Loooooooooooooooove it all-- cocktail garden❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ with some spinach thrown in!!! You are such a joy🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The sweater and color you’re wearing are fantastic! I lived in Baltimore for 12 years and spring was also wonderful there. Was fortunate to have a terrace and containers of basil, Italian parsley and rosemary did particularly well. Main tip: water, water, water especially in heat but things dry out with the wind. Give your plants a drink in the morning before it gets too hot and when you get home in the evening. Enjoy!
That’s so thoughtful of you Nancy, Thanks for your positive review,How are you and how’s the weather over there?
Your Daily Pullover looks amazing. Love the color! 💚
How exciting to have your garden going! Your Daily Pullover is STUNNING. LOVE your finished two-color Ranunculus. The Outline Raglan by Jessie Maed Designs might work with the linen/silk yarn - it's a DK pattern with long sleeves and 20sts/4inches. Love your vibe and how you talk through your projects! Take care Phylicia~Stephanie
🤭You read my mind!
Your cocktail 🍸 garden sounds fun! Beautiful makes as always!
Phylicia; my two cents about your tomatoes. Once a week give them a long soak of water. A tip my sister told me about to prevent blossom end rot; one aspirin and one tums tablet in a gallon of water. Start giving this mixture throughout the growing season. Compost. I side dress my tomatoes about four times during the growing season. Banana peels-tom's love them. Make a small divit with your trowel and bury the peel about an inch below the soil.
Your knitting is beautiful!
Thanks for the tips, Sue!
Definitely looking forward to vlog! I've never been so I live vicariously through vloggers lol
Kale and spinach will grow through April and maybe part of May. When the temps begin to rise it will fade. But the cool part is that you can replant or pick up more plants in late fall and raise it again. I’ve been raising fresh greens for many years.
As far as your linen/silk yarn, which is beautiful, what about a fade with another light color. Maybe just a shade lighter or darker. Or a sweater with a stripe that knits up something like like Joji Locatelli’s Susurrus or Rituals. You would need another skein or two of yarn but the left over of the other could be knitted up into a shawl. -Love your podcast. …Pam
I finally got the time to watch this video. I am in my garden, and spring has finally arrived over here! If you like to eat green leaves I can recommend Tetragonia (a.k.a. New-Zealand spinach or Everlasting spinach) I grow this effortlessly throughout the summer until night frost starts. It taste like spinach, but even though it isn't, you can cook/use it exactly the same way. This year I am kind of neglecting my garden, but mint, strawberries and Tetragonia will always work out. Chard is very beautiful and also very easy to grow (and more hardy than spinach, in my opinion, because it doesn't welt so easily) And I am sure the stems would look lovely in cocktails! Cheers! 🍸💃Nanja
Your sweater fits you beautifully!! Great color.
Love your Daily Pullover! It is on my shortlist for makes.
A group of us DMVers are meeting at the Frederick Fiber Fest by the food trucks at 1100 AM. I will be wandering around earlier. You are welcome!! Hope to see you there 😊
Hello - first time watching you! Re the container gardening - I would suggest looking up 'Wicking Beds' on RUclips as this will be the foundations for supporting the watering of your plants. Whilst I don't have these in my containers they are super helpful I believe. Also filling your containers half with recycled glass and plastic rather than soil - I did this and it saved on the cost of soil and adds ventilation for the plants. Anyway Good Luck!
Thank you for nice company and interesting thoughts on your knitting🤗
You look great in that color! I wish that I could wear that color! Great podcast! Beautiful knits!
Thanks, Catherine!
I apologize in advance for the multiple comments 🤣. Yes, I totally agree about the weather here. At least we have had a little bit of a spring except for yesterday and today which is already too hot for me. It seems most seasons we go straight from winter to summer.
I haven't even watched yet, but I am so happy to see a new episode.
I love the Magpie Bougie Beaver colorway and a good Ravelry pattern search! If you're still looking for suggestions here are my top three: Poppy Tee by PetiteKnit, Sintara by Audrey Borregeo, or Petal Party Crop by Samanta Guerin. They're all short sleeved, but look like they could be easily modified to 3/4 or longer. Happy Pattern Searching!
