    Long ago a friend had a Business Coupe of similar vintage; his had a beautiful molded glass trunk-light which depicted the ship "Mayflower", and it was the brake-light- the lights on the fenders were only taillights. The chrome strip between the hood halves was gone, the owners club folks said that commonly rusted away because water pooled in the piece under it. Unobtainium back then, a couple hard-core guys had hand-made their own replacement from stainless steel. I rode in it some, once he drifted it turning onto a side-street at about 10 MPH with the skinny tires squalling, so crazy to have that happen at so slow a speed you had to laugh. It also had an 'armored' sleeve over the coil wire all the way back to the key switch to foil hot-wiring; the original coil/wire/switch was made as one unit.
    Inside his also had woodgrain 'trim' around the top of the doors. It was actually a wood-colored paint sprayed directly on the metal door, and the factory had people who hand-painted the grain lines with ink and pinstriping brushes which was then lacquered over. Hanging your elbow out the window as you drove would wear through it and very few originals were left, each car being unique because of the handwork. It was replicatable, but those who had done it said it was a tedious demanding project requiring expert pinstriping skills which is why most people just painted it a solid color instead. Hard to imagine a similar approach in today's world where you have artists doing production work, especially on your cheapest model.

    Really starting to appreciate these 1930's thru 1940's cars. Enjoyed seeing this one. So much design and artistic effort into the look of these cars.

    Got the job done in the day I remember my grandparents talking about riding around in the winter time. I would not change the wing windows either. Miss them dearly, I think that 72 was the last year on some and 69/70 for others.

    This would be the ultimate car to have if I had the facility to slowly get it back to the closest I could to original condition. It would be a great survivor car in top condition mechanically.

    The big trunk was also great for bootleggers to put their booze for illegal liquor runs.

    I would not be surprised about the mileage and running. If it was over hauled it would last for a really long time.

    He isn't around to ask anymore about it but I think it was model specific with the hood design.

    That motor would last a good long while, it it one of the really smooth running Chrysler motors that you could hardly tell was running when warmed up and idling?

    I know how that is as far as having way to many projects me and my brother had to thin the heard not to long ago. It cost to much and to have the room to keep all them in running condition because where we live we can't have broken down car's laying around like a junk yard the town don't like abandon looking car's in front or in back of home's.

    That car is sweet it would have to be changed over to a restomod for me to enjoy it, new breaks new engine power steering power break set up, maybe chop top? Other than that I would leave as is as far as the body. If you put shinny paint you won't enjoy driving it.

    What does floating Power means?

    • @ObsoleteAutomotive
      @ObsoleteAutomotive  Месяц назад

      @@fernandomendes9406 Plymouth advertised the quietness and smoothness of their powertrains. Essentially the motor and transmission are mounted to the frame using rubber isolators so there’s no direct metal to metal connection. Reduces vibrations and noise felt in the cabin of the car.
