for the rest of ur thoughts
I jumped into season 1 a couple episodes before the Twist and watched it till the end. What a wild ride it was.
Thank you for making this video. Agents of Shield is my favorite MCU TV show. I like it better than the Netflix shows and Disney plus shows.
Edit: This video has more views than the Doctor Strange 2 review.
I loved agents of shield each season got better and better man
Aos was always marketed as the mcu from the civilian’s perspective
Which is, honestly selling it as mcus buffy would have been more honest, or its a good whedon show.
@@marocat4749 ????
Thank you for putting an analysis of the various (amazing) themes of this show out there on youtube, and one of this quality :)