Hi Phylicia. I’m so excited to see another podcast! I didn’t have time to watch more than your intro this morning, but can’t wait to get back to it and hear more about your projects and balcony garden! Thank you so much! ❤
That’s so thoughtful of you Julianne, Thanks for your positive review,How are you and how’s the weather over there?
Loved your episode today. I really like all your projects, yarns and colours
My vote for your bourgie yarn is either the Pismo Beach Pullover by Amanda Scheuzger, or one of Sari Nordlund's lace cardigans. A cardigan would be nice because you get coverage but can open it for breeziness. Please show as much as you can of Maryland Sheep & Wool. I'd love to go someday, and until then, seeing it here will be great.
That’s so thoughtful of you, Thanks for your positive review,How are you and how’s the weather over there?
I have been sitting here, since last summer, wondering what to do with my three skeins of Spicy Beaver 🦫 - Equinox Sport. While you were describing what you wanted to do with yours, I was wondering if adding one more skein, in a stripe, would help with yardage. Maybe something like a summer-Missoni Accomplished. Or the Sommerknus is lovely too. I’d be happy to knit-a-long with you 😊. Love your podcast.
Great ideas! I want to avoid buying another skein but love those patterns
I love your beautiful sweater! It looks stunning in you. Thanks for the tip on keeping accurate row count with a counter when using charts for color work. I enjoyed this podcast. Have a great day.
I knit and live in NOVA. So nice to see someone local !
Hi Neighbor!
Always love your videos! Sweater ideas: Super Simple Summer Sweater, Boxy,; from Espace Tricot: Night Blooms, Mousseux ?
Great ideas!
the plumpy shawl was my first ever shawl i knit and i loooooooove it. i made the 4 color version but in sport weight because i couldn’t find the colors i wanted all in dk weight. i really want to make another one of andreas brioche shawls now seeing you knit up yours
Hi! an Idea for your summer Top, can be the Tip Top Tank by Emily Bolduan. You need an Sport yarn (I am planning to knit it with fingering, Coats yarn cotton-merino)
Another Idea is the Pretty in Pleats by Andrea Yetman, is a top kind of tunic. Or the Circular Yoke summer Shirt by Purl Soho.
I like very much the yarn and I am looking forward to see what it becomes.
Thanks for the suggestions, Alexandra!
Mint and strawberries take over. Both should be containerized. They will come back fuller and more dense each year.
Heyyy! Chartreuse is a great color on you! ❤
Thank you!
I loved your color-work tips! I also knit continental, but I’ve been working color-work with one color in each hand, which can get a little tricky, so I’d like to give your method a try. I just purchased the knus light pattern from Elsebeth Judith, which is a fingering weight version of the sommerknus; planning to knit it in linen yarn. It would be lovely in your yarn. It can be made with long or short sleeves, and a plain or patterned body. I went to Maryland Sheep and Wool last year and froze! I can’t make it this year, so I’ll look forward to your take on it!😊
Love your pattern suggestion.
Hello, great episode. For the Bougie Beaver (I LOVE that color) what about the Utopia sweater (by Jansá) that is about to come out in Laine 17? I love the mix of lace front, relaxed fit and plain raglan sleeves. I think it could be dressed up or down and would look beautiful in that color.
For garden thoughts (I lived in D.C. for 6 years) Spinach in the summer is tough. You could definitely plant it in February or early march or late September. Over the summer try Malabar Spinach or New Zealand spinach. I've done the Malabar - it vines - and there is one with pretty red stems that might be cool.
That’s so thoughtful of you Melissa , Thanks for your positive review,How are you and how’s the weather over there?
Spontaneously I would propose the Aalto which is some kind of a Poncho and /or the lace and fade boxy by joji locatelli, for which you might need another skein or 2. I have the Aalto on my needles at the moment and probably will cast on the joji pattern pretty soon. Love your podcast and your style.
