Have you ever seen a photo shot on film, but the image goes over those little holes on the side of the film? -Well, they're called the sprockets and Lomography made a camera to make it really easy to shoot photos this way.
This video shows you some examples of photos shot with the Sprocket Rocket to give you some inspiration on how you can shoot it.
Lomography would make a killing if they made a usable panoramic camera similar to the x-pan.
Ha! I have such a S.Rocket, I searched in google: lens replacement ... maybe it is possible if you find the right lens from the donor's camera ... higher school because it would have to be sharp ... maybe it would not cover the entire panorama ... it's a pity that no one it would be a great interesting project!
Mint would do that before Lomography
At a fraction of the price though. I've had an X-Pan but got just as much pleasure shooting with a Zenit Horizon.. Fully manual with a 2.8 swing lens.
Great job on this, I actually reviewed that on my channel about a year ago. I never tried bw though. It's interesting how the first and last color didn't really vignette as much but your bw and second color did vignetted so much more. Hmmm
Hrm. The aperture is a switch-operated plate. If it wasn’t properly seated, if it was off-center, that could probably cause vignetting like that.
The white little dot in the second window counter let you space right the photos without to loose all this film.
Living on the edge, shaking and spraying the duster at the same time :)
great video! Also, big ups to that killer desk setup!
very cool. thanks for helping keep film alive with your channel.
Thanks for saving me the time, effort, & money on that camera. I collect plastic cameras because I love the soft look they give me but that camera isn't worth the cost of the film it would be ruining. For the sake of the company and buyers, I hope you just got a defective one.
You mentioned you developed at a local lab. I usually use the Darkroom in San Clemente and have loved their work. Curious about who you use.
I remember when lomo had very few cameras available. Couple Dianas and the LCA. I knew that once a couple of those showed up at Edison HS around some hipster girls neck they’d be everywhere.
I wonder how many plastic lomo cameras are floating around HB or the greater OC area now?
The Sprocket Rocket is a camera at once so close and so far. There’s nothing quite like it for the price, for five times the price. It’s surprisingly nice in the hand and to shoot with, before looking at results. The lens isn’t very sharp, the corners are so dark and blurry. So much so that it often feels like there isn’t much of a benefit over just shooting even a 28mm lens on an old film SLR.
I already miss Fujifilm Pro 400H
Same!!
@@FilmSupplyClub Crazy, I just bought 5 rolls of 120 yesterday. Talk about here today gone tomorrow!
Pretty cool.👍👍
Thanks for the video and the images.
When I feel the need for panoramic images like those produced by the Sprocket Rocket, I load a roll of 35mm film into a 6x7cm or 6x9cm medium format camera. However, the widest lens I have for my medium format cameras is a 50mm lens. I was tempted to try the Sprocket Rocket with its 30mm wide-angle lens. However, after seeing its image quality, I decided I could not live with the vignetting and distortion in the corners of the images produced with the 30mm lens.
Interesting that you failed to mention the severe light leaks in all but the first and last roll? Maybe you didn't close the back properly, or the film canisters leaked? What do you think?
Any theories on the extreme vignetting? Otherwise, great shots!
I'm wondering that too, probably the lens is designed for standard 35 mm and doesn't have a large enough image circle to cover the wider frame?
@@Murgoh yeah, but it’s designed for pano and many shot were perfect. Dunno.
Oh cool Costa Mesa, didnt know you were local.
It's a good spot to be!
The one thing I would consider a misconception and a beginner mistake is considering the Sprocket Rocket a landscape/cityscape camera due its panorama format. It's not. Only the center of the frame is sharp to a usable extend. Shooting subjects at a distance stretching to the etches of the frame become blurry and distorted to being meaningless.
Instead, get up front and really, REALLY close with the Sprocket Rocket. And if you want to maximize the image, go for f16 (sunny setting) and use a flash, even during day time to fill in. You will also get sharp(er) images of moving subjects that way if they're in range of the flash.
Great video!! What scanner model do you use?
I have a Sardinia 8Ball which seems to have a orange-ish color tint with the lens. Wondering if the Sprocket Rocket has the same?
Decent walkthrough review!
Wish that you had shot more than cars. Okay, the beach…
Think about using lint-less gloves when handling negs. Try not to spritz canned air that close to negs..
Wow really love your content this is awesome . What is your preferred editing software you use for videomaking , I'd love to have a conversation and maybe even collaborate on different methods in telling stories through video !
Thanks so much. Adobe Premiere Pro for editing.
The white horizontal frame lines you add around each photo kinds of ruins the whole sprocket concept. Just some feedback.
A pity the lens's image circle does not even cover the film frame--perhaps some like this effect, but to me it is just dumb engineering, totally needless. It would have cost no more to make it so this does not happen.
Why are they soooo dark at the sides?
Image circle from the lens is too small
I wish I was able to hear you better over the music.
Agreed, I love your work and your videos....but turn down the volume on the looping guitar riffs, can't hear what you're saying

It's a hard pass for me
Dude not cool to harras the wildlife for photo ops- Karma will come back around and the shorebirds will poop on your head....
