I agree, I just wish I didn't live so far from everybody! All the cool places are road trips for me, LOL.

Any trip to Snake Rd is a good trip, imo. Great opening shot from the overlook. Been a few years for us, too. Think 2023 we'll need to go there again, great place! Cool you ran into Hiking with Shawn.

That was great to see you back there . Awesome views and seeing the armadillos was great. Nice snake sightings too. Great to see the cottonmouth. I'm glad you had some good company ❤️ that was awesome about the note on your car.

We do like in that area, I really need to learn more about backpacking options down there. Sad that I couldn't make it to the RRG meetup, but I gave Catfish the choice, and this is where his interest lies!

Cool video. I am fortunate to live close enough to LaRue that I can go anytime my schedule allows. Fall is definitely better than Spring at LaRue, but I have had some great days in the Spring as well. I have had 100 Snake days in the fall, though abot 70% of that count will be Cottonmouths. I have been fortunate enough to meet Shawn and Michelle on several occasions.

We did have prior knowledge that Shawn and his crew would be out there sometime that weekend, we were just lucky enough to be there at that time.

Sorry you couldn’t make it to the meetup but I totally understand. Glad you got to meet Shawn, saw some snakes, and quality time together. Who knew Armadillos were that far north?

Supposedly, there are armadillos in Indiana as well. The DNR has confirmed it, but to my knowledge, only through roadkill. They've found them up to Terre Haute, and even Indiana Dunes says they've found armadillo roadkill up there. Yeah, I fully intended to be at the RRG meetup, we honestly thought Kaden's fall break was a week later, otherwise I would have been there. I'll be at the Hoosier meetup!

Exactly! At least here, I'm actively looking for them and expecting them. On a typical hike, they take me by surprise and that's a little scary, LOL.

Well, I've definitely added those places to my list! How's school going, Catfish?

Catfish has been very busy between classes, homework, and a couple of clubs (Science Club and Wildlife Society.) There's a lot of great places in southern Illinois!

Missed you guys by a few days. Just made my first trip out there on Wednesday (10/12). Found 33 snakes total. I'm tentatively planning to make one more trip out there this year on 10/25 and am really looking forward to going for the spring migration.

Hi Max! We love seeing the snakes, just because they're something we don't see very often (and we're actually prepared for them when visiting here!) Inspiration Point is awesome, makes you forget you're in Illinois.

I stopped a few times this month. Always a good time in the Shawnee. Seems this year 2022 is the year of the armadillo.🤣

There are too many snake species for me to keep track of, LOL! I would have misidentified this one, had other herpers not been there. I had to look it up later to learn the differences.