These are great ideas, Sabine!
Enjoy your balcony garden! The slow release fertiliser should be enough for the plants you mentioned. The only one that may enjoy some additional liquid feed later on in the summer would probably be the tomatoes. The herbs generally don’t like too much food. 🌱
Thank you for the advice! I’m the most nervous about the fertilizer
Yay! Finally got to watch the whole podcast. 😊I’m currently knitting the Love Note and also did not love the neckline so I basically just did what I have done for the ranunculus. I love the magpie fiber bougie color, on screen it looks like a peachy/sandy color. When you said beachy I thought of a tone on tone wide stripe tee. I know not everyone loves to wear stripes but it sure would look fresh and summery. Thanks for the lovely podcast! ❤
That’s a great idea! I’m trying to avoid purchasing more yarn but that sounds gorgeous!
Hi Phylicia! I also bought some of that Equinox yarn, I believe after hearing you talk about it on your podcast. I'm looking at another Jacqueline Cieslak pattern for it: the Deren tee from the Embody collection. It could be a good option for you: all the variations are in sport weight and there's so many options for pullover/cardigan/vest, length, sleeves, etc. Looking forward to seeing what you do.
That’s a great suggestion!
I am also a MPF Society member. Just a word of warning about the Swanky DK: I did a test knit-it was a lovely sweater and I did swatch it, but the sweater grew 3 inches in length after blocking. I think that is because of the cashmere. Next time I will measure before and after swatching.
I love your Daily Pullover. In watching you explain about using charts, I wondered if you had tried Knit Companion. I find it great because I can enlarge the chart on my iPad and keep track of what row I’m on. It’s a free app.
I’ve never tried knit companion because I don’t have an iPad and I enjoy having paper charts/patterns. I’ve heard great things about it though!
For the linen yarn, what about the dappled lace raglan by James Watts? I love your podcast and this one was awesome!
That’s a great suggestion, Mena!
Your ranunculus is stunning!! I am interested in eventually making one. I also have my eye on a few summerweight tops like the Rock it tee and the Birdwatcher.
I also just made a DRK Everyday cowl in the Magpie colorway you love. It’s a great color!
Absolutely LOVE the color you are wearing as well as the Ranunculus! Suggestion for your sport weight yarn is the Yume by Isabel Kraemer. Love that you’re gardening! 😊 🧶
Thanks, Ann…that’s a gorgeous pattern!
Look at the Truly Myrtle Ravelry pages (Libby Jonson). She has a number of summer tops (eg Urchin). Is a great knit and Libby writes very clear patterns. A New Zealand designer.
Thanks for sharing, Carolyn!
I think you’re right that kale and spinach won’t make it through the summer but that’s pretty normal in places with hot summers! Definitely grow as long as you can and then you can plant more when the summer starts to cool off. I can only grow greens in the spring/fall where I am.
Thanks for the tips! I’m going to enjoy the greens while I can and have plans for a fall garden too
maybe the very v neck raglan for that beautiful sport weight! the gauge is pretty loose so you might be able to eke it out
Thanks for the suggestion, Jasmyne!
❤❤
I just started the Corran Cardigan by Rebecca Clow (Creabea). It’s a lace pattern, not much yarn needed. I think it might be an option for your silk/linen yarn.
That’s a great idea, Liz!
I've been looking at the Cercis by Marie Amelie Designs. It has lace sleeves and side panels which I think would be really nice in the summer and would look really pretty in that yarn.
Thanks for the idea, Kate!
So appreciate you talking through how to move stitches around on a raglan! I’ve been meaning to experiment with this. Do you have any tips/suggestions on calculating how many to move?
I didn’t use a precise calculation…I tried to approximate the stitches per inch and then moved that many stitches to the front from both sides of the the arm stitches. It wasn’t the best method but it got me pretty decent results
@@Phylena thanks! I’ll try it on my next. I imagine it’s a trial and error.
Have you seen the Fosette? By knittymcpurly. There's a knit along.
I haven’t seen that pattern but I’ll def look into it
